During our stay at Grand Hyatt Kochi, we got a chance to visit Colony Clubhouse & Grill – the hotel’s rooftop restaurant offering panoramic views of Kochi…
Interiors of Colony Clubhouse & Grill Kochi
The interiors of Colony was spacious and modern. Brightly-lit, warm and inviting. The lights had a slight industrial feel to it, reflecting the old-school approach of the grills – open fires, smoking grills and burning embers. Burning embers over coconut husks to be exact…
Sustainability also features prominently on the menu at Colony Clubhouse & Grill. All seafood are sourced locally with emphasis on being farmed and raised in an manner that is sustainable, supporting the natural ecosystem of Kochi. Certain herbs and veg are also grown in-house as well. Fresh from garden to table.
What we had at Colony Clubhouse & Grill Grand Hyatt Kochi Bolgatty
Cold Mezze
We started off with the Cold Mezze with a whole slew of dips for the pita bread! This included yummy dips such as
– Jack fruit, crushed chickpeas & stone ground tahina
– Green pea and Avocado hummus
– Smoked Aubergine, Pomegranate and chia seeds mutable,
– Almond muhmarra
Tom’s favourite was the rich jack fruit dip with textures of crushed chickpeas while Kate’s favourite was the appetizing promegranate-based dip. Reminded us of the rooftop experience we had in Monterey, California. Yup, cool dips with pita breads are no longer restricted to Turkish and middle-eastern cuisines! 😉 Mm…
Tofu Salad
Thanks to Chef Sajeet and team, we were able to film the making of the the signature tofu salad. A really appetizing dish that had fresh vegetables, crunchy beansprouts and smoky depth all-round. Yum!
Colony Seafood Soup
The Colony Seafood Soup had a rich yet clear broth. Noodles, made in-house had a slight springy texture. Absolutely slurp-worthy. Wanted seconds for the noodles but had save some space for what was to come…
Crispy fried Anchovy, Lime aioli
The anchovies were really fresh, well battered. Light and crisp on the outside with rich tasty anchovy on the inside. The lime aioli brightened and complemented the dish well.
Mix Grill Platter
The mixed grill at Colony Clubhouse & Grill consists of grilled chicken, lamb, beef tenderloin, lamb kubideh and prawns. Besides that the grills were absolutely delicious (prawns were sooo succulent!), the accompanying sauces also lifted the party in our mouths! Sauces included curry, garlic aioli and kerala peppercorn.
Ancient Grain Risotto & Asparagus Pearl Cous Cous
For mains, there are also vegetarian options including the Ancient Grain Risotto and the Asparagus Pearl Cous Cous. We really enjoyed the risotto with brown barley rice. Not only was it rich, the wild mushrooms also infused into the risotto altogether.
Coconut Shell Smoked Duck
To top off the mains segment, we tried the signature coconut shell smoked duck. According to Chef Sajeet, the duck had been smoked for 6 hours. Hence, not only was the duck tender, the coconut shell smoke also infused a tropical depth to the overall taste. Somehow the sweet fig chutney played the balancing role well. Akin to the effect that the raspberry sauce had on the smoked duck we had at Folk Gospoda Warsaw (Poland).
Desserts
To round off our lunch escapade at Colony Clubhouse & Grill, we had the cheesecake with passion fruit as well as the chocolate lava cake! We LOoooooooooooveed the chocolate lava cake! Rich, fluffy, chewy with a slight crisp. So many textures all rolled into one. Topped off with a classic vanilla ice cream? Perfect!
Meet the Chefs of Colony Clubhouse & Grill Grand Hyatt Kochi Bolgatty
Meet the brains behind Colony Clubhouse & Grill, Chef Hermann Grossbichler! According to Chef Hermann, it was a challenge to source for good cuts of meats for a traditional grill restaurant that he was gunning for. It also took some time to establish relations with the locals to be able to acquire fresh and sustainable seafood on a daily basis. Nonetheless, because of the hard work, guests at Colony Clubhouse & Grill will be able to taste some of the best grills Kochi has to offer. Assisting him is Chef Sajeet, who kept surprising us with every single dish that came to our table. Kudos to the chef team at Colony!
