Chicken Hotpot, also known as 鸡公煲 in Chinese is a franchise that originated from Shanghai, China. We have seen the 50% discount from Eatigo for a couple of times now and were finally able to give it a try. Unlike the conventional “hotpot” we know in Singapore, Chicken Hotpot is more of a claypot style dish with a twist – after finishing some of the hot pot, you can add broth to turn it into a mini steamboat. This, we’ve got to try…

What We Had at Chicken Hotpot Compass One Singapore
Before long, our hotpots arrived, boiling hot!
Our first impression of the dish was that it was chock full of fresh ingredients! The celery and onions were fresh, crisp and for the onion, sweet. Plus, there were so many pieces of chicken within as well – a very generous serving. As for the taste, it was fragrant and not too salty. Perfectly concocted to go pretty well with a fragrant bowl of rice.
Next, the Chicken Pork Tripe Hotpot (猪肚鸡煲)…
The soup was exactly how we imagined it to be. Flavourful, thick and with a nice little spiciness from the white pepper. Excellent stuff. As for the ingredients, the chicken was tender but the pork tripe was just a pass. The cut could have been thicker and the texture more tender. Especially after trying out the Pig Stomache Soup from Jason’s Nonya House in Penang just a couple of weeks before – it loss out a little. But the soup was great and there was a generous amount of ingredients as well.
After eating halfway through our hotpots, we added broth and our hotpots “magically” became steamboats…
Loved both styles of the hotpot and steamboat from Chicken Hotpot. Simply because the flavours and seasoning of both the Chicken Hotpot and Chicken Pork Tripe Hotpot were so good. The different style of eating towards the end, also allowed us to slowly cook our ingredients and enjoy conversations while our ingredients were brought to a boil. When the fuel for the hotpot went out, the staff was also prompt to change out the fuel for us. Twice they did during our meal.

All in all, we had a terrific time at Chicken Hotpot Compass One. The flavours were excellent and the ingredients generous. A nice little touch of adding broth to convert the hotpot to steamboat also allowed us to enjoy our meal towards the end, steamboat style. A nice little innovation here.
