DoubleTree Resort Hilton Penang was our 2nd hotel during this visit to Penang. Having travelled to Batu Ferringhi, visiting hotels such as Rasa Sayang Resort & Spa Penang as well as Hard Rock Hotel Penang, we wanted to experience the offerings at DoubleTree Resort Hilton Penang and find out more about this stretch along Batu Ferringhi…

About DoubleTree Resort Hilton Penang
After our stay at Armenian Street Heritage Hotel, DoubleTree Resort Hilton Penang was our next hotel during this 7 days travel in Penang…
Upon arrival, we were greeted by a spacious lobby as well as a bear mascot – probably representative of TeddyVille Museum @ Batu Ferringhi, located within the hotel’s premise…
The check-in process was relatively smooth while the staff was polite and attentive. As part of DoubleTree Resort Hilton Penang’s offerings, we were also given its signature chocolate chip cookies which we enjoyed by the pool. But first, off to our room at DoubleTree Resort Hilton Penang…

DoubleTree Resort Hilton Penang King Deluxe Room Review
We stayed at the King Deluxe Room of DoubleTree Resort Hilton Penang. The room was pretty spacious and most importantly, very clean. No signs of insects inside the room. Although we didn’t get the King Deluxe Sea View Balcony Room, we still had some sea views from one corner of our room…
From these photos, you may also see that DoubleTree Resort Hilton Penang doesn’t have direct access to the beach. You will have to cross a bridge to get to the beach. So while some rooms have excellent sea views, the beach itself is actually separated from the beach by Jalan Batu Ferringhi. After checking out our room, we were ready to have a splashing good time at the swimming pool of DoubleTree Resort Hilton Penang!

Swimming Pool
The swimming pool of DoubleTree Resort Penang was probably our favourite hangout area. The swimming pool is rather large and you could have a good leisurely workout of just chill by one of the corners of the pool (which we did). Next to the swimming pool, there are cabanas, deck chairs and even a “mini beach” that was created to mimic the feel of having a beach right within the resort. Though, nothing to shout about, it was nonetheless a nice little addition to the swimming pool. Close by, there’s also a kids water playground where we enjoyed water splashes and the bucket that spills over when it is filled up to the brim. Fun times for the kids!
Back at the main swimming pool, you’ll be happy to hear that pool towels are provided. Also, you can order some drinks and chill by the deck chairs next to the pool. This time, we ordered the Tapping Tapir (Guava and Lemongrass) as well as Iced Coffee (both at 12RM) to enjoy with our signature chocolate chip coffee. At these prices, they were rather affordable for hotel pool bar pricings.
Gym
The gym of DoubleTree Hilton Penang has all the frills that a gym buff requires. You have treadmills, elliptical, free weights and even gym balls. Best of all, there’s a view out to sea as well!
Spa
There’s also a spa at DoubleTree Resort Hilton Penang. After browsing through the menu, we found the Asian Mix package to be value for money. Hotel guests enjoy a 20% discount which meant that the package came up to 352RM for a 2 hours body massage and 45 minutes facial. This translates to about $110SGD for an almost 3 hours treatment at a reputable hotel. The only problem, we then found out, was that the spa had only 1 masseuse at any point in time. If you’d like to enjoy a couple’s treatment, you would have to book way in advance. Hence, we’d strongly recommend heading to the spa to book an appointment so that you won’t be disappointed like us. If you have tried the Asian Mix package, do let us know more in the comments section below!
Shop
Next to the swimming pool, there’s a shop, creatively named as “The Shop” where you can get your barang barang such as souvenir magnets, shirts and swim wear.
Within DoubleTree Hilton Penang, there’s also a really cute teddy bear museum known as TeddyVille Museum @ Batu Ferringhi. We will cover this in detail in our next post. Guests get to enter at half the price!

Afternoon Tea at DoubleTree Resort Hilton Penang King Deluxe Room
DoubleTree Hilton Penang offers a tiered afternoon tea set. Priced at 68RM ($22SGD), the set includes canapes such as smoked duck cheese croissant, tuna puff, smoked salmon canape and apple puff. To be honest, taste wise, they were still ok. Our favourite was probably the fresh cream canape and macaron which was nutty sweet and salty. We had the chamomile tea which was refillable. If you choose the seat with sea views, you’d enjoy a nice leisurely afternoon tea here at Double Tree Resort Hilton Penang.
DoubleTree Resort Hilton Penang Makan Kitchen Breakfast
Breakfast Timings at DoubleTree Hilton Resort Penang
Due to the school holiday peak vacation periods, DoubleTree Resort Hilton Penang adopts the “traffic light” system where we indicated our preferred timing for breakfasts during check-in:
Chill Hour: 630am to 830am (“Leisurely stroll pass the food counter“)
Peak Hour: 830am to 930am (“Mild Traffic Expected. Can get congested at times.“)
Rush Hour: 930am to 1030am / 11am on weekends & public holidays (“High Traffic Expected. Bumper to Bumper Queue Likely“)
Ambience at Makan Kitchen DoubleTree Resort Hilton Penang
The seating areas within Makan Kitchen is actually quite spacious. We love the colours of the furnitures as well. There are also outdoor seatings that face the swimming pool. The only problem with those seats are that the crows are always lurking nearby to swop in on your food. So we usually choose the seats inside the restaurant.
Buffet Breakfast Offerings at DoubleTree Resort Hilton Penang Makan Kitchen
The buffet breakfast spread at DoubleTree Hilton Penang is rather extensive. There was Western cuisine of eggs, sausages and French toasts. Asian cuisine of nasi lemak, bee hoon, sambal udang and fried chicken. Indian cuisine of roti canai (prata), thosai, curries and vadai. A noodle station as well as kids corner that offers among other things, hashbrown!
What We Had at Makan Kitchen Buffet Breakfast DoubleTree Hilton Penang
Overall, the breakfast buffet at DoubleTree Hilton Penang did well in the taste department. In fact, we found the Asian and Indian Cuisine to be rather good. As we stayed for two nights, we found the offerings to be slightly different. We enjoyed the lor bak and fried chicken on day 1 while we noticed the change of nasi lemak rice to blue pea rice as well as Penang Fried Kway Teow on the menu! Also, as our second day was a weekday, the crowd was noticeably lesser. Another thing we noticed was that the gourmet coffee of latte was pretty good, probably due to the quality of coffee beans used. Service was excellent as well. Our plates were promptly cleared after we were done.

The other good thing about staying at DoubleTree Resort Hilton Penang is that it is still relatively close to George Town. This way, we were still able to order decent hawker food to our hotel premise with delivery prices at only $1SGD. In the evening, we also ordered supper of purple velvet swiss roll (15RM) and blueberry cheese tart (5RM) from Bread History via Grab Food (5RM).
Although we did not have a clear view of sunset from our King Deluxe Balcony Room, we did enjoy beautiful hues of the clouds in the evenings. There’s another perk of staying at DoubleTree Hilton Penang, that is, a visit to Miami Cafe – a restaurant right next to the beach. Check out our subsequent posts to find out more.
