Top 4 Things to do and Attractions in Pattaya, Thailand!

Things to do and attractions in Pattaya Thailand

Having done our cruise to Laem Chabang on Mariner of the Seas, we took the opportunity to stay over at Pattaya, Thailand. This post will cover all the things to do and attractions in Pattaya, Thailand! Enjoy!

Where to stay in Pattaya Thailand

1. Royal Cliff Hotel Pattaya

Thanks to the good folks of Royal Cliff Hotel Pattaya, we were hosted to a stay at the Mini Suite Plus of the hotel. Situated in the Gulf of Thailand, Royal Cliff Hotel offers magnificent views of the sunset over Ko Khrok Island DAILY! Whether its a romantic or beach bum getaway, you’ll be sure to find a suitable room (and affordable price) at the Royal Cliff Hotel Pattaya!

2. Pattaya Walking Street

Pattaya Walking Street is one of the main tourist attractions in Pattaya. There are loads of entertainment options along this stretch of street ranging from F&B to pubs, shows, massages and more. As you walk from the walking street towards the beach area, you’ll be able to find great (clean) massages for less than $10 an hour! :O

3. Pattaya Beach

Frankly speaking, the beach at Pattaya? One word. Disappointing. This stretch of sand is really what you get (yes, the “width” of the beach is maybe 10 steps wide, maybe 5 for Tom). The only saving grace is that there are 2 things that you can do from Pattaya Beach. Island hopping is one of the main things that you can do from Pattaya Beach and you can visit neighbouring islands such as Koh Larn, Koh Si Chang or Coral island. That’s really where you can enjoy the clear blue waters and wide sandy beaches. Not at Pattaya Beach though.

You can also get to do some water activities at Pattaya Beach. The usual suspects of para-sailing and jet-skiing are available from your friendly touters at the beach 🙂

4. Shopping!!!

There are a few shopping options along Pattaya Beach which includes

Things to do and Attractions in Pattaya Thailand

1. Incredible Sunsets

Pattaya Beach
Beaches? Nah…

If you’re thinking of a beach getaway, Pattaya may not be the ideal place (you’ll understand from the picture above). BUT! The sunsets over the Gulf of Thailand are certainly beyond description…

As the sky, sea and pool merged into one beautiful sea of blue, it really accentuates the colour of the sun. As you enjoy the marvelous sunsets, why not enjoy it over a cocktail or 2 as well? Chillaxing!

Over the years, Pattaya has also acquired an infamous reputation for its go-go bars, pubs and the “you-know-what” industry. Nonetheless, along the beach, you can still get to do loads of shopping and of course visit the many restaurants here. Clean, decent massages can be as cheap at 10 bucks for an hour!

3. Shopping & Eating!

Further down from Pattaya Walking Street, you’ll come to several shopping malls including the Royal Garden Plaza as well as the more upscale Central Festival next to the Hilton Pattaya. With brands like Mango, Zara and Dorothy Perkins, the ladies are sure to have a great time shopping! For the family, there’s a shooting gallery, a karaoke joint, spa and of course tons of food options.

While you’re here, remember to try the mango sticky rice! One of Thailand’s most famous desserts. The version we tried at Central Festival is definitely one of the best we’ve had – absolutely sweet mango and awesome sticky rice to taste!

If you’re visiting Pattaya, Royal Cliff Hotel should be your hotel of choice. As you have already seen above, the hotel offers the best views of sunsets over the Gulf of Thailand. But the greatest attraction here for us? The infinity pool at Royal Cliff Hotel! There are spa beds sprinkled throughout this amazing pool. You can also enjoy views of the sunset while lazing in this amazing pool. As the sun sets, the beautiful night lights of the pool also brings vibrancy to this gorgeous swimming pool. Royal Cliff Hotel Pattaya : Tiered Vacations “Under-One-Roof”!

Royal Cliff Hotel Pattaya

Royal Cliff Hotel in Pattaya Thailand was our choice of stay during our stopover at Laemchabang while cruising with Mariner of the Seas (Royal Caribbean Cruise). Thanks to Maria and the Royal Cliff Group, we were invited to a stay at the newly refurbished Mini Suite Plus of the Royal Cliff Beach Hotel!

About Royal Cliff Hotels Group

The Royal Cliff Hotels Group is actually made up of 4 hotels, namely, Royal Cliff Beach Hotel (Casual Luxury), Royal Cliff Beach Terrace (Exotic Luxury), Royal Cliff Grand Hotel (Formal Luxury) and Royal Wing Suites and Spa (Ultimate Luxury).

As you can already guess from the names of the hotels, Royal Cliff caters to mainly 4 different groups of clientele…

Royal Cliff Beach Hotel – Suitable for beach goers (like ourselves) who wants to just relax and enjoy the panoramic sea views and stunning sunsets from Royal Cliff Hotel. Closest access to the new addition – the Infini Pool (aka infinity pool)

Royal Cliff Beach Terrace – For honeymooners who wants some exclusivity and romantic setting, the Royal Cliff Beach Terrace offers couples a relaxed atmosphere PLUS the closest access to 1 of 2 private beaches of the Royal Cliff Hotels.

Royal Cliff Grand Hotel – The choice for businessmen at Royal Cliff, the Grand Hotel offers several dining venues (perfect for closing those deals) and is the only other hotel (besides Royal Wing Suites and Spa) that has the Cliff Spa located within the premise of the hotel – a perfect place to unwind after a day of conferences and meetings. You can also take one of the shuttle buses from the hotel lobby to reach PEACH (Pattaya Exhibition and Convention Hall) within minutes.

Royal Wing Suites and Spa – The ultimate in luxury and exclusivity, the Royal Wing Suites and Spa is the only hotel with its own private beach, which the other 3 hotels CANNOT access (yup, that’s how private and classy the hotel is). In addition, it also has its own Cliff Spa within the hotel premise. If you want luxury and exclusivity all in one venue, the Royal Wing Suites and Spa offers the perfect getaway. To give an idea of how extravagant guests here are, an Indian wedding was held here during our stay and the couple spent $500,000USD for the 7 day event, complete with fireworks and rotating cube banners! Suites start at $3000USD a night during promotion periods.

We met at the reception area of the Royal Cliff Beach Hotel and started our tour at Breezeo (Be Yourself Dining) where you can actually concoct cocktails of your own. As the name suggests, Sunset Terrace Lobby and Bar offers spectacular sunsets over the Gulf of Thailand and you can choose from its range of cocktails, sipping and enjoying the company of friends as the sun sets over Ko Khrok Island. The cocktails were amazing and the sunset seen here was simply spectacular! The only gripe we had was that the bar does not serve finger food and the only available option was complimentary nuts. Bar snacks such as chicken wings, onion rings or cheese fries would have be a great complement to the drinks and stunning views…

Tours of the suites then started at Royal Cliff Grand Hotel, starting with the Regency Suites…

What we really loved about the suite is its frontage. There are 5 balconies in this room that have sea views! Can you believe that?! Depending on whether you choose the 1BR or 2BR Regency Suite, the size of the suites ranges from 100 to 130 sqm!

At Royal Cliff Beach Hotel, any suite with a “Plus” means that it has been newly renovated. The Sea View Plus in particular has a bathtub with glass panels which allows you to soak in the waters while taking in the sea views.

Next, we moved on to the highlights of our tour – the Presidential Suites

Presidential Suites at Royal Wing Suites and Spa

We have visited the Presidential Suite (Raffles Suite) of the Raffles Hotel when we were invited to a staycation, so a visit to the Presidential Suite of a hotel is nothing new. Nonetheless, what the Royal Wing Suites lacks in tradition, it certainly more than makes up for it with style…

Presidential Platinum Suite

There are 2 themes for the Presidential Suites at Royal Wing and they are the Presidential Platinum and the Presidential Heritage Suites. The Presidential Platinum is the modern take (and more expensive one) on how a Presidential Suite ought to be. For us, the jacuzzi overlooking the sea definitely trumps many other Presidential Suites out there…

During promotions, prices of the Presidential Platinum Suite starts at $3000USD. With 220sqm of space, you’ll be spoilt for choice in which part of the suite you’d want to be in!

Presidential Heritage Suite

On the other hand, we were told that the Presidential Heritage Suite, because of its tradition design and feel are usually used to house Heads of States from various countries. At $2000USD a night and a total area of 220sqm, the Presidential Heritage Suite certainly offers businessmen a huge space to entertain, think (study room) and also host private meetings in. The traditional colours also gives a warm feel to the suite.

We also tried the room service menu of Thai-Styled Fried Rice and Coconut Tom Yum Chicken Soup which was both yummy and had authentic Thai flavours (watch out for the spiciness of the soup!). If you’re staying here, be sure to try it as well!

Breakfast at Panorama of the Royal Cliff Beach Hotel

As for breakfast, if you’re staying at the Royal Cliff Beach Hotel, then breakfast would be served at the Panorama. According to Maria, the restaurant is so named because of its panoramic views overlooking the Gulf of Thailand. Indeed the views were great and many guests “vie” to be seated at the window seats (inside) or the terrace (outside).

There was also a huge variety of choice available ranging from chinese to indian and the continental breakfasts…check out the breakfast spread at Royal Cliff Beach Hotel

During breakfast, we also noticed that there were many Russian tourists here. Perhaps the hotel has some collaboration with Russian tour groups. In fact, we also noticed many Russian and Eastern Europe tourists while walking along the streets of Pattaya. Might be useful to pick up some simple Russian such as “spatz see bah” (thank you) and “natz dro via” (cheers)!

We have travelled the world over and been to many a hotel swimming pool. But the infinity pool at the Royal Cliff Hotel is unlike any other we’ve ever been to. There are 3 “spa” areas in the pool that gives you the option of lying down or sitting down and various orientations as well (pick the one with sunset view!). We also went to the pool again at night and this time because of its various mild illuminating colours inside the pool, it transforms the feel of the pool altogether! Because of these reasons and the views you see above, we definitely rank the infinity pool at Royal Cliff Hotels in the top 3 of our list!

You’ll also be delighted to know that you can actually walk to the Pattaya Walking Street from the hotel! We took a shuttle to the entrance of the hotel and turned left along the road. You will then come to a path like this…

Path that leads to walking street in Pattaya
Path that leads to walking street in Pattaya

Path that leads to walking street in Pattaya

Along the way, we met 2 old gentlemen and they told us that if we took the cobbled stairs (extreme right of the picture), we would save approximately 5 to 10 minutes. All in all, we took about 25 minutes to get from the hotel to the walking street.

There’s also the option of taking the bus for a fee of 100 baht that takes you to the city centre. But the catch is that it only starts operating at 12pm , once every 2 hours. Walking gives you some flexibility. 😉

Starcruise – 4D3N Superstar Virgo Cruise from Singapore to Phuket, Langkawi in Balcony Class

Starcruise Phuket Langkawi

Ah…cruises…one of our favourite ways of having a holiday and vacation. There are so many benefits and advantages of going on a cruise

1. All prices inclusive. That means to say, you have 6 meals a day (2 snacks, 3 meals and a supper), use of the pool which includes the jacuzzi, sauna, gym, cinema, entertainment shows in the evening, game shows, art and craft, sunrise, sunset. ALL INCLUSIVE in one price! But of course, if you want some red/white wine or in room service, you’d have to top up. Essentially, one price gives you all the entertainment that the cruise ship offers.

2. No need for plans. That’s right! All programmes have been planned out for you each day. This really makes for a good holiday where you can just unwind, join in the programmes if you want to and skip if you just want to enjoy the sea breeze and sounds of the ocean. Even if you go for shore excursions, the options are there for you to follow what the cruise has planned for you (usually at exhorbitant prices) but you get gist ya? No planning required. Just follow the programmes and hop in and out as you wish.

3. Value for money. As a typical kiasu (scared to lose out) Singaporean, the all expenses paid for trip is value for money. For one price, I get to travel, stay in a ‘hotel’ and enjoy its facilities, eat as much as I want (thats where I really get the value back) and enjoy the shows in the evening that includes magic shows, music and dance, acrobatics/circus among others.

4. Getting back to nature – oceanliner style. You really do get to enjoy the wonders of God’s creation by joining a cruise. You can wake up each morning and enjoy the marvellous sunrise, end the evening with views of spectacular sunsets. You also get to star gaze in the night without bright city lights obscuring the view. The calming sounds of the waves and vast limitless ocean views really does soothes the soul. You could even catch a glimpse of the dolphins swimming with the cruise ship!

With that as the backdrop, Kate and I chose to celebrate our anniversary onboard the Superstar Virgo (from Starcruise) for a 4D3N cruise to Phuket and Langkawi (from Signapore).

We paid about $700 each for the balcony class room. This means that you can enjoy views of the ocean and port right in your room. Remember, there is always ongoing deals with your credit card. Usually it is with UOB and Citibank, do check this out with your local dealers. We got a 50% off through the cards.

Essentially, the trip was a relaxing and rejuvenating one. So we’ll just take you through some of the highlights of the trip!

Day 1

Bought Kate a music singing balloon – Love Machine and we started to take pictures of it throughout the ship. Take a look at the pictures…

First thing you do when you board the ship – EAT! We had our lunch at the Mediterranean (deck 12) and enjoyed some pasta with meatballs. As the ship slipped off, we immerse ourselves in the pool (parthenon pool) and waved goodbye to Singapore. We also slipped in and out of the jacuzzi and enjoyed the outdoor slide (part of it even overhangs out to the ocean!). Before long, it was dinner time! We chose to have dinner at the Chinese-themed restaurant – Pavilion (deck 6). The chinese food was not bad i must say.

Then we headed for the show of the night. It was Terry Parade (the Lido at Deck 7) performing juggling acts. He was good! Juggling things like ping-pong balls and plastic bags! Also on the same deck as you enter or leave the Lido is the casino, be wary!

Day 2

We caught the sunrise this morning and enjoyed dim sum breakfast back at the Pavilion. The picture house (deck 8) was showing Tale of Desperaux and we caught the movie there. Lunch was at Bella Vista (Deck 6) where western fanfare was served. We had a bottle of wine (too much) and enjoyed the beef and sandwich there.

We were alongside Phuket in the afternoon and we got on a tour to visit the cashew nut factory. The workers there work really hard and carefully retrieve each cashew nut from its ‘shell’ to ensure that it is whole. Any cashew nut that is not retrieved as a whole, will be considered ‘defective’ and fetch a lower price. We also got to taste the different flavours available, wasabi was one of our favourite.

At night, we headed out to Patong beach, saw tonnes of fake bags and made our way back to the ship.

Day 3

There is usually a gala night for every cruise where one is expected to dress up to the nines. This was the day. Beside lunch at Pavilion and snacks at Taverna (Deck 13 – overlooking the pool) we joined in the “Win lose or draw” gameshow and got to make a paper necklace for ourselves! (Proud look).

For dinner, you could choose to go any one of the 3 dedicated restaurants. We chose our dinner to be at the Samurai Restaurant (Deck 8) where we enjoyed the sushi, tempura, beef/chicken tepanyaki. It was a really classy place and guests were treated like VIPs.

We enjoyed Maestro & Music at Lido for the night where dance and music were performed.

Day 4

Too soon, it was day 4 and our last day before we head home to Singapore. Again, we joined in the programme for the day and included Dancexercise (healthy way to get back into shape after all that eating), Box or Bucks ( whereby you answer a question by standing at the correct place. Last person standing wins. Much like million dollar drop just that the person moves instead of the money and people are ‘dropped out’ if they choose to stand at the wrong place. Kate won btw! We received some starcruise vouchers and exchanged them for some souvenirs. Cool…) as well as mini golf!

If you’re looking for hotel stays in Singapore before setting sail, we have arranged for the best hotel deals in Singapore right here!

Conclusion

He says: If I can afford it, I would cruise for every holiday to every continent! That’s how enjoyable cruises are!

She says: For the first time, I dont have to plan for the trip and I get to really chill out and relax. With the credit card discount, it was certainly a steal.
