Tom During our last visit to Florida, we managed to squeeze in a morning’s visit to Lauderdale by the Sea and at the same time, visit the local Aruba Beach Cafe…
Lauderdale-by-the-sea is one of the many small cities along the east coast of Florida. By the beach, there’s a pier (Anglin’s Fishing Pier) that costs $2 to access. From the pier, you’ll be able to see the entire stretch of the beach and many people fishing as well.
After our walk along the pier, we headed back a couple of streets to do some shopping. As with most beach towns, there’ll be shops selling souvenirs, beach towels, sunblock and the like. We bought a beach towel with a cartoon-ish map of Florida for $10 as we thought that some of the hotels for the rest of our trip would not include towels (which turned out to be wrong eventually. This meant that we lugged a towel for the rest of our trip for nothing. -_-) Since we still had a little bit of time, we decided to check out the Aruba Beach Cafe which opens at 11am.
We ordered the Piled High Roast Beef ($14.99) as well as the Blue Sky cocktail to share. We were glad that we only ordered 1 sandwich to share because the Piled High Roast Beef really does pile the roast beef high. Delicious and filling, definitely good for 2 to share.
The great part about Aruba Beach Cafe is that it is literally right next to the beach. If you want to enjoy views of the beach at Lauderdale-by-the-sea but not get too sandy, Aruba Beach Cafe would be the perfect place for you.

After brunch, we headed back to the airport to return our rental car and we barely made it in time for the return at 1pm. However, given the 4 hours delay by Spirit Airlines to Jamaica, we still had loads of time at the Fort Lauderdale airport.
