On day 2 of our Cruise to Nowhere aboard the Genting World Dream, we were greeted by the beautiful sea views of the South China Sea…
We took some time to analyse Dream Daily before we headed out for breakfast…
There were quite alot of programmes that we wanted to join today, including
10am: Oktoberfest Culinary Workshop – Apfel Strudel
3pm: Oktoberfest Culinary Workshop – Pretzel and Bavarian Potato Salad
4:30pm: Paper Rose making
There were other interesting sessions such as Belly Dance, K-Pop Dance, Tie-dye T-shirt and Oktoberfest Trivia. However, there were too many activities and too little time. Hence, after deciding on the few activities, we decided to head to Dining Room (Lower) for Western Breakfast…
Cruise to Nowhere – Breakfast at Dream Dining Room (Lower) Genting World Dream
To snag a great seat, we recommend to head for meals 15 minutes before the opening hour of the venue. For breakfasts, we’re always there at 7am. This also allowed us to request for the best seats in the house. At Dream Dining (Lower), you are able to get window seats – something that you will not be able to get at Dream Dining (Upper) due to the layout of the dining rooms.
We also enjoyed the poached eggs. It was runny, as it ought to. Hashbrown was surprisingly well-fried. We also wanted to start off our first breakfast with a glass of mimosa each from our Classic Beverage Package. However, we were told that mimosa were not included in the package, eventhough it was just a combination of sparkling wine and orange juice – both of which are included in the Classic Beverage Package. We queried further and found out that it was technically 2 orders for a glass of mimosa. 2 orders at one go is not allowed with the beverage package on Dream Cruises. Hence, to circumvent this, we ordered 2 sparkling wines and 2 orange juices to make our own concoction.
Cruise to Nowhere Genting World Dream Activities
After breakfast, we headed to the swimming pool at Deck 16 to book our jacuzzi slot. As mentioned in our World Dream Cruise Pre-cruise preparations and in our previous post, you can only make one booking slot per day. We made a mistake of booking the swimming pool slot and headed back this morning at 8am to book the jacuzzi slot. Fortunately or unfortunately, all the night slots for jacuzzi were fully booked. However, we were able to book the first slot at Zouk Beach Club’s jacuzzi from 8 to 9am. Which, was still pretty good since you’ll be able to enjoy a “private” jacuzzi pool with sea views at Zouk Beach Club.
After making our jacuzzi booking, we headed to Sports Activities Centre at Deck 18 to see if we were able to try out the Rope Course. The activity centre opens at 9am and the Rope Course is at a first-come-first-served basis. Hence, we headed over at 8:45am. However, there was already a queue formed up. Unfortunately, we were not able to try out the Rope Course on the first morning because the Rope Course was still wet due to the morning showers.
While heading back down, we were able to catch this beautiful view of the swimming pool from the window at Deck 17…
We then wanted to do some videoing before the Apfel Strudel making session at 9am. However, we were stopped by the staff while we were filming the gaming machines at Deck 6. The video was also deleted on the spot. Apparently, filming and photography of the gaming areas are not allowed. This means that Deck 6 to 8 is out of bounds for filming. 😑
At 10am, the Apfel Strudel started on time at the Lobby (deck 6). As we’re still in the midst of the pandemic, there’s no tasting of Apfel Strudel. Hence, there’s really no difference whether you’re seated within the designated area or not. Even if you’re outside of it, you’ll be able to see the demonstration as it will be featured on the big screen. But we did enjoy the demonstration, learning how to make the “stretchy” dough and rolling the ingredients inside to make the final product. Thankfully, we were told that Apfel Strudels would be served for dinner at Lido the following night. 🤗
Just before lunch, we had our pre-lunch drinks at Sun Deck Bar (Deck 17). This time, we took down all that the Classic Beverage Package entails:
At bars around the ship, you can no longer sit next to the bar. However, at Sun Deck Bar, there are sofa seats around. In particular, there’s one that is shielded from the mid-day sun. Here, we were able to chill for about 30 minutes, trying out the drinks and really settling into the Cruise to Nowhere rhythm…
This time, we were able to try out the non-alcoholic beer (Warsteiner) and figured out that the Lindeman Chardonnay (the yellowish looking one) tasted strange. The Frontera Chardonnay on the other hand tasted quite good. Do check out our post on World Dream Cruises Classic Beverage Package review for more details.
Cruise to Nowhere – Lunch at Dream Dining Room (Upper) Genting World Dream
During this cruise to nowhere, we decided that we should have most of our meals at the Dream Dining Rooms. While the concept of buffet is a rarity (especially in the post-COVID world), enjoying conversations and drinks with table service is a treat as well. The asian food at Dream Dining (Upper) turned out to be better than expected – especially after all the negative reviews that we’ve seen online. The deep fried bean curd roll was crispy and well marinated within, complimenting the draft Heineken beer pretty well. We enjoyed most of the soups as well. This time, the double boiled pork rib soup was rich and savory. Yum. The sweet and sour fish was crisp on the outside and the sauce was decent 😋 On the other hand, the chicken, mushroom and BBQ sausage was rather bland. The vegetables are always bland – meant for your bowel movements only. Desserts (chilled white fungus and fruit cocktail), cursory.
Oh, a fly fell into our beer and we “had to” order a 2nd one. You’ll see this and more in our video coverage! 😆
Our swimming pool reservation (remember the boo boo we made yesterday?) was at 2pm. However, we decided to drop by earlier to see if the swimming pool was available. Turns out, it was! So here’s another tip, if you see that there’s not many people at the swimming pool, chances are, you’ll be able to turn up and head to the swimming pool immediately without booking. As our booking was from 2 to 3pm and there were not many people at 1pm, we were able to use the swimming pool from 1 to 3pm!
During this 2 hours slot, we found out that even though we arrived at 1pm, a reservation slip was still written down. This was handed over to the next guy who ensured that we tapped our room card for contact tracing purposes. At the 2nd hour, all we had to do was to hand over our original reservation slip and tapped our room card again. The other thing is that although the swimming pool area is cordoned off (only those with reservations can enter), you can still exit, grab a drink from the Sun Deck Bar and chill by the pool. We also managed to get plenty of fluids replenished with Pellegrino and Acqua Panna…
The water slides opened at 3pm. After our pool session, we headed over to try the slides. The stairs up to the water slides are right in front of the VR ESC Lab. So it is a different stairs from the one that leads to the Sports Activities Centre. Look out for the signs on the stairs. Water slides are on a first-come-first-served basis. Once you’re there, you can remove your slippers, garments and hook your mask on one of the hooks provided there. There is a guard to help look after your belongings. Thereafter, you’ll proceed up another flight of stairs to take the slides from there!
If you take a look at the water slides portion of the photo above, you’ll notice that there are 3 slides to the right and 2 slides to the left. The 3 slides are more of the “fun” slides. There are parts that exhilarating but for the most part, it’s benign. Our favourite of the 3 slides is the one with the bowl (notice the blue circular bowl-shaped part of the slide). Once inside the bowl, you’ll go around in circles till you wriggle yourself to the part of the tube to slide out. As for the other 2 water slides. Take at your own peril. Nah…just kidding. It has a short drop at the front and its definitely more exciting than the other 3. But once you’ve done the leap of faith, it’s really nothing…
The water slides are super shiok. As long as the Captain navigates to a place without rain, we could do the slides all day long!
Cruise to Nowhere Genting World Dream – Rose Making Class
At about 4pm, we headed to Palm Court (Deck 19) to chill and wait for our 4:30pm session of the Rose Making Class. Thankfully, there weren’t many people who were interested in this class and we were able to get a slot. To get to Palm Court, the only way is to use the elevators, stairs don’t get you there and you have to choose the right lift. While chilling out with our red wines (remember to choose the Merlot), we also had a glimpse of how the Palace Suite was like…
Palm Court is definitely our favourite place to chill out. You’ll get unblocked views of the ocean while enjoying the calm and serenity indoors. At the same time, you can sneek a peak at how the “rich and famous”, ala Palace Suite passengers, enjoy and bask in the afternoon sun. To get a slot in the workshops, you’ll have to place your name on a sign-up sheet right before a dark blue curtain (there’s a stand there). Once the class is about to begin, your names will be called one by one to enter. We couldn’t bring our drinks in but the waiters were attentive enough to place covers on our wines. Did we mention that we love the service at Palm Court as well? 😍
The staff that taught us was Liz and she was very attentive, giving pretty good instructions for our roses. We were given 2 different colours, so we decided to mix-and-match a little to have a rose that has layers of colours. Not too shabby right? Although it does look quite different from what it was supposed to be. But we’re beginners. So…🙄
As it was the Oktoberfest theme, there were German beer packages, complete with German Beer Mugs (Bierkrug). However, we found out that each mug only costs $10! The design’s quite pretty as well. Just that, on closer look, you can see that it’s laser printed. Nonetheless, for $10, it was a steal! We bought 2 but were given plastic and brown paper bags. Thankfully, we were told that we were able to head over to the souvenir stall (Deck 7) to get a nice paper bag. 😀
Cruise to Nowhere Genting World Dream – Outdoor Hotpot by the Sea
One of the things that piqued our interest after we booked our cruise to nowhere with Dream Cruises, was the prospect of being able to have alfresco hotpot with sea views. Hence, we made a reservation for the 6pm slot prior to our cruise. You can find out more about how we did it on our Genting World Dream pre-cruise preparation post.
After we were seated, we browsed through the Hot Pot Menu and decided on the seafood platter and meat set combos…
The combos were actually not really cheap. At $38 and $48 respectively, the entire bill came up to $101.50 inclusive of a 18% tax. However, the service and sea views made the experience rather worth it. After placing our orders, we slowed down to take in the views and sights around…
Next, there was a condiments trolley that rolled right to our table. We then started pointing to the sauces and ingredients that we wanted in our personalised dip. The resultant dip turned out really shiok. You can choose from sesame sauce, seafood sauce, a little chili padi, sesame oil, loads of garlic and green onions and a douse of soy sauce. Perfect.
While sipping on our draft beers (yes, they’re available here too) and enjoying the sea views, the ingredients arrived…
For soup, we chose one mala and one chicken. You can get unlimited top up – though we think that the soup is ok only. We were then shown how to control the heat on our individual hot pots. Which was so much easier than many other hot pot controls up there. On/off and increase/decrease heat. Simple.
While our hot pots were being heated up, we continued to take in the sights. One of the best experiences of alfresco hot pot dining at sea…
We spent about 1hr 45mins at Genting World Dream’s Hot Pot Restaurant and we thoroughly enjoyed the experience. Admittedly, it was a little steep and the soup was quite meh-ish. However, the dipping sauce was great and the ingredients were soooo fresh! The fish slices were firmed and sweet. Likewise the meats were thin yet generous in its portions. Coupled with the generous servings of vegetables and the amazing sea views, the CP value was quite ok. Just that, you know, usually you’d end the meal with rich spoonfuls of the broth? The soup was really not there and we probably won’t do it again. However, for a one-time experience? A definite yes! Check out the size and firmness of this prawn! 😋
Unlike Royal Caribbean Cruises, you can only choose to visit one dining venue for Dream Cruises during each meal. As we dined at the Specialty Restaurant (Hot Pot), we didn’t want to “waste” the opportunity to visit the Lido for a lunch/dinner meal. Otherwise, we would not have other opportunities to do so. Hence, we took a short walk to the Bridge Viewing Room at Deck 15 before returning to the Lido at Deck 16…
Bridge Viewing Room
Unfortunately, the blinds were drawn down and we were not able to see the bridge itself. Probably for navigational safety. Nonetheless, we were able to see who were our Captains and first officers onboard. The name of our Captain looked familiar and he was formerly on Star Cruise before. 🧐
The Lido Buffet Restaurant
As we were pretty full already, we grabbed pint of draft beer to go with the roast beef. As we were quite late, there were not many people at the queues. Hence, we were able to choose all the fatty bits to pair with our beer! Yum!
To round up the dinner, we had different slices of cakes with latte. Only the red velvet was good. The rest was ooook only. After a hearty meal, we retired back to our room and finished watching Onward. Which, was a really good cartoon. Plus, movies on demand are complimentary on Dream Cruise. A perk compared to Royal Caribbean Cruise.

Hey, the image of the dream daily is blurry, were the magic and faith shows available on day 2 as well?
Hi Einat,
No, they were only available on the 1st and 3rd day. 2nd day were the singing performances. Have updated the day’s programme to a higher resolution. Hope this helps. The remaining sheets are not updated as it affects speed of page load. Hope you’ll understand.
