House of Seafood at Punggol Settlement was where we decided to try out some crabs for our anniversary celebrations. The other seafood place at Punggol Settlement is Punggol Seafood. But for crabs, House of Seafood seems to be the place to head to…

After checking in via Safe Entry, we were led to our table at the end of the restaurant. Somehow, there were flowers in the restaurant. For a moment, we thought that it could be due to the bad business environment that caused them to diversify into selling flowers. 🤔 The crab soft toys were quite cute though.
Crab Bee Hoon House of Seafood Punggol Settlement
The reason why we came to House of Seafood, was to try the crab bee hoon. The last time we had a crab bee hoon dish was a Don Signature Crab in Toa Payoh. Though it was cheap (at $25), it didn’t taste as as rich and as satisfying as the version we tried at Geylang some time ago. This time, we decided to go big with the Sri Lankan crabs.
Priced at $78/kg for Sri Lankan crabs at House of Seafood, prices have definitely rose from $60, just 3 years ago. The bee hoon crab soup itself costs $5. The waitress also asked whether we wanted the female or the male Sri Lankan crab. There was no difference in price, just that the female crabs have crab roe – a delicacy that we do enjoy. Hence, we went with the female Sri Lankan crab.
To make our meal a “healthier” one, we decided to add a vegetable. Fried french beans with dried shrimp ($12)…
We were surprised by this dish. Firstly, the french bean was fresh. Crunchy and may we say…juicy on each bite. Secondly, the dried shrimp didn’t come in the traditional version. Instead, the french beans were lightly coated with dried shrimp floss. The combination of french beans coated with dried shrimp floss, made this dish refreshing, in both sense of the word. Refreshing to taste and refreshing in a different manner of presentation. Awesome!
Soon, it was time for the main event. Crab Bee Hoon Soup at House of Seafood ($110)…
At $110 and cost price of $78/kg, we knew our crab was about 1.4kg. A pretty good-sized Sri Lankan crab. Besides noticing the rich, white, creamy broth, we also noticed the crab roe. Loads of crab roe! 😋 So much so that it was floating all over the broth of the crab bee hoon and we had roe with every spoonful of bee hoon and soup. As for the soup? It was immensely satisfying. Rich and flavourful with intense taste of the crab (and roe), along with hints of sliced ginger.
The Sri Lankan crab meat from House of Seafood, was fresh! As with most crab descriptions, apt as well, it was sweet! Firm texture of the crab meat, made this entire dish so delectable. Lastly, the roe. We literally had a roe feast towards the end of the meal. 2 HUGE chunks of crab roe, almost as if another dish had emerged on this dish. Shiok!
If you’ve been to House of Seafood, you’ll also notice a silver-coloured contraption, specially designed to crack open the various parts of the crab. Use it. It really helped ease our “attacks” into the crab meat. Much better than the conventional little hand held ones in most restaurants.

All in all, our damage came up to $155 bucks (inclusive of service charge and GST). For the immensely satisfying broth that was sweetened with the intense crab meat and row, we think it was worth it. We had little crab roe “steaks” towards the end of the meal, which was rather luxurious. However, meals such as this would definitely be kept for occasions. The next we have a craving for bee hoon soup, perhaps we’ll choose a fish version, which probably won’t cost us upwards of $100 bucks. Any good fish bee hoon soup to recommend?
