Biseryu is a casual Japanese restaurant that we found on Eatigo during our staycation at Orchard Hotel. We scrolled through Biseryu’s menu and found a couple of dishes that we’d like to try, including wagyu hamburg as well as wagyu katsu rice set…
About Biseryu Japanese Restaurant
Biseryu is a casual Japanese restaurant. No frills. Just good Japanese food. The establishment itself is rather small. By our estimates, it can seat roughly, about 15 people.
On the walls, you’ll be able to see cartoon illustration of Mount Fuji, cats and even a geisha. On the side with transparent windows, they were lined up with posters of food offered at Biseryu – including unagi, pork/chicken katsu and wagyu hamburg.
Biseryu Menu
As we were on the Eatigo deal, the server showed us the pages that the deal applies to. We then flipped to the “About Biseryu” page and found that Biseryu is actually an amalgamation of 11 popular and award winning restaurants from across Japan. They include Wagyu Beef Hamburg, Grilled Ox Tongue, Omurice, Black Angus Sirloin Steak, Grilled Lamb Don, Roast Beef Don and Norwegian Salmon.
We knew from the onset that we’d order the Wagyu Beef Hamburg ($19) since it is Biseryu’s specialty. For the other mains, the Hakata Black Curry caught our eye as we flipped through Biseryu’s menu. We’re always up for new cuisines and since we had not tried black curry before, it was natural for us to give it a try. This time, we went for the Black Curry with Pork Loin Cutlet ($19).
What We Had at Biseryu Japanese Restaurant
First, the Wagyu Hamburg Rice Set. For $19, the set came with salad, side dish, potato wedges, rice and the wagyu patty. The star of this dish (and indeed Biseryu) was definitely the wagyu patty itself. It was tender, juicy and flavourful. Slightly charred out the outside, locking in the juices and flavours within. A well-crafted dish.
Next came the Black Curry with Pork Loin Cutlet. Although the cutlet itself was not as tender and fatty as the Top Grade Black Pork at Tampopo and definitely pales in comparison against the best Pork Miso Katsu at Yabaton Nagoya, still the flavour was heighted with the Black Curry.
While waiting for the dish to be served, we did a quick search to determine how the black curry got its colour. Some mention that it is due to the caramelised onions others cite the squid ink. After tasting Hakata Black Curry, we think it is the former. You’ll still taste the rich Japanese curry taste but we also tasted the spices within, gingery and oniony to be specific. A very delightful twist to the usual Japanese curry. We’re instant fans.
