2 Acres Cafe was where we headed to in hopes of enjoying some durians in Penang during the off-season. As 2 Acres Cafe is located within a durian plantation at Lot 313, Jalan Teluk Bahang, Kampung Sungai Pinang, 11000 Balik Pulau, Pulau Pinang, Malaysia, we decided to drop by and try out their offerings. Glad to have visited as we discovered great drinks, durian and even instagrammable spots right here at 2 Acres Cafe!
About 2 Acres Cafe Penang
Located within a durian plantation means that 2 Acres is surrounded by lush greenery. Right in the centre of this greenery is the main cafe premise that uses a couple of shipping containers stacked together to create a few structures such as a lookout platform, mini tree top walk as well as a area for swings hanging from the trees…
Prior to entering cafe, you can place your orders at the counter. The menu of 2 Acres Cafe is:
You can choose to sit either indoors or outdoors. However, at plantations, we are quite susceptible to mosquito bites. Hence, we decided to go with indoor sitting this time…
What We Had at 2 Acres Cafe Penang
This time, we ordered Hojicha Berries (RM15) and White Coffee with Extra Shot (RM14) at 2 Acres Cafe. Both drinks were pretty good. The coffee came with a latte art and had a nice aromatic bitter afternote, though a little acidic. On the other hand, the staff asked us if we had Hojicha before when we ordered the Hojicha Berries. This is because some customers had complained about its taste before. But for us, the Hojicha Berries was just how it should taste – light hojicha with a not-too-sweet berries smoothie. Another excellent beverage at 2 Acres Cafe.
Then, came the suggestion of the year from Kate.
She asked whether we should try out the durian at 2 Acres Cafe. There was afterall a small little stall set up to sell fruits direct from the plantation. We saw some durians and thought it would an excellent opportunity to try out durian fresh from the plantation…
As it was the off-season, we had to contend with relatively expensive durians. Uncle quoted us RM55/kg and we thought it was quite expensive but we persevered and were handsomely rewarded…
As you can see from the colours, it was an excellent musang king direct from the plantation. In fact, the uncle opened the first one and thought that it was not good enough and placed it aside before opening the second and last durian for us. Turns out it was an excellent musang king durian. The outer layer is a bright yellow and when touched, turns wrinkly – a signature of musang king. The flesh itself was rich and creamy with a slight bitterness on taste. There was also an unique fragrance that we don’t usually taste with musang king in Singapore. The seeds were really small which meant that there was lots of rich, creamy flesh which we enjoyed while overlooking the pond within the premise of 2 Acres Cafe Penang. Yes, we found out from the uncle that we could enjoy the durian indoors at the second level of 2 Acres Cafe (but not at the first level).
After reluctantly finishing our durian (and licking every last morsel off of our fingers), we headed outdoors to enjoy a short walk around its premise. We walked down the spiral stairs and enjoyed some time on the swings before strolling around the pond.

After our visit, uncle told us to return again in June where the prices would be much lower when durians are in season. If the prices are much lower with better quality durians in-season, we’d definitely be planning for a visit in the future. If you have been to 2 Acres Cafe and tried out the durians in-season, let us know more in the comments section below.
