Armenian Street Heritage Hotel Review: Centrally Located with a Roof Top View in Penang

Views from roof top of Armenian Street Heritage Hotel Penang

Armenian Street Heritage Hotel was where we stayed at during our first night in Penang. As our plane arrived close to 7pm in the evening, we decided to stay at a relatively affordable hotel before heading over to DoubleTree Hilton Penang the next day at Batu Ferringhi. The hotel is also easily accessible via bus from the airport. Bus 401 was supposed to take us to the bus stop next to Armenian Street Heritage Hotel. Unfortunately for us, bus 401E came and it stopped a little further – while it was still raining. Fortunately, we brought along our umbrella and were able to arrive at the hotel, dry and safe.

About Armenian Street Heritage Hotel

Armenian Street Heritage Hotel is a centrally located hotel with a facade that exudes the former British colonial vibes. From there, we were able to head over to Love Lane, just minutes away, for our dinner at Holy Guacamole – one of our best meals in Penang during this trip. Also, it is just 8 minutes way from Komtar/Prangin Mall by foot.

The price at Armenian Street Heritage Hotel is relatively affordable as well. At $35 a night, it had a decent room with a great roof top view and even an in-house spa that offers massages starting at 68RM for an hour of full body massage. Breakfasts also can be “added-on” at an affordable 18RM ($5.5SGD). With great views over Penang/George Town, breakfasts at Armenian Street Heritage Hotel are a must. But first, here’s our room…

This time, we stayed at the Superior Double Room of Armenian Street Heritage Hotel. We had adjusted our expectations due to the rate of the hotel but we were pleasantly surprised that the room was so clean. Moreover, it had the usual frills of coffee/tea and shower amenities along with bath towels provided. However, if you take away the domestic channels, we really had only a couple of channels to watch on cable TV. For a night’s rest, the bed was ok – though Kate thought the mattress was a little too soft. We then left for an awesome dinner at Holy Guacamole (Love Lane) before turning in for the night.

Breakfast at Armenian Street Heritage Hotel

For breakfast, we just headed up to the roof top directly and we were informed that we could pay on the spot or via the reception during check-out. We chose the latter. The rooftop had a relaxed vibe with bright pastel colours and wooden furniture

We then checked out the views from the roof top of Armenian Street Heritage Hotel and they were as good as they touted it to be!

From the roof top of Armenian Street Heritage Hotel, we were able to have great views of Komtar Tower and Pragin Mall as well as the heritage areas of George Town in Penang. The cool morning breeze that matched the mountain views while having breakfast was an experience all in itself.

As for breakfast itself, it was so-so. We usually judge the quality of hotel breakfasts starting with the quality of its coffee. And at the breakfast of Armenian Street Heritage Hotel Penang, it was diluted. Almost tasteless. The rest of the breakfast such as prata (likely to be frozen), fried rice (bland) and curry were all just “passable”. Fried items such as sausages and curly fries rounded up the meal. Orange juice also tasted overly sweet and synthetic. HOWEVER, despite ALL THE SHORTCOMINGS of the breakfast offerings, you must still have breakfast here – if not only for the views. 😉
