During KLOVE Cruise 2024, we were introduced by fellow cruisers Bob and Karen to Buc-ee’s. Apparently, it is not only a petrol station but also is home to the world’s largest convenience store and world’s longest car wash! This we’ve got to check out! Afterall, we’d need to pump petrol enroute from Miami to Jacksonville as well as on our return leg…
First Impressions of Buc-ee’s Florida
There are over 40 Buc-ee’s in the whole of USA but only 2 in the state of Florida. Hence, enroute to Jacksonville from Florida, we stopped by the first Buc-ee’s we passed by and that is the one at Daytona Beach, Florida!
The drive to Buc-ee’s was actually quite interesting. As you draw closer to a Buc-ee’s, you’ll signs that tells you how far you are away from one and some signs have funny slogans or information as well. These increase the anticipation of our first ever visit to a Buc-ee’s…
In case you might miss the exit (since there are only 2 Buc-ee’s in Florida), they even have a sign to remind drivers to “Exit Now”
The other thing that caught our attention as we were driving towards Buc-ee’s was the super cute beaver that it has as its mascot. Apparently, it was chosen because its founder’s childhood nickname, Arch “Beaver” Aplin. The name “Buc-ee’s” thus combines both the nickname “Beaver” and his Labrador Retriever’s name “Buck”. As it originated in Texas since 1982, there were actually no Buc-ee’s outside of Texas until 2019. Hence, we were blessed to be able to visit a Buc-ee’s enroute this time…
Upon arrival at Buc-ee’s, we were surprised by how many petrol pumps there were. We then found out that on average, each Buc-ee’s has over 100 pumps! :O After pumping our petrol for $24 (8 gallons – cheap by SG standards), we headed into the convenience store of Buc-ee’s. The largest convenience store of Buc-ee’s is located at Sevierville. Tennessee at 74,707 square feet but the outlet at Daytona Beach is not small either at 53,000 square feet. Hence, it’s shopping time! (For Kate!)
Inside Buc-ee’s Daytona – One of the World’s Largest Convenience Stores
Once inside, we realised why Buc-ee’s owns the world record for having the “World’s Largest Convenience Store”. IT WAS HUGE! If you take a look at the photo above it actually only shows about half the store at Buc-ee’s. Of course, if you compare to hypermarts like Walmart, they’d be smaller – since the world’s largest Walmart comes in at a behemoth 260,000 square feet at Albany, New York. Still, there were plenty to explore during our time at Buc-ee’s.
As one of the world’s largest convenience store at a petrol station, Buc-ee’s has to sell stuff other than food right? Yup, we found Buc-ee’s to be selling everything from clothes to accessories and soft toys for the kids. There’s even a corner that sells Buc-ee’s merchandise, perfect for “tourists” like us on a once-in-a-very-long-time-probably-only-time visit to Buc-ee’s.
One of the reasons why we started to pile on Buc-ee’s souvenirs into our baskets were because they have their own in-house packaged items that range from nuts to trail mix and even jerkies. Because they’re so well packaged and comes with a cute Buc-ee’s Beaver on its wrapping, it makes a perfect gift for friends back home as well. It is not often that Singaporeans visit Buc-ee’s, that is why we went a little berserk buying up trail mix, chips, popcorn and its most famous offerings – Beaver Nuggets (a caramel-coated corn pop snack – not to be misread as “popcorn” as it is not.)
Of course, Buc-ee’s is also famous for its barbecue meats and sandwiches. As you can see from the pictures above, sandwiches such as pulled pork, beef brisket and smoked sausage sandwiches are made fresh daily in-house. This time, we tried the sliced BBQ brisket sandwich ($8.49USD) and it was so so good! Tender and flavourful meats within a slightly sweetened bun. Yum!
We also tried the Kolache at Buc-ee’s. Kolaches are Czech pastries that are pretty popular at Buc-ee’s. For desserts, we tried the strawberry cheese kolache ($1.99) which were pretty hardy and value-for-money. There are also many other desserts to choose from ranging from cookies to muffins and cinnamon rolls!
Our total damage this time was $51.19 (inclusive of 3.6% taxes):
Strawberry Cream Cheese Kolache – $1.99
Buc-ee’s Nuggets (White Cheddar) – $3.98
Buc-ee’s Nuggets (100z – Cinnamon x 2) – $4.98
Buc-ee’s Trail Mix (Sweet & Savory) – $2.29
Buc-ee’s Trail Mix (Peanut Butter x 2) – $2.99
Buc-ee’s Corn Chips (Honey BBQ x 2) – $1.69
Buc-ee’s Corn Chips (Chili) – $1.69
Buc-ee’s Cinnamon Sweet Snack – $1.69
Buc-ee’s Cinnamon Roll w Pecan – $3.69
Sliced BBQ Brisket Sandwich – $8.49
Premium Drinking Water – $1.59
Pretzel Garlic Parmesan – $2.98

Visiting Buc-ee’s was yet another new experience for us. Having stayed in US for a bit, it was actually our first time visiting such a large petrol station and an even larger petrol convenience store at Buc-ee’s. The fun part about shopping at the Buc-ee’s convenient store is that you not only get great BBQ meats and yummy pastries, you’ll also be able to shop and even bring back some “beaver” souvenirs for your friends as well. Hence, if you’re on a road trip in Texas or Florida, be sure to make a stop to Buc-ee’s and enjoy the experience of what Buc-ee’s has to offer!
