Entrance of Singapore Wake Park

Singapore Wake Park is the latest cable-ski park to open right here in Singapore! Located at East Coast, the Singapore Wake Park is the the only cable-ski park facility in Singapore offering knee-boarding, wakeboarding, wakeskating and double-skis ‘cable-style‘. What’s more, depending on your preference, you can choose to ski both in the day or at night! Thanks to the great folks at Singapore Wake Park, we were hosted to an exhilarating time of night skiing, covered by our contributors Keith and Ulysses.

Our Experience at Singapore Wake Park

Singapore Wake Park is nestled between East Coast Lagoon Food Village and East Coast Seafood Centre. We drove and parked at carpark E2 (East Coast Lagoon Food Village), had a good sumptuous meal of local delights before conveniently walking over to Singapore Wake Park for our cable ski experience.

Picking Ourselves Up
Picking Ourselves Up

We opted for the 2 hours package with 8 people in our session. Each participant had the opportunity to cable ski for 8-10 times, on a one by one basis. The instructors were patient, friendly and always ready to help. They were always on-site for every attempt, pointing out ways to improve for each participant. We were first briefed on the cable system, the dos and donts as well as important safety briefing on where to mount and dismount. The instructor will then determine whether we would take the right-legged or left-legged beginner board.

How is left or right legged board determined? The instructor would give us a gentle nudge on our back to provide a slight thrust of our bodies forward. The first foot which instantaneously land forward is the master foot; i.e. Right foot lands first mean right legged board. Cool, right? Yes, agree!

We are brought to the beginner’s area (Area A), where the speed of the cable is adjustable by an operator, sitting at the vicinity, via a hand-held device. The operator will optimise the cable’s speed tailored to each participant. This is to ensure that we travel at a comfortable pace about 20km/hour, learning to stand, before progressing to the maximum speed of 31km/hour (Area C). With such attention and dedication from the instructors as well as a good system in place, we were glad that we managed to stand comfortably when cable skiing in Area A. Thus, we proceeded to Area B, to hone our “new-found skills”.

At Area B, we were given new boards with strapped on boots which were securely fastened to the boards. Each participant took turns to cable ski and swerve about the intermittent white cones in the water course. This course gave us more confidence to swerve on our boards and prepare us for Area C.

All too soon, 2 hours quickly passed. Although our muscles grew weary, we were still reluctant to leave. This was because we were able to learn to ski comfortably within the 2 hours. Would definitely recommend to friends, families and colleagues to this fun-filled sport. With $40/hour (weekday), $60/hour (weekend), we really felt it’s worth the experience to learn a new skill within 2 hours.

After the exhilarating ski session, we headed to Coastal Rhythm for some finger food. Coastal Rhythm is the water park’s café and bar. It serves good food and is a nice chill-out venue while waiting for friends at the wake park.

In time to come, we’ll sure be back to take on the challenge of skiing at area C! Credit goes to the instructors at Singapore Wake Park for guiding us to pick up this new sport! Special thanks also to Samantha and Viviane for organizing such a wonderful event for us!
