Impiana Ipoh Hotel was where we stayed during our recent trip to Ipoh. One of the reasons we considered Impiana Hotel Ipoh is because of its location – a short grab ride to all the restaurants and attractions in the heart of Ipoh, as well as its affordability. This time, we spent about $70 per night at Impiana Ipoh Hotel which was not too bad. However, there are probably a few reasons why Impiana Ipoh is no longer one of the top choices for travellers to Ipoh, well at least among Singaporeans and we’ll talk a little bit more in this post. Nonetheless, because of its good service, clean rooms and decent breakfast, we still think that Impiana Hotel Ipoh, does check all the boxes if you’re looking for an affordable and decent hotel in Ipoh.
Lobby of Impiana Hotel Ipoh
The ride from Ipoh airport to Impiana Hotel Ipoh took less than 10 minutes and costs 7RM for the ride. That’s one of the reasons why we enjoy visiting Ipoh. With the airport close by to all the attractions, you don’t have to spend another hour travelling from the airport to the hotel. With Ipoh, it takes just 1 hr 15 minutes for the flight and 10 minutes from the airport to the city centre which makes the transfer a breeze.
Upon arrival at Impiana Ipoh Hotel, we were actually impressed by its entrance. It has a nice porch for you to alight and the porter or service staff will greet you and help you with your baggage. Once inside, the lobby is huge with high ceiling and brightly litted. All staff could speak excellent English as well. The only minus that we experienced during the check-in process was probably the smell. Not unpleasant but instead of the scented lobby smells at Fairmont, Swissotel or Raffles, we smelled detergent smell. Good that we’re keeping up the cleanliness but not so good that it reminded us of a clean toilet.
We also took time to explore the lobby where The Deli and The Coffee House were located in Impiana Ipoh. The Deli as the name suggests, offers sandwiches and cakes for a quick bite while the Coffee House is the resident restaurant where we had breakfast for the remaining days in Ipoh Impiana Hotel. Close by, you’ll also be able to find a door that leads you to get the swimming pool of Impiana Hotel Ipoh.
Impiana Hotel Ipoh Deluxe Room
Heading up to our room at level 8, we did find something to be amiss. While the corridor to our room looked ok, upon closer inspection, we found that some of the room doors are coloured differently from the others. This makes one wonder if the renovation has been completed? Or that the doors are left as it they are? Perhaps they’re following the old adage of “if it ain’t broken, don’t fix it”? Hm…🤔
Inside our Deluxe room at Impiana Ipoh though, we were actually to find it clean, well-lit and pretty spacious. As you can see from the photos above the room was more than we could ask for. There’s a nice, huge bathroom with bathroom amenities and water pressure as well as hot water were ok. No complaints there. You’ll get water as well as coffee and tea amenities, so that’s a plus for us when we snack at night.
As for the views…
By right, it would have been very pretty. You’ll be able to see the hills and the mountains in the background, which would have been picturesque, if not for this ongoing monstrosity next door…
We’re actually not sure if it belongs to Impiana Hotel (we sure hope it does). However, in the meantime, at least for the next 6 months or so, you may actually want to skip Impiana Hotel or choose a room that faces the main road instead. This is because the construction does get loud sometimes. It didn’t really affect us during this trip because we were pretty much out the entire day and our trip crossed over the weekend/holiday period which meant that no work was done during our time there. Still, during check-in and check-out, we could hear the pounding of the machineries despite the best efforts by the insulating window.
So, choose your Ipoh Hotel wisely for the next couple of months…
Breakfast at Impiana Hotel Ipoh
Moving on to the breakfast review at Impiana Hotel Ipoh. We found it to be quite extensive with selection both indoors and outdoors.
On the inside of The Coffee House (Breakfast Buffet at Impiana Hotel Ipoh), you’ll be able to find staples such as fried rice, fried noodles and noodles soup. Beverages such as juices, coffee/tea and water are inside as well. For desserts, there are cakes and you can also have fruits to round up your meal.
Outside by the pool, you’ll also find the other hot dishes to go with your staples such as curry chicken, fried chicken and sambal sotong. For the kids, they’ll be able to enjoy sausage, beans, tater tots and ham. There’s also an egg station outside for your usual of sunny side up, scrambled eggs or omelet.
Speaking of the pool, though we didn’t find it particularly enticing, we did see some guests swimming in the morning and evenings. But it does look a little dated. Hopefully, it will be revamped in time to come.
Here’s what we had at the breakfast buffet of Impiana Hotel Ipoh…
In terms of taste, we didn’t find the food memorable but it really isn’t bad at all. Just what you would normally find at a hotel buffet. Good variety, covers the needs of the guests from the elderly to the kids to the international clientele. But nothing that we’d say “we must have it this morning!”. During our breakfasts here, we also found a pretty interesting phenomenon…
On most days, that we visited, it was like this.
Empty. Or almost empty. We really start to wonder how they survive.
But for us, this was good. As though we had booked the entire restaurant to ourselves, leisurely having our breakfast without the need to vie for space or squeeze past other guests – unlike the time when we had breakfast at Hotel Faber Park Singapore 😅
Impiana Hotel Ipoh Facilities
As mentioned earlier, besides the swimming pool located next to the in-house restaurant at Impiana Hotel Ipoh, there’s also a gym available. It is is not a full gym so yup, adjust your expectations accordingly 😅

All in all, we were pleasantly surprised by the service, offerings and affordability of staying at Impiana Hotel Ipoh. Besides the construction work that is ongoing next door during our stay (we hope it would have completed during your visit), the hotel actually does check all the boxes if you’re looking for a no-frills, clean and spacious venue for your holidays in Ipoh. With the excellent service at Impiana Hotel Ipoh, once the construction ends, we might just find ourselves checking into Impiana Hotel Ipoh once again…
