Castello di Amorosa in Napa Valley was our stop of choice for wine appreciation when we visited California. Castello di Amorosa is not only a winery but is also a structure modeled after a 13th century Tuscan castle. Imagine overlooking the vineyards from the castle…

After the tour, we headed over to the highlight of the trip. Wine tasting!
Wine Tasting at Castello di Amorosa Napa Valley
Wine tasting is located at the tasting room of the castle. It is located at the lower levels. Just follow the signs to the “Tasting Room” down a flight of stairs. There, your friendly in-house sommelier will greet you and invite you over for tastings.

The tasting room also doubles up as a souvenir shop. Afterall, what’s an attraction without souvenirs right? Here, you’ll be able to get all sorts of souvenirs including books (about Castello di Amorosa), wine glasses, tea towels, cheese boards and of course, wines! There are 2 tasting areas in the tasting room. We headed to the “more discreet” area at the back and was greeted by our most friendly sommelier…

Because of our sommelier, we were given probably the most fun and amazing wine tasting session EVER! With the $25 admission fee, we were given 5 premium wine tastings. We tried the Pinot Grigio, Gioia, Sangioveses, Cabernet Sauvignon and La Fantasia – the most popular wine at Castello di Amorosa. Our sommelier in fact, offered more wines after our tasting and said, “If there’s any wine that you’d like to try, just let me know *wink*“. That was probably why Kate became a little tipsy after the session. Tom drank less as he was designated driver.
Facade of Castello di Amorosa Napa Valley
After the wine tasting, you’ll check out at the cashier (refer to picture above) and exit the castle. At this point, if you’re still sober, you’ll be able to take some photos around the vineyard and the castle as well. When we left, there was a wine trolley that just arrived at Castello di Amorosa. That is a safer alternative than driving from winery to winery – something we tried during our wine tasting trip to Margaret River…
