If you’re thinking about what to eat in Johor Bahru or where to eat in JB, make a day trip to City Square JB. From there, you’ll be just a short walk away from all the famous JB food and JB Cafes along Jalan Wong Ah Fook and Jalan Dhoby/Jalan Tan Hiok Nee/Jalan Trus area. Johor Bahru Food along Jalan Wong Ah Fook
After exiting from JB City Square, take a left on Jalan Wong Ah Fook and you’ll be able to find a popular restaurant with both locals and Singaporeans alike – Johor Bahru Kam Long Fish Head Curry! 阿福街金龙咖喱鱼头!
Kam Long Fish Head Curry Johor Bahru
If you’re in Johor Bahru, Kam Long Fish Head Curry would probably be one of your foodie pit stops. Priced at only RM24 for a small fish head curry (good for 2 to share), it offers excellent value. Moreover, with the constant flow of customers (just look at the rate the pots of fish head curries are dished out), the freshness of the fish is ensured!
Address: 74, Jalan Wong Ah Fook, Bandar Johor Bahru, 80000 Johor Bahru, Johor, Malaysia
Opening Hours: 8am to 4pm
Hua Mui (華美) Restoran Hainanese Chicken Chop
Priced at RM15.90, the Hainanese Chicken Chop at Hua Mui Restoran was tender and moist on the insider with a slight buttery twist to the batter. Definitely a must-try while you’re in the vicinity. However, give the Hua Mui noodles a miss as it was simply too yeasty for us. At RM7.90, there were only a few slices of chicken and vegetables. Not worth the price or calories.
Address: 131, Jalan Trus, Bandar Johor Bahru, 80000 Johor Bahru, Johor, Malaysia
Opening Hours: 8:30am to 6pm (Closed on Sundays)
Johor Bahru Cafes along Jalan Trus/Dhoby/Tan Hiok Nee
There’s a little cafe precinct in Johor Bahru that has sprung up in recent months. Take a walk along Jalan Trus, Jalan Dhoby and Jalan Tan Hiok Nee to check out some of the trendiest cafes in JB!
Flowers in the Window Johor Bahru
When we arrived at 9am, Flowers in the Window was still not yet opened. However, we returned at 10am (opening time of Flowers in the Window JB) and were glad that we did. With its old school (and trendy) decor, we totally understand why millennials would return and hang out with friends. Oh, the wifi password was “talktoyourfriends”. That’s what we should all strive to do right? 😉
Address: 9, Jalan Dhoby, Bandar Johor Bahru, 80000 Johor Bahru, Johor, Malaysia
Opening Hours: 10am to 8pm (Closed on Tuesdays)
Ehhe Art Cafe (Kafe Culture Street) Johor Bahru
Seeing the crowd inside Kafe Culture Street, we decided to have some local breakfasts of kaya toast set and peanut butter with almond toast (an instagram worthy treat). After the meal, we also headed upstairs for a tour of the free art exhibits. Though a little warm upstairs, we were glad we went upstairs for the artworks which were interesting albeit a little quirky…
Address: 1, Jalan Trus, Bandar Johor Bahru, 80000 Johor Bahru, Johor, Malaysia
Opening Hours: 7am to 5pm
