Due to the boo boo that Tom made (read 1st paragraph of Brisbane Travels Day 1: Brisbane City Tour post), we had to take the train from Brisbane to Montville. Thank the Lord, the public transport system in Brisbane is not as ulu (Singlish for undeveloped) as the United States. This morning, we departed from Eagle Junction Station but before that, we visited Espresso Boutique for our morning coffee (Flat White – $5.5) as well as Baked to Perfection for a beef steak pie ($7) and apple turnover ($4.5)…
Travelling from Eagle Junction Station (Brisbane) to Nambour Station by Train
As they were conveniently next to Eagle Junction Station, we could time our breakfast to finish before our departure from Eagle Junction Station to Nambour Station at 8:46am. The cost of the ticket is only $10.20 per person. Given that the distance is 100km and a travel time of about 2 hours, the price is quite reasonable.
The train rides can also be paid by Go Card. Just remember to tap before you embark the train. Lookout for the yellow stand at the platform, tap and go! For more information about the purchase and refund of Go Card in Brisbane, check out our experience on Day 1 of our Brisbane Travels!
Bus 890 from Nambour Station to Montville
Upon arrival at Nambour Station, we headed to look for Bus 890 that does the local transfer from Nambour to Montville. The interval is about 3 to 4 hours between each departure from Nambour Station. Hence, you should take note of the timings of the train and buses before you embark on this trip. Nonetheless, Nambour is a relatively big township. If you happen to miss bus 890 (we hope not), you can still hang around within the city and do some shopping and even catch a movie. The transfer from Nambour Station to Montville takes about 30 mins and costs $4.2 per person. As the bus is operated by a local bus company, it can be a big or small bus (like what you see below), depending on the period of travel. Head to the end of the bus terminal at Nambour Station and you will find the stand for bus 890.
The reason why many people visit Montville, is because of the views it affords. Many also head to Montville to enjoy the tranquility, spa facilities as well as the sanctuary that the area affords. A popular retreat destination is the Clouds of Montville Eco Resort & Spa.
At Montville, you’ll arrive at Montville State School which is along the Main Street of Montville. Pretty much everything is along Main Street. Before we left, we also took a photo of the departure schedule from the same stop…
Wine & Liqueur Tasting at Castle Glen Montville
As it was raining after we alighted in Montville (summer is also the thunderstorm period :(), we decided to seek shelter at Castle Glen. Castle Glen produces various kinds of yummy alcohols such as chocolate coffee liqueur and ginger rum. What better place to seek shelter right? 😛
The attendant at Glen was very friendly and allowed us to try the various liqueurs that took our fancy. Eventually, we left with a chocolate coffee liqueur which tastes AWESOME with ice cream! We’re still enjoying it at the time of writing this post! A bottle of wine for the road – since Tom did not drive. As well as the ginger rum for “health purposes”. They’re supposed to be good for flu and stuff you know? 😛

Lunch at Montville Cafe Bar & Grill – King Henry Ribs!
As we arrived on a Wednesday, many restaurants were closed. Many of the shops were closed as well – probably due to the storm season. Hence, we headed to Montville Cafe Bar & Grill for our lunch. With its Tudor-style decoration and home-styled comfort food, Montville Cafe Bar & Grill was the perfect spot for us to have our fill and wait for the rain to pass…
This time, we ordered the Montville Gold ($6.5) and Montville Premium ($7) draft beers as well as the King Henry Ribs ($39). The cool thing about dining in Australia is that the printed price is the final price, inclusive of taxes. If you take a look at the size of the ribs, you’ll be hard-pressed not to say that this was good value…

Chilling at Poets Cafe Montville
After the hearty meal, we chilled a little while more before heading to Poets Cafe on Montville Main Street for a cuppa before meeting our AirBnB host who so kindly offered to pick us up.
As we arrived at 3:15pm, Poets Cafe was already “blasting” loud music as a signal to patrons – “ITS TIME TO LEAVE!”. Again, due to the weather, we were not able to enjoy the views overlooking Sunshine Coast from Poets Cafe. If you’ve enjoyed the views, let us know more in the comments section below.
Poets Cafe
Address: 167 Main St, Montville QLD 4560, Australia
Opening Hours: 9:30am to 4:30pm
Before long, our host arrived at Poets Cafe to pick us to their home in Flaxton…
In Montville, there’s a small mini-mart (IGA X-press Montville) where we got our dinner for the evening at the AirBnB. We ended the evening with our favourite show during the trip – Married at First Sight, noodles, ham and company (A HUGE SPIDER WAS IN THE LEAVING ROOM!). Lovely stay nonetheless, in the tranquil area of Flaxton.
