Brisbane Travels Day 6: Eumundi Markets & Brewery!

2bearbear @ Eumundi Markets Australia

Departing from Noosa, we headed south towards Brisbane, where we were to take our flight back to Singapore. So soon! *sob sob* Enroute, we stopped by a little town known as Eumundi. Here, we visited the vibrant Eumundi Markets as well as the popular Eumundi Brewery!

Eumundi Markets

One of the reasons why Eumundi Markets is so popular is because it is touted as “the biggest and the best art and craft market in Australia“. Here you’ll be able to find gems made by local artisans including furniture, home wares, artworks, ceramics, fashion and jewellery. But you have to remember that Eumundi Markets only open 2 days per week, on Wednesdays and Saturdays…

Address: 80 Memorial Dr, Eumundi QLD 4562, Australia
Opening Hours: Wednesdays (8am to 1:30pm), Saturdays (7am to 2pm)

As it was drizzling during our visit, we were unable to see the extent of the Eumundi Markets. However, we were glad to have enjoyed pockets of sunshine to capture some photos of Eumundi Markets on a sunny day. Throughout the markets, there were several musicians playing live music and that kept the vibes of the markets that much more lively. In particular, we enjoyed a didgeridoo musician that combined pop and soul music in the performance. Another highlight was the sheer number of stores available for Kate to do her favourite activity…SHOPPING!

As it was still drizzling, not all the shops were opened. Kate would have shopped longer if it was a sunny day with loads more unique boutiques to browse ;P For lunch, we stopped by Eumundi Brewery

Address: 1 Etheridge St, Eumundi QLD 4562, Australia
Opening Hours: 1130am to 9pm (except Fri and Sat till 11:30pm)

As Eumundi Brewery is located within the Imperial Hotel Eumundi, you can actually park at the hotel itself. Parking is complimentary for diners at Eumundi Brewery. At Eumundi Brewery, you can also join the Eumundi Brewery Tasting Tours. These happen on Wednesdays (12:30pm) and Saturdays (11am/12:30pm/2pm) only. The tours itself costs $20 per person. However, if you take the tour and lunch combo, it costs only $35 per person. Definitely great value to have lunch thrown in as well.

As we were not sure if there were still available slots for the tasting tours, we decided to order some drinks (before kitchen opened at 11:30am)…

This time, we tried Summer Lovin and Wappa from Eumundi Brewery. Although it was $13 a pint (which we thought was a little pricey) but they tasted rich and flavourful. Plus, Australia prices are already inclusive of taxes and tips are not required. We also learnt that Wappa is named after the water source, Wappa Falls where the water was used to brew this beer. Definitely a must-try. In addition to their own beers, Eumundi Brewery also has several guest beers on tap, including the famous One Fifty Lashes from the Charming Squire 😉

Once the kitchen opened, we headed over to make our orders. Do note that you cannot order food from the outdoors counter – only beer is served there. Orders for food is only taken inside. This time, we ordered the Sweet Potato and Corn Ricotta Fritters with toasted almonds ($16), Seared Yellow-Fin Tuna Tacos with red cabbage mango pineapple ginger salsa ($19) as well as the Hawaiian Pizza ($17) from Eumundi Brewery. Our favourite was the seared yellow-fin tuna tacos. It was beautifully presented, served with fresh tuna that preserved the sweetness of the fish with light searing. The salsa also complimented the tuna perfectly. Yum!

Big Pineapple Queensland

Enroute to Moffatt Beach, we stopped by the Big Pineapple at Woombye…

Opened on 15 August 1971, The Big Pineapple is an iconic heritage and tourism landmark in Queensland. If you’re driving along Bruce Highway, it is a sight that you definitely can’t miss. At 16 metres in height, it was first built for that purpose, to attract the attention of commuters passing by the area. Today, it is also home to the award winning Big Pineapple Music Festival.

The Big Pineapple itself is a museum. Inside, you can see the history of how the Sunshine Plantation came to be and well as some of the products that were produced by Golden Circle. At the top of the Big Pineapple, you can have views over the plains of Wildlife HQ – where kids can have close encounters with the cute koalas or wombats!

Besides Moffat Beach Brewing Co, there are also several cafes and restaurants located along Seaview Terrace, including Cafe by the Beach, the Fish Bowl and the Pocket Espresso Bar. After browsing through the menu, we settled on the Broccolini, Chicken Schnitzel and the Fish of the Day

Inclusive of the beers, the total cost came up to $81.7 – good for three to share. For us, Broccolini was definitely the dish that stood out. The presentation was unique and the labne dip – a yogurt cheese, somehow suited the besan (chickpea flour) battered broccolini.

As the sun set, dark clouds gathered and soon it started to POUR! Even with the blinds drawn, we could still feel slight splatter of rain. Then a miracle happened, after we decided that the rain was light enough for us to walk back to our accommodation, the rain stopped! Thank the Lord! 🙂 Thereafter, we were able to walk back (albeit briskly) without any drop of rain at all!

Day 7 of our Brisbane Travels

As day 7 was a short day, we’ll be combining it in this post. Just before sunrise, we woke up and headed to Moffat Beach, hopefully to catch the sunrise…

Golden Beach Queensland

Although it turned out to cloudy, it was still pleasant to enjoy the sound of the waves and fresh crisp air of the morning. We also saw some dogs frolicking along the Swamp Creek with their owners. Our last beach experience was at Golden Beach. You can actually walk on the spit during low tide. It kinda looks as though you’re walking on water…

DFO Brisbane

To round off our trip in Brisbane, we did some duty free shopping at DFO Brisbane and we also finally got to try out burgers at Burger Urge (notice the play of words!)…

If you’re having just one burger at Burger Urge, we’d strongly recommend El Diablo with onion rings. This is because the burger itself is chock-full-of-ingredients including maple bacon, onion rings, cheese and jalapenos.
