Greece Travel Itinerary Day 7: Ferry from Santorini to Naxos and Chilling the ENTIRE DAY at St. George Beach

Kate at Naxos' St. George Beach

The next island we visited during our Greece travels was Naxos. Kate chose this island because it was less touristy, yet big enough for us to explore on wheels. Having settled the chaos of ferry cancellation due to a strike yesterday, we were transported to the ferry terminal at 5:30am, early in the morning…

The ferry was scheduled to depart at 6:45am. Thankfully, we had already printed the tickets as the Blue Star Ferry counter here only opened at 6am. As the ride from Kafieris on the Cliffs to Santorini Ferry Terminal was only about 15 minutes, we were still very early. We had a coffee (4.5 euros!) at one of the restaurants by the port and waited till 6:15am before we walked to the departure hall. Although the ferry only arrived at 6:30am, it departed on schedule at 6:45am…

About Blue Star Patmos Ferry from Santorini to Naxos

To us, the Blue Star Patmos was more like a cruise ship than just a ferry. Inside, you’d be able to find shops, restaurants, bars and cafes. Though we booked our air seats (guarantees you a seat if there are no more seats at the open deck areas), we still sat at the outdoor patio at the aft of the ship to enjoy the sea breeze and views…

During the ferry ride from Santorini to Naxos, we bought a ham and cheese pie for 2.9 euros (more ex than Athens) as we enjoyed the views through the journey. The journey from Santorini to Naxos took about 3 hours 30 minutes. When we arrived at Naxos, we were waiting patiently within the ship before the doors opened to “unleash the tourists” unto Naxos…

Relaxing Day at St. George Beach – Probably the Best Beach in Naxos

After alighting from the Blue Star Patmos at Naxos ferry terminal, it was a short walk along the coast to reach St. George Beach. Enroute, we bought a tomato pie (2.8 euros) and water (1 euro) before camping at sunbeds along the beach. The price for 2 sunbeds and 1 umbrella (in the middle) was 15 euros…for the entire day!

Besides the 1 hour that we went back to our Airbnb to check-in, we literally spent the entire day from 10am in the morning to 7pm in the evening at St. George Beach! We had draft Alpha beers (4 euros), fried potatoes (3 euros) and pasticcio (7 euros) sprinkled throughout the day while lazing in the sun and splashing in the waters…

The best part about St. George Beach is its shallow waters. You can actually walk 50 metres out the shore and still be probably at your waist level or lower. This is because there are sand spits along the coast. As the cove of St. George Beach is very well sheltered, the entire beach is very family friendly. Shallow and calm waters – perfect for Kate! 😛

As the evening came, we adjourned to catch the sunset. The sun was bright red and BIG as we approached the port area for sunset. In the evening, the road along the port becomes a walking street – a great venue for a relaxing stroll along the waters.

It was such a relaxing day out just to read, relax and chill by St. George Beach in Naxos. At night, we returned back to our hotel to watch the Women’s World Cup where USA won 2-1. USA’s first goal was superb – dummy pass, pin point cross and bullet header by Press. This was when we thought, maybe we should make a Women’s World Cup trip in the future as the quality of play was actually very high!

We hope you have enjoyed day 7 of our travels in Greece. Stay tuned as we check out more sights and sounds in Naxos in our next post!
