On day 2 of our travels, we decided to take it down a notch and chill. In fact, the entire day revolved around our 2 treatments at La Luna Spa. Back in Singapore, we were busy googling to find a spa in Hoi An with modern decorations and affordable prices. This, we found at La Luna Spa.
As the day began, as we were staying at NGO House Villa in Hoi An, breakfast was included. So we headed across the road where breakfast was served at another villa and had…
As the price of staying at NGO House Villa in Hoi An was already so low (about $30SGD), we didn’t think that breakfast would be decent. The noodles were rather good and there were even fruits and a little dessert (pancake with jam!), along with Vietnamese coffee. Shiok.
La Luna Spa Hoi An Review
La Luna Spa was about a 15 minutes walk away. We were actually very pleased to see the exterior and interior deco of La Luna Spa. Modern, with a tinge of blend of local Hoi An flavours. Before we arrived in La Luna Spa, Kate had already made reservations from 10am to 12pm for our first massage as well as our afternoon facial at 3pm. According to the website, we were supposed to be given 30% discount but the initial bill only came with a 20% discount. Nonetheless, the staff was very accommodating and immediately checked and changed our discount. While we sipped on this…
Also, tip was included in the price (23k VND – $1.5SGD) per half hour. Hence, our bill for our 2 hours massage came up to 1.44M (~90SGD) or about $45 pax per person.
We were deciding between the first three massage options
1. La Luna’s Celebration (90’/120′ – VND 830K/970K – USD 36/42)
Let’s celebrate your body, give yourself a treat through the best combination of palm massage, acupressure, cracking and using elbow to reach deep tissue. This is a La Luna’s signature treatment, specially designed to evoke deep relaxation.
2. Connection (60’/90’/120′ – VND 600K, 760K, 900K – USD 26/33/39)
Realign the connection between body, mind and soul by gentle soothing massage technique. Our therapist will focus on un-knotting muscle tensions, soothe aches and encourage skin to glow. This is suitable for after long flights, helps you relax, sleep better and deeper.
3. Sensation (90’/120′ – VND 760K/900K – USD 33/39)
Reawaken your senses by the gentle hot stone sensation. This is a full body oil massage with combination of palms and using hot stones to help melt away muscle tension, ease stress.
Eventually, we chose the hot stone massage because from experience, it seemed that only Vietnamese (and of course atas (“high class”) hotels) does hot stone massages well…
We started with a nice, warm foot bath before the treatment began. We were thankful that we eventually chose the hot stone massage because the masseuse were so professional! No uncomfortably hot interactions with the hot stones because the masseuse would aid “homeostasis” by adding heat bit by bit through her palms before eventually using the stones. Our masseuse also deployed long flowing strokes which pretty soon, led us to dream land. Yes, we drooled a little. The only gripe was that the music was put on repeat. Exact same song over and over again. Although it was soothing song, a suite of different soothing music would have aided the overall experience. Still, for the price and the skill level of our masseuse, it was considered excellent.
After our treatment, we were surprised to be served the La Luna Vietnamese High Tea Menu. It included 12 different Vietnamese traditional snacks and 2 different types of tea. Retailing at VND 300K (~$20SGD), we were pleasantly surprised by this gesture. Later on, we found out that La Luna Spa was only opened for about a month. Probably a form of marketing and publicity for La Luna Spa. It also mentioned that through this high tea, La Luna Spa also supports the local community and artisans. Cool.
Pure Coffee Hoi An Review
For “lunch”, we arrived at Pure Coffee to try out a couple of its famous drinks. In fact, these drinks are “must-try” when you’re in the Danang/Hoi An region…
First up, Egg Coffee (55K VND – $3.3 SGD). This was the one drink that Tom wanted to try after seeing the rich texture of this drink on one of the travel documentaries. On each taste, the sweet creamy “egg nog” like taste would fill your palates while the aroma of the coffee comes after.
The only gripe was that the Egg Coffee only remained nice while it was warm. The cup holder should have included a candle to keep the drink warm but it was missing this time. Nonetheless, the person who invented this drink was a genius. Who knew that egg and coffee could go together? Yum.
For Kate, she really wanted to try the Coconut Coffee (55K VND – $3.3 SGD). Coconut X Coffee – what’s not to like about it right? The rendition at Pure Coffee was pure bliss. The coconut taste was not watered-down, instead it was aromatic and nicely complemented the espresso poured over it. Nice.
To round up the “lunch”, we had a rather expensive Banh Mi (VND 75K – 4.5SGD). Decent but nothing to shout about.
As for the interior deco, the lanterns stood out. We also missed out on taking the outer deco and rounded back in the evening to take another shot of Pure Coffee from the outside…
As we still had a little time before our afternoon facial back at La Luna Spa at 3pm, we strolled around Hoi An Old Town to capture some day shots…
We arrived back at 3pm for our facial. The total cost was 832K VND (~$50SGD) for 2 pax. This works out to be about $25 per person for a 1-hour treatment. The experience was not too bad. Uplifting and circular strokes ensures that we never age right? 😛 The only downside was that the products used were not mentioned though we knew that there was cleansing, exfoliating, toning and moisturising involved. Decent but we probably won’t try it again if we returned. But the stone massage? A resounding yes! At the end of our 2nd treatment, a light snack was offered as well – which we enjoyed while the gentle breeze came in…
Hotel Royal Hoi An Rooftop Bar for Sunsets
For sunset, we checked out The Deck at Hotel Royal Hoi An…
The rooftop bar of Hotel Royal Hoi An enjoys views of the entire Hoi An Old Town and its surrounding. In the mornings, you’ll be able to see sunrise from the east and the evenings, sunset in the west. We arrived slightly before 6pm and missed the one-for-one happy hour. But thankfully, we were given half price for the Magner Berries beer that we ordered…
Our cocktail came with a punch and together with the Magner Berries beer, came up to 190k VND (~11 SGD). Not too bad given the views from the rooftop bar. We were able to see the river channels that led to Hoi An old town. Of course, the sunset was beautiful as well…
We’ll definitely recommend heading to Hotel Royal Hoi An‘s The Deck Rooftop Bar for some pre-dinner drinks and catch the amazing sunset before heading out for dinner.

For dinner, we had street BBQ at one of the many stalls next to the river. Shared a table with a local couple…
This time, we ordered pork (120K – $7.2SGD), noodles (35K – $2SGD) and 2 beers (70k – $4SGD). The BBQ taste was not bad and you know that the food is freshly BBQed over charcoal as we can see the entire process. But sometimes, we also saw too much. After our food was served (thankfully), we saw that the lady dropped a piece of meat on the floor, a rather large piece. She looked at it took it away from the BBQ. We thought she was going to throw it away BUT ALAS! She placed it back to the raw stash or meat! Well, that’s street food for you.
The other thing we noticed was that whatever meat we ordered (chicken, pork or beef), it came from the same stash of marinated meat. So eventhough we ordered beef noodles and BBQ pork, we only tasted pork. Nonetheless, it was still an experience to have sat on one of the low seats, have street BBQ food along the river of Hoi An.
To round off the evening, we headed to Hoi An Roastery to chill out before heading back…
There are many “Hoi An Roastery” in Hoi An. It’s like the Starbucks of Hoi An. But seriously, the coffee was bland and nothing like what we had at Pure Coffee. The only plus point was that the ambience was quite chill and the large exterior windows allows for people watching as we wounded down the evening.

Somehow, our hunger rekindled as we walked back to our villa. Hence, we ordered a chicken pizza (169K – $10SGD) from Hong Phuc 2 restaurant before returning back to watch the UFO week on History Channel…
