If you’re wondering why a 48 hours of travel in Bangkok would have a “day 3”, it is because we started the trip at 3pm on a Friday and will end at 3pm on a Sunday. This post will cover the Thai Food that we ate on day 3 as well as the shopping done in and around Big C Supercenter before we flew back from Bangkok to Singapore.

Thai Food for Breakfast in Bangkok – Sunday: 9am to 10am
We started the day by checking out the Cabana and Water Features at level 9 of Centara Watergate Pavilion Hotel Bangkok. It is a reminder to our readers that there is water feature and not a swimming pool at Centara Watergate Bangkok. Nonetheless, at $65SGD a night, it is conveniently located (walking distance to Platinum Mall and MRT station) and is a pretty well-kept and clean hotel.
This morning, we started our day at Daorueang – a local dining place at Pratunam Pier, right next to the Chaloem Lok Bridge.
To be honest, we’re not sure if the name is really “Daorueang” but if you see the signboard above indicating that it sells items such as duck, chicken and crispy pork noodles, you’re at the right place. This time, we had the braised duck rice as well as the crispy pork noodles…
For street food standards, both were actually pretty good. Reminded us of local hawker food in Singapore. Also, within the coffeeshop, the premise is actually quite well-maintained. As for the drinks, we went with ice coffee which one of our friends remarked – “may get diabetes” – rather sweet but if you treat it as a dessert, it is still very sweet 😅
Soon, it was time to do some shopping…
Atas Shopping Malls of Bangkok – Sunday: 10am to 12pm
If you think that Bangkok only has outlet fashion (Platinum Mall) and grocery shopping (Big C Supercenter), think again. In fact, Bangkok has some high-end shopping malls such as Siam Paragon and CentralWorld where you can get your fix of shopping at brand names such as BVLGARI, Bottega Veneta, Chanel, Gucci, Hermes and more. Best of all, there’s a link bridge that connects all of these shopping malls, ensuring that even inclement weather does not affect the shopping experience here.
Of course, we didn’t shop shop per se here. After trying out a scent and finding out that it costs in excess of $600SGD a bottle, we decided that Big C was where we should head to next to conclude our otherwise “empty-handed” shopping experience…

Big C Supercenter – Sunday: 12pm to 1pm
As with most hypermarkets, Big C Supercenter has a day-to-day grocery section on its first floor and a second level that sells everything from clothes to shoes and household items. During our visit, we saw many other tourists heading our with boxes of noodles and tidbits. Though we did not go to those extremes, we did manage to buy some snacks (dried bananas, chips, biscuits), noodles (MAMA!) and medicated oil. All of which, though sold in Singapore, are at about 30% discount as compared to prices back home. We also bought a pair of shoes that costs less than $10SGD. Now we understand what’s the fuss about shopping at Big C Supercenter before heading home – you can really snag good deals here!
Big C Supercenter – Sunday: 1pm to 2pm
We wanted to round off our trip with another local food – Phad Thai. But along the way, we didn’t find any and had to settle at this Indian-Thai Restaurant next to Ratchaprarop Station…
Our verdict: DO NOT EAT HERE!
Although the food was edible and that the restaurant was clean, it did not have the authentic Phad Thai taste of “wok-fried” goodness. Instead, it was a little too moist and heavy on the tomato ketchup. Hence, with a rather dismal last meal, we headed back to Bangkok International Airport via the Airport Rail Link.

Back at the airport, we were thankful to have access to Oman Air First/Business Class Lounge and Miracle Lounge before eventually boarding our Scoot Flight back home…
