Fork and Brewer was where we headed to for our continuation of the craft beer scene in Wellington. Having visited Heyday Beer Co, we found Fork and Brewer to be a larger, full-scale restaurant with much more beers and food on offer…
About Fork and Brewer Wellington
Fork and Brewer was started in 2011, in time for the 2011 Rugby World Cup. However, beers are only started to be built on-site a year later. One of the main challenges that Fork and Brewer faced was the location of the brewing equipment on the second story, especially in the aftermath of the Christ Church earthquake in the same year. Although it was challenging at first, everything worked out well and this how Fork and Brew looks like today…
Besides the entrance on the first floor (the one with teal green and royal gold that Kate likes), the second story is spacious with a casual ambience. Located in the centre is where the taps are located…
There are also window seats that allow guests to dine while having views of the streets below…
What We Had at Fork and Brewer Wellington
After going through the Fork and Brewer Menu, we decided on the Cocoa Chocolate Milk Stout ($12.5) which is a collaboration with Wellington Chocolate as well as the NZGA (New Zealand Grape Ale) #2 with Sauvignon Blanc ($11) which is a collaboration with Fairmont Estate. No. 1 is the Chardonnay Brut IPA, No. 2 is the Sauvignon Blanc Brut IPA while No.3 is the Chardonnay Double IPA.
We decided to go with these beers because they were unique collaborations with famous local brands – and they turned out to be excellent choices. The Cocoa Chocolate Milk Stout which collaborated with Wellington Chocolate was smooth, stouty with a chocolatey milk shake taste, complete with a woody afternote. An excellent brew! As for the NZGA, we found it to be interesting. A cross between an IPA and Sauvignon Blanch white wine.
We also found interesting beer names all around Fork and Brewer, such as Guns and Goses, complete with bespoke posters that made the dining experience that much more interesting.
The interesting and unique aspect of Fork and Brewer even extends to the toilet where you’ll find sinks supported by wine barrels!

Fork and Brewer Wellington provided us with a nice rest stop during the light rain that we encountered at Wellington this day. Best of all, we tasted unique and delicious tasting beers that tells us that innovation for craft beers can be endless. After tasting a chocolatey stout and a wine-based IPA – we’re definitely curious to find more delicious tasting beers during our next visit to Fork and Brewer in the future!
