Cruise to nowhere is probably one of the few choices these days for Singaporeans to go “overseas”. This time, we did a 5D4N cruise to nowhere aboard the Quantum of the Seas by Royal Caribbean Cruise and we actually got to scan our passport to cross immigrations – after more than a year!

Is Cruise to Nowhere with Quantum of the Seas safe?
One of the first few questions that you may ask is whether doing a cruise to nowhere with Quantum of the Seas is actually safe. Afterall, when the pandemic first started, there were many cruises that had outbreaks aboard and had difficulties finding a home port to sail to. A year on, these concerns are put to rest with the Safe Management Measures that the Singapore government has put in place, as well as the measures that Royal Caribbean Cruise has implemented with its Royal Promise campaign…
The Royal Promise includes measures such as swab tests for all (pre-cruise only as post-cruise is no longer required after 19 February 2021), 50% limited capacity, medical grade cleaning standards as well as COVID-19 protections. Onboard, there are sanitisers everywhere and you’ll be required to “tap-in / tap-out” as in enter different designated zones aboard the ship. Lastly, you’ll also be required to wear the tracelet provided by Royal Caribbean Cruise as well as Singapore’s Trace Together (App or Token) everywhere you go aboard.
Won’t a Cruise to Nowhere on Quantum of the Seas be very Sian (Boring)?
A resounding no! There are simply too many things to do aboard. The bigger question is whether you have time to do them all…
Complimentary Activities
FlowRider
FlowRider is located at Seaplex, deck 15 at the aft of the ship. You’ll have to register and sign an indemnity form before waiting in line for your turn. As they’re not opened throughout the day, remember to check out the Royal App for the opening hours of FlowRider.
Rock Climbing
Similar to FlowRider, just head on over to the Seaplex at Deck 15 (Flowrider and Rock Climbing is right next to each other) and wait in line for your turn to scale the walls!
Bumper Cars
Using the Royal App, you’ll be able to book your desired slots for bumper cars. The slots come in 15 minutes block so you’ll be able to enjoy as many times as you wish during these blocks that you book. Entry is only allowed with bookings via Royal App which means that queuing is not allowed.
For the rest of the Seaplex activities such as gaming consoles and fussball tables, you’ll have to book them physically at Seaplex itself.
Swimming
There are several swimming venues throughout the ship. There’s an indoor pool, an outdoor pool and our favourite venue, the Solarium. There, you’ll be able to enjoy hot tubs, cool indoor pools with amazing views out to sea!
Gym
Gym aboard Quantum of the Seas is one of the best we’ve seen so far. Not only does it have the latest, state-of-the-art gym equipment, it also allows you to have unparalleled sea views while you’re keeping fit! Remember to pre-book your slots on the cruise planner (online NOT Royal App) prior to the cruise!
Organised Activities
In addition to trivias, dance classes and game shows, there are also “hands-on” activities such as towel folding, napkin folding and making of pop-up cards!
Headliner Shows
There were 4 headliner shows during our cruise to nowhere with Quantum of the Seas. This includes Gold Art Duo, The BeatleManiacs, Starwater and Sequins and Feathers…
Around the ship, there are also other musical performances on the piano, drums, bands and our favourite – the Accolade Duo (Violinist Victoria Stryzhak and Guitarist Anna)
Paid Activities
Ripcord by iFly
Ripcord by iFly is a paid activity and it costs $54.40 per person. The entire duration takes about an hour, including safety instructions and what you need to do while you’re in the wind tunnel. The actual flight duration itself is only 1 minute but it gives you enough time to experience how it’s like to do skydiving. Also, it is slightly cheaper than what you’d pay at Sentosa, so if you’ve always wanted to give it a go, try it on Quantum of the Seas – Ripcord by iFly. You’ll be able to read more about our Ripcord by iFly experience aboard Quantum of the Seas here.
North Star is an observatory onboard the Quantum of the Seas that brings you up to a height and rotates to the port and starboard side of the ship. It used to be a complimentary activity but post-COVID, it now costs $27.20 per person. Nonetheless, with the limited capacity aboard, you might just be lucky and have the entire capsule to yourself. You’ll be able to read more about our North Star experience aboard Quantum of the Seas here.

How’s the FOOD aboard the Quantum of the Seas?
Complimentary Dining Venue
Windjammer
Windjammer is probably our favourite venue for complimentary dining at the aft of Deck 14. Not only does it still serve buffet style food (except that there’s a staff taking it for you instead of you tucking into the food yourself), it also offers the best outdoor dining experience aboard!
Main Dining Room
Located at Deck 3 and 4, Main Dining Rooms such as American Icon Grill and Silk Restaurant, all serve up the same menu. The only difference is the interior deco within. Remember to head over early to snag one of the lovely window seats!
Cafe Two70
Cafe Two70 is a smaller venue (aft of deck 4) where you’ll be able to get sandwiches and soups. It was unfortunate that Two70 Theatre was having rehearsals. Else, it would have been great to have enjoyed meals and views from Two70. Let us know if you were able to experience dining in Two70 Theatre in our comments section below!
Solarium Bistro
Solarium Bistro is another smaller venue (within the Solarium on Deck 14) that offers healthier options aboard. We didn’t really enjoy it here as the selection was rather limited and when requested, they would have to get our orders from the other main restaurants as well. So if you’re not too conscious about food choices (especially on a cruise), you can probably give Solarium Bistro a miss.
Cafe Promenade and Sorrento’s Pizza
Cafe Promenade is where you’ll be able to enjoy complimentary coffee, tea and water throughout the day. The same entrance also leads you to Sorrento’s, the best thin crust pizza ever! No kidding! Even the staff were telling us that the pizzas that they’ve tried ashore, does not taste as good as Sorrento’s – this we tend to agree!
Seaplex Dog House
Another great venue that is opened round the clock is SeaPlex Dog House. We LOOOOVE the Smoke House hot dog! Probably one of the best we’ve tasted in a long long time. The only downside is that there aren’t any seating options within due to the ongoing COVID measures and outdoors, it tends to be a little windy. Great place for round the clock hot dogs nonetheless!
Paid Dining Options
During our cruise to nowhere with Quantum of the Seas, we decided to purchase the Unlimited Dining Package (UDP) that allows unlimited access to Specialty Dining Restaurants during meal times aboard! Also, because of the “cruise to nowhere”, Specialty Dining Restaurants which are usually only open for lunch during sea days, are now open every day! This makes the package even more enticing! We paid $135 SGD per person for the package and we enjoyed a total of 10 meals. This works out to $13.5 SGD per meal for these dining options…
Wonderland
Wonderland was one of the reasons why we took up the Unlimited Dining Package. This is because a meal at Wonderland already costs close to $70 SGD! Paying an additional $65 to access the remaining Specialty Dining Restaurants, made sense. At Wonderland, we were able to enjoy many creative cuisine such as Tomato Water, Crispy Crab Cone as well as the famous Chocolate Ball. Check them out in this video coverage of our Unlimited Dining Package Review at all the Specialty Dining Restaurants aboard Quantum of the Seas!
Jamie’s Italian by Jamie Oliver
Jamie’s Italian is definitely our favourite Specialty Dining Restaurant aboard the Quantum of the Seas! There are some amazing appetizers (Ultimate Garlic Bread) and great mains (JI Burger, Double patty JI Burger – specially ordered) but the best thing about dining at Jamie’s is the desserts! If you take a look at the comparison between the MDR (Main Dining Room)’s tiramisu and that at Jamie’s, you’ll see the difference…
Izumi Japanese Restaurant
Izumi is a Japanese Restaurant aboard Quantum of the Seas. Although it serves up sashimi, we’ve been warned by several blogs and forums out there that their “frozen” sashimi was not really good – this fact was verified. Not good at all. Nonetheless, their signature sushi rolls and poke bowl was amazing! For appetizers, we enjoyed the gyoza as well as anything with green tea ice cream for desserts.
Chops Grille
Rounding up the Specialty Dining Restaurants on Quantum of the Seas is Chops Grille – where you’ll get the best steaks onboard! You definitely have to try the 16oz prime bone-in ribeye, a steak that we enjoyed twice! As for appetizers, we enjoyed the Wild Mushroom soup, the white truffle oil and chunky mushrooms came together in a beautiful foodie melody! Yum!
If you’d like to orientate yourself to all the Specialty Dining Restaurants on Quantum of the Seas, check out this video and you’ll know exactly where to go next…
The Dream Meal on Quantum of the Seas
If we could combine all the best parts of the various Specialty Dining Restaurants aboard Quantum of the Seas, this would how a “Dream Meal” would look like for us…
Pre-Appetizers (cause these appetizers from Wonderland are really light):
Tomato Water, Crispy Crab Cones (Wonderland)
Lobster with bone marrow and caviar (Wonderland)
Appetizers
Wild Mushroom Soup (Chops Grille)
Ultimate Garlic Bread (Jamie’s Italian)
Pork Gyoza Dumpling (Izumi)
Classic Caesar Salad (Jamie’s Italian – just for the fibre)
Pasta
Truffle Tagliatelle (Jamie’s Italian)
Lasagne (Jamie’s Italian)
Mains
16oz Prime Bone-In Ribeye (Chops Grille)
Double Patty JI Burger with extra cheese (Jamie’s Italian)
Desserts
Classic Tiramisu (Jamie’s Italian)
Epic Brownie (Jamie’s Italian)

What else do I need to know before a Cruise to Nowhere on Quantum of the Seas?
We’ve pretty much outlined everything in our post on important pre-cruise preparations for cruise to nowhere with Quantum of the Seas. Inside, we talked about how to get the best prices for the cruise, trying for upgrades through the Royal Up programme as well as other tips before you go for your cruise to nowhere.
The other important thing you’ll need to do is to be able to book all the slots once you’re onboard – this we showed in our post on day 1 of our 5D4N cruise to nowhere on Royal Caribbean’s Quantum of the Seas. Inside, we talked about how we got onboard early and how to plan in order to grab the dining and show slots – FAST.
Lastly, due to the ongoing pandemic, water coolers are not available. Hence, if you’re not on the refreshment package, you’ll only be able to top up water at venues such as Cafe Promenade or the MDRs. However, with the refreshment package, you’ll not only be able to get premium waters, you’ll also enjoy gourmet coffee, tea, freshly-squeezed orange, mocktails and soft drinks, all around the ship! Our favourite was definitely having the various cool drinks from La Patisserie…

Hi Tom,
Thank you for sharing the very detailed reviews and tips on RC Quantum of the Seas. I loved reading it while jotting down useful tips for my upcoming cruise to nowhere. I read that you did not purchase the Voom or Voom+Surf package. May I ask how do you navigate thru your Royal App or cruise planner? and also, by any chance you have any experience or hear-say on the speed of Voom internet (ie possible to view FB or insta stories?) or only the Voom+Surf package can do the job. Your kind tip will be very much appreciated. cheers
Hi Desmond,
You will have to download the Royal App before the cruise. Once onboard, you’ll be able to find the “Wifi_Quantum_Guest” wifi to use the Royal App onboard. You can read more from the start of our cruise to find out more…

As for Voom, we do not have experience but according to their website, social seems to work better with Voom Surf + Stream
https://www.royalcaribbean.com/content/dam/royal/special-mkgt/voom/voom-cruise-wifi-brochure.pdf
Otherwise, why not use this opportunity to disconnect and reconnect with your loved ones and/or friends during the trip?
Have an enjoyable cruise ahead Desmond!

Hello Tom,
Appreciate your detailed write up about the RC cruise experience.
I am dying to find out did you book through official website or engage travel agents?
What are your recommendations?
Hi Bryan,
We booked through the official website. It allowed us to make bookings for gym sessions, unlimited dining package, iFly, North Star etc. directly. Booking directly allowed us to choose the slots that we want, first hand. Also, it’s usually better to deal directly with RC, especially when you notice a drop in cruise prices. We called in a couple of times and managed to get some refunds in this way as well!
Have fun in your next cruise to nowhere!
Tom & Kate,
