Tucked away along the enclave of restaurants at Dunlop Street is Chimichanga – a Mexican Restaurant. This time, due to the 50% discount with the Eatigo App, we decided to try out some of its offerings.
Inside Chimichanga Mexican Restaurant at Dunlop Street
Chimichanga is located smack between 2 Downtown Line (DTL) MRT stations – Jalan Besar and Rochor MRT Stations. This time, we alighted from Rochor MRT and took a short (less than 5 minutes) walk to the restaurant. The restaurant itself is easily recognisable. Instead of a huge banner of the name of the restaurant, look out for the old sign that says “Lian Eng Electric Co.” and you know that you’re here…
Inside, the Mexican flair continues with Sombrero (Mexican Straw Hat), a brightly coloured ambience and of course a full service bar offering Frozen Margarita, Tequila Shots and Corona Beer…
The cool part about Eatigo’s 50% discount is that all items on the menu would be half off! In addition, there’s no taxes added to the final bill when you dine at Chimichanga! The only down side to Eatigo is that drinks are not half off. Probably that’s where most restaurants have the highest profit margin. Nonetheless, since we were there on a Monday, we were in time for a 2-for-1 margarita deal. The restaurant was also kind enough to honour both deals, essentially allowing us to have half off for everything we had!
Though it was 2 margaritas for the price of 1, the bartender at Chimichanga definitely did not go light on the tequila. We could feel the punch on the first sip and was a little tipsy after just 1 glass. Go easy if you’re having the frozen margaritas at Chimichanga 😉
To test out the authenticity of the Mexican food at Chimichanga, we tried out the Loaded Nachos with Beef (original price of $12) as well as the Salt Pork Tinga Rice Bowl (original price of $12)…
To put it simply, we were thoroughly impressed. The beef and the pork were well marinated and roasted to perfection. The smokey flavours and tender meat welcomed us on every bite. Chimichanga was also not stingy on the avocado and cheeses, allowing all the flavours to fuse together as a loaded nachos ought to. Of course, our favourite nachos to date is still the Macho Nachos from Elvez Philadelphia. Yumz!
