Da Nang Travel Itinerary Day 6: Listening to God’s Word at Da Nang International Fellowship and Lunch at Brilliant Seafood Da Nang

On day 6 of our travels in Da Nang, we included a visit to Da Nang International Fellowship in our Da Nang Travel Itinerary. As it was a Sunday, it gave us an opportunity to visit a local church in Vietnam to see how it was like over there. We woke up at about 5am as it was rather bright outside…

We were surprised that our stretch of the beach (Man Thai Beach) was lit up in the evenings. We also noticed that the basket boats were lined up along the beach as well. While observing the surroundings, we also caught a glimpse of the surroundings at dawn…

Before long, it was sunrise and we could see the local fishermen heading out to their nets to pull in their haul for the day

For the next few days, we saw these fishermen going out daily, without fail, to haul in their catch. It was also rather cool to see how they were able to paddle so easily to move the basket boat forward. Interestingly, they would also ride the wave, just like surfers, as they approached the shore line. This greatly reduced their paddle time as well.

Next up, breakfast!

For breakfast at Seashore Hotel Apartment Da Nang, there’s a good selection including salads, fruits, breads, noodles, coffee/tea and fruits. However, to be honest, the taste of the noodles and cooked food, was not that great. Hence, we’d recommend going with the breads, spread and fruits. Which were more than enough to keep us full for the day.

Thereafter, an hour’s stroll to Da Nang International Fellowship. Prior to that, we stopped by a local coffee joint for iced coffee (15k VND – 90 cents per cup)

Experience at Da Nang International Fellowship

The message we learnt this morning was about being “Overwhelmed“. Some of the verses mentioned this morning includes…

Psalm 34:18
The Lord is close to the brokenhearted
and saves those who are crushed in spirit.

Psalm 61:2
From the ends of the earth I call to you,
I call as my heart grows faint;
lead me to the rock that is higher than I.

Psalm 42:5
Why, my soul, are you downcast?
Why so disturbed within me?
Put your hope in God,
for I will yet praise him,
my Savior and my God.

Psalm 150
1 Praise the Lord.
Praise God in his sanctuary;
praise him in his mighty heavens.
2 Praise him for his acts of power;
praise him for his surpassing greatness.
3 Praise him with the sounding of the trumpet,
praise him with the harp and lyre,
4 praise him with timbrel and dancing,
praise him with the strings and pipe,
5 praise him with the clash of cymbals,
praise him with resounding cymbals.
6 Let everything that has breath praise the Lord.
Praise the Lord.

Thank the Lord for the words because on Saturday (the day before the message), Tom told Kate that he was “overwhelmed” and the message covered the exact topic! Moreover, we were also concerned about whether we would know the songs being sung here. As we listen to Klove often, we were recently introduced to the song – Way Maker

As it turned out, the first song was Way Maker! Felt as though the Lord was speaking through us this day…

After the message, we passed by a souvenir store nearby…

Though we didn’t buy any snacks this time round, we saw several snacks such as sesame cakes, fish sauce, chili sauce and loads of birds nest related items. Soon it was time for lunch!

As it was the 2nd day of the Lunar New Year, not many restaurants were open. Of those that did, we were attracted by the al fresco dining atmosphere of Brilliant Seafood. However, the dining experience was not that great.

First of all, we were told that there was only seafood and beef available. No chicken nor pork. Hence, we had no choice but to order the fried rice (100k VND – $6 SGD), beef broccoli (250k VND – $15 SGD), squid (500k VND – $30 SGD) and 2 beers (50k VND – $3 SGD)…

Secondly, we ordered draft beer. But was served canned beer. When we said that we ordered draft beer, we told by the manager that they had only canned beer. Then later on, the lady who served us the canned beer, brought back 2 draft beers, only to learn that we had accepted the canned beer option…

Thirdly, we ordered the beef broccoli but were brought stir fried beef. The manager even insisted that we ordered stir-fried beef even when we pointed to the picture and he repeated our order in Mandarin. So it was quite sad that the service here was rather disappointing – lacking integrity to a certain extent. Nonetheless, the pricing was still acceptable and the squid was actually rather good. Fresh, succulent with crunch on the bite. Just that the service, marred the overall experience…
