The master chefs at work on a grill similar to the mongolian grill / Teppanyaki concept

Fire and Ice Grill and Bar Restaurant was one of the restaurants we visited during our recent trip to Lake Tahoe. Better known and FiRE + iCE Grill + Bar, this exciting restaurant offers a brand new concept to diners – a cross between create-your-own-meal buffet and Teppanyaki “live” cooking! Thanks to the great folks at Marriott, we were hosted to an amazing meal at Fire and Ice Gril and Bar!

About Fire and Ice Grill and Bar Restaurant at Lake Tahoe

There are essentially 2 parts to your dining experience at FiRE + iCE (It sure was an unique dining experience!).

First, you’ll go pick up your favourite ingredients from the various stations…

Step 6: Choose your sauces and let the magic begin!

Before we tried our hand at the ingredients and sauces, we wondered to ourselves, how would we know what sauces and ingredients would go well with each other? No worries about that! Recommendations such as Mango Garlic Pork (Latin), BBQ Pork Ribs (American), Sweet Chile Sizzle (Asian) and Fra Diavolo (Italian) are provided in the menu, complete with the list of ingredients and sauces that the chefs will use to create those dishes. There’s even recommendations of alcoholic beverages that pairs with those dishes!

But if you’re adventurous like us, just choose your favourite ingredients and trust the chefs to work their magic. We were thoroughly surprised with what we were about to experience next…

Once you’ve handed over your ingredients to the chefs, be prepared to be amazed by their culinary prowess in action!

While your food is being cooked, you’ll find your chef wielding his tools in the air and constantly throwing emptied sauce dishes accurately into the collection trays. They really never miss AT ALL! They have so many tricks up their sleeves such as tossing the spatula around the back as well as tossing and turning the ingredients at lightning speeds!

But what really surprised us was when our chef saw that we had chosen 2 types of sauces in our dish, he took the initiative to mix the sauce. How? By placing the dish on his spatula and tossing it repeatedly in the air! No sauce was spilled and the sauce became evenly mixed! You’ve got to see it to believe it! :O

Having tried so many dishes around the world, we were actually surprised by the texture that the teppanyaki adds to the food. For instance, the pasta was slightly charred and smothered with the alfredo sauce. Definitely not tried that version of seafood alfredo pasta before and was pleasantly surprised! In addition, the seafood was fresh! Sweet succulent prawns and scallops. Stomach’s growling even as we’re typing this post!

The meats on the other hand was tender and well marinated. Looooooved the pulled pork and pork ribs. The chefs knew how to control the timing for the meats as they literally fell off the bones as we tucked into the pork ribs. Awesome!
