Punggol Container Park was one of the venues that we’ve wanted to visit because of the young and trendy vibes as well as…fairy lights! Who can resist that?! 🙄 This time, we picked Beastro Singapore for a chillax evening out by Punggol Container Park. Touted as “Contemporary Japanese”, we decided to check out whether we would be able to get the “Izakaya feel” like the ones we’ve visited in Nagoya…
About Beastro Singapore @ Punggol Container Park
Beastro Singapore serves up contemporary Japanese cuisine. Bistro, Japanese style. They also serve up draft beers. Archipelago beers to be specific. They do charcoal grill as well as donburi which together, checks off the offerings of an Izakaya. Plus, the fairy lights…😍
What we had at Beastro Singapore Punggol Container Park
For drinks, we started with Archipelago’s Summer IPA (full pint @ $12) and the Yuzu Shu cocktail ($12)…
Both drinks were really refreshing. We enjoyed the fruity notes of the Summer IPA while the Yuzu Shu has a slight tinge of sours which we enjoyed. For makan (food), we went for the Super Beast Fries ($14), the Shio Ika Squid ($10) and the DIY grilled platter which we chose
– Ribeye beef cubes ($3)
– Iberico Collar ($4)
– Pineapple ($2)
– Nasu eggplant ($3)
The Shio Ika (grilled squid) from Beastro had some hits and misses. Hits? The grilled taste and flavours was excellent. The smokiness from the grills does come out pretty well. As for the misses, you can see from the selection of the squid, it is pretty small. This was probably why, with the same grilling technique, it caused the squid to be slightly on the “rubbery” side while chewing.
As for the Super Beastro Fries, it was a hit! The fries were not the usual shoestring, but the chips version that resembles that of the plump British fries. This turned out to be a good choice because the fries were able to pick up the various condiments such as olives, minced meat, jalapeno, sour cream and cheese. All the various tastes and textures came together really well. No wonder its named after the bistro’s namesake. Delicious! Reminded us of the best nachos we’ve had in Philadelphia…
The platter is not really “DIY” in that you don’t have to go to the grill yourself. It means that you’re able to pick and choose the grilled items that you want to be in your platter. We’ve got to say that all items were not too bad. Except, maybe the pineapple that was a little too sour. We must have been spoilt by our previous visit to Rodizio Churrascaria where we tasted one of the sweetest pineapples on grill. It was still juicy as well! The eggplant was the surprising item that remained really moist and juicy, complete with the grilled tastes. The 2 meats on the other hand, passed. But not with flying colours as they were slightly on the tough side, especially the beef cubes where we had to struggle a little with the sinews. The pork collar had the fatty bits which was rather tasty.

There are so many other offerings at Punggol Container Park that the next time we’re here, we’re unlikely to return to Beastro. While the prices are rather decent, besides the Super Beast Fries which we particularly enjoyed, there wasn’t really another spark which would be enticing us back for a second visit.
