There are so many fantastic formations within Yosemite National Park. El Capitan, Yosemite Falls, Cathedral Rocks, Badger Pass and of course the Tunnel View (also known as the incomparable view) at Yosemite National Park!
Snow Shoeing at Yosemite National Park

One of the free activities that you can do at Yosemite National Park is snow shoeing at Badger Pass. As we stayed at Yosemite Lodge by the Falls, there are daily shuttles up to Badger Pass. But do take note that only the earliest bus is able to make it in time for the free snow shoeing at the Ranger Station.
The ride up is approximately 1 hour and once you’re there, look for the house with the A frame and United States Flag. That is the waiting point for the snow shoeing led by Ranger Dick.
The thing about snow shoeing is that it increases the surface area of your feet, allowing you to navigate more easily through the snow. We had loads of fun on this “excursion”. Although tiring (yes, the walk is not for the faint of hearts), we played in the snow and fell over many times. As the snow was relatively deep, help was usually needed from others around you because you literally can’t get up by your own. And yup, we made a snow man!
Due to Ranger Dick’s knowledge, we learnt about the hidden world of mice, moles and voles living beneath the layer of ice known as the subnivean. We also saw an animal track which led us to learn more about how preys and predators move in the snow…
This was an actual coyote that we saw in Yosemite National Park. Back to what Ranger Dick mentioned…predators are able to walk in wide open areas but to increase their mobility, their hind legs would move into the spaces left behind by the fore legs. Preys on the other hand would avoid wide open spaces and would definitely avoid highlands due to accessibility issues and the lack of food. At this point, Ranger Dick drew a parallel to us humans. Animals also need food, shelter and a mode of transportation!

At Badger Pass Yosemite, you can also choose to ski at relatively reasonable prices. Compared to the Canada Olympic Park in Calgary, there are fewer skiers which means you can have more ski runs and enjoy the slopes at Badger Pass!
