About Tasixi Hong Kong Dim Sum Restaurant
To be honest, when we saw the name of the restaurant, we thought it was a recommendation from a taxi company. Turns out that it was Tasixi (not spelt as DaSiXi) which actually means 4 happiness in Chinese. Located at 11, Jalan Camar 1/3, Taman Perling, 81200 Johor Bahru, Johor, Malaysia, Tasixi opens from 7am to 4pm daily.
This time, we departed from Singapore at 7am and arrived at Tasixi at about 8:30am. By this time, the restaurant was already full! Thankfully, there was only one other party waiting in front of us. After waiting for about 5 minutes, we were shown to our seats. As you can see from the picture, Tasixi gets really crowded. By the time we left at about 10am, there were about 30 people waiting in a snaking queue!

What did we have at Tasixi Hong Kong Dim Sum Restaurant Johor
As with Hong Kong Dim Sum restaurants, they serve a variety of items that ranges from fried items such as carrot cake, dumplings, sesame balls, egg tarts to steamed items such as siew mai, har gou, cheong fun and chicken feet. Here were some of of the items that we had…
1. Big Bao (5.20RM)
2. Liu Sha Bao (6RM for 3)
3. Shanghai Steamed Dumplings (Xiao Long Bao – 9.80RM)
4. Glutinous Chicken Rice (5.20RM)
5. Century Pork Congee (4RM)
6. Prawn/Char Siew Chee Cheong Fun (7RM)
7. Kopi/Tea (2.50RM)
8. Iced Kopi (2.80RM)
Most other items ranged from 5.5RM to 9.5RM. Our total bill came up to 111.85RM (inclusive of 6% SST). Rather decent pricing for soooo much food…

What we enjoyed at Tasixi Hong Kong Dim Sum Restaurant Johor
We actually enjoyed all the dishes from Tasixi Hong Kong Dim Sum Restoran (maybe except the congee – which was a little bland). For instance, the big bao (bun) had a tasty bao outer layer while filled with well-marinated and juicy pork within. The custard bun lived up to the “liu sha” name, with the hot molten custard flowing forth as you bite into it. The steamed pork ribs and glutinous chicken rice had traditional tastes, reminiscence of what we had in our younger years. The deep fried meat roll had ingredients that were filled to the brim – somehow, it matched well with the large slices of mushroom inside.

Tasixi was a surprise find. We were thoroughly satisfied and having ordered about 10 items, the total bill came up to less than 10SGD per pax. Taste was definitely above average. Although there were no Hong Kong dim sum trolleys pushed around, the service trays did the trick and the act of ordering by pointing as the trays approached your table, gave a feel of how a traditional Hong Kong dim sum ought to be. Be early to avoid long queues!
