Dixie Browns Restaurant reminded us of dining at a proper restaurant in France or US where the Maitre d’ would show you to your seats before your table waiter comes around to take your order. After we were shown to our table, as it was busy during the lunch peak hours, the waiter took a while before coming over to take our orders. During which we took our time to browse through the menu…

Dixie Browns Taupo Restaurant Lunch Menu (Sandwiches, Light Lunches, Gourmet Pizza)

After looking through the menu at Dixie Browns Taupo, we ordered

1. Hawkes Bay Crushed Peach Bomb ($12.50)
2. Peanut Butter Milkshake ($9.90)
3. Sirloin Steak ($38.5). Aged grass fed beef, served with your choice of mushroom or pepper sauce (we chose mushroom), seasoned fries, onion rings and a fried egg
4. Lamb Shank ($29.90). Tender lamb in a rich cranberry and rosemary jus served on garlic and onion potato mash.

Dixie Browns Restaurant Taupo Hawkes Bay Crushed Peach Bomb ($12.50)

Before long, our drinks came along and they tasted great. The Peanut Butter Milk Shake was thick, rich and creamy like how we had imagined it. No scrimping on any ingredients whatsoever. Excellent old school milk shake. As for the Hawkes Bay Crushed Peach Bomb, it came out to be slightly cloudy but was refreshing and delicious, much like a cider that we had at Hanoi Cider. At this point, we’ve got to say that the service was a little slow as we waited a while more before our mains arrived. But boy, it was worth the wait…

Dixie Browns Taupo Restaurant Sirloin Steak with Mushroom Sauce Review ($38.5)

First up, the Sirloin Steak with Mushroom Sauce ($38.50). As you can see from the photo, it was a really hearty meal. The steak itself was thick and the sides were rather generous as well. What you may not be able to see was how juicy the meat really was. It was meaty, chunky yet moist within. An excellent steak to start off our holidays in New Zealand! 😋

Dixie Browns Taupo Restaurant Lamb Shank ($29.90) Review

Next, the Lamb Shank ($29.90). We must say that the Lamb Shank was indeed delicious. Tender with a tad of gamey taste. The brown sauce was a good accompaniment though slightly saltish. Again, the portion was generous and the garlic and onion mashed potato was excellent. If you’re hungry and hitting the restaurant, the Lamb Shank won’t disappoint.

Our total bill came up to $90.80 and the prices stated was already inclusive of taxes. Since the exchange rate was in our favour (0.85 SGD to 1 NZD), it was reasonably priced for an excellent meal. Besides the longer wait time, we must say that Dixie Browns had served up great tasting meats and drinks for an excellent start to a wonderful trip at Taupo!
