Day 12 was our last “full day” of travels in Greece. 🙁 This morning, we woke up at 7am and headed to the bakery by the port to have breakfast. This time, we had a chocolate donut (2 euros), chicken pie (2.8 euros) and a relatively-expensive-by-Greek-standards latte (3 euros)…
The Church of 100 Doors – Paros Island Greece
We also took a short walk around the Church of 100 Doors (aka Panagia Ekatontapiliani), the most famous attraction on the island of Paros…
However, the church actually does not have that many doors. So why the name? Some people think that it could have been derived from an earlier name “Katapoliani” (meaning Lower Town Church) due to its location by the sea.
Blue Star Ferries Business Lounge from Paros to Athens
After doing some shopping at the local supermarket (25 euros worth of goods), we headed to the port to embark on our Blue Star Ferries ride from Paros to Athens. On this last ferry ride, we decided to “splurge” and check out the business lounge of Blue Star Ferries…
There are several pros of travelling in the business lounge seats of Blue Star Ferries. Firstly, the seats are much more comfortable and you’ll have more leg room. There are seats and sofas within the business lounge, just pick one that you like. Secondly, as a passenger in the business lounge, you’ll just have to inform your waiter of your orders and they’ll be brought to you! Thirdly, seats at the bow of the ship offers great views. As we entered into the port of Piraeus in Athens, we were able to see first hand how the ship navigates the narrow water channels to bring us back safely to Athens.
The ferry from Paros to Athens took about 4 hours and we thought that it was quite worthwhile to try out the business class seats as an experience…
We departed Paros at 11am and arrived in Athens (Piraeus Port) at about 3pm. Once we arrived, we made a wrong turn as we thought that there would be another exit closer to the metro. However, there was none. As a result, we had to walk back the 100 metres that we walked. The metro is actually just a 2 minutes walk away from Piraeus Port. After we crossed the road, we turned left and headed towards the train station. There, we had to queue for a little while (due to the number of passengers alighting) before we bought our tickets for 1.4 euros each.
Spending our last night of Greece Travels in Athens
We actually booked our last night at a hostel called SleepEasy. As we were literally just sleeping for a night before our flight the next morning, we decided to just have a bed for the both of us for 35USD. However, as we found out, there were a couple of cons of checking into this hostel…
Firstly, the entrance to Sleepeasy was rather hard to find. The shop owner next door, saw that we were carrying our backpacks, pointed us to the entrance to Sleepeasy. Secondly, there isn’t a reception, just the manager of the premise. So we had to buzz one of the units in the building and hope that someone would let us in. Someone did. Thirdly, the booking didn’t say which level Sleepeasy was located on. So we weren’t sure which level to head to. Nonetheless, we ventured to level 8 and that was where we met the cleaning lady. A couple from Germany then helped us to communicate with the cleaning lady who later called the property manager – it was then that we got shown to our room on level 3. Fourthly, there are 3 keys (2 main doors and own door) plus a pin for the common area that you’d have to remember. With all these considerations, we probably would have considered a hotel in Athens elsewhere. Nonetheless, the price was still relatively hard to beat…
To end off our last evening in Greece, we headed to Monastiraki where we visited the MS Roof Garden (One of the many Rooftop Bar at Monastiraki). This time, we had the Blooming Cocktail (10 euros), a sweet wine (5 euros) as well as the Club Sandwich (7.5 euros). Of course, the highlight was views of Acropolis from here…
The views were indeed amazing and we were glad to have ended our 12 days of Greece Travels on such a great note – great food and drinks with Acropolis in the distance. Shiok!
In the evening, we got back to the hostel and met up with the manager to pay him the 34 euros for the night. Next morning, we woke up at 6am and took the 7:04 metro train from Monastiraki to the airport. Do note that the airport train comes only once every half hour – look out at the signboard that says that its heading to the airport. Also, the metro tickets to the aiport was more expensive, at 10 euros (compared to 6 euros bus ride from Syntagma Square), though it was slightly faster.
We reached the airport at 8am but as Scoot departed from the Satellite Airport, we were not able to access the Athens Lounges before we left. Nonetheless, we were still able to do some last minute shopping such as olives and cookies. We also had coffee at Starbucks (5.4 euros) and Caesar Chicken Sandwich (4.9) as well as 3 bottles of 800ml water (2.5 euros). The water was a good “investment” as water aboard Scoot flights were quite pricey…

We thoroughly enjoyed the entire trip to Greece. Finally got to check out the “cradle of Western civilisation” Acropolis and did the Greek island hopping itinerary. Food was fresh and delish while wines from volcanic soil had a robust fragrance. All in all, we’re thankful for a smooth and fruitful visit.
We hope that you too have enjoyed this series of posts on our travels to Greece. Stay tuned as we list out the Things to do and Attractions at the various cities and islands that we’ve visited!
