After checking out the major attractions in Leh, we decided to enjoy a relaxing day in the Grand Dragon Ladakh Hotel. We did consider the arduous 7 hours journey to Pangong Lake – made famous by the Bollywood move “3 Idiots”. However, due to the higher altitude of Pangong Lake and the possibly bumpy 7 hours, we decided against it. Instead, a leisurely day in Leh awaited us…
Breakfast Buffet at the Grand Dragon Ladakh Hotel in Leh
The breakfast buffet spread at the Grand Dragon Ladakh was sumptuous with an extensive menu. Definitely a pleasant surprise. Especially for a hotel in the mountainous regions of Ladakh…
The extensive buffet spread included hot foods such as stuffed prata and curries while other sections had pastries, yoghurt, fruits, condiments (seeds and dried fruits) as well as fruit juices. We also ordered omelette (with mushroom, cheese, ham) through our waiter. Service was great and the view was amazing as well…
Besides the relaxing Disney cruise to Alaska (complete with sea views) as well as the classy breakfasts at the Raffles Hotel and the Fullerton Hotel, this was probably one of the most relaxing breakfast we’ve had in recent times.
There’s something magical about staring at the majestic beauty of the snow-capped Himalayans while sipping on a hot cup of masala chai tea and enjoying simple conversations with bearbear. Simply relaxing…
Thanks to Kate and her persistence in wanting to stay at the Grand Dragon Ladakh as well as her decision in willing to forgo Pangong Lake, we had probably one of our most enjoyable breakfasts. We then took a short walk to the gardens of the Grand Dragon Ladakh Hotel. There, we spent some time idling on the swing swing…
Life’s simple pleasures 🙂
We also had video calls with our loved ones outdoors as we shared the views and enjoyed the fresh morning air. As we were planning to head to town for a haircut, we also analysed the local map of Leh Town while we sat on the swing swing…
Carrom was our favourite activity for the day. Kate thrashed Tom, winning several games 😛
We also played pool, air hockey and watched toggle! Before we ventured into town, we asked the reception for the specific location of the barber shop. It was accurately drawn on the map and it was relatively easy to find it. However, the biggest surprise was the price of the hair cut. Our receptionist told us that it would cost 50 rupees – $1SGD! :O
Haircut at Shashi Beauty Salon Ladakh Leh Market
The walk to town was relatively tiring because there was an incline up towards Leh Market and we were still fighting the effects of altitude sickness. Thankfully, on the second day, the effects had lessened. The camphor really helped relieve the effects of altitude sickness as well…
The walk from the Grand Dragon Ladakh to Leh Market took about 15 minutes. We walked towards the end of the main street of Leh Market and made a right turn. After navigating the narrow alleyways, we finally reached the recommended barber shop – Shashi Beauty Salon (Ladakh Leh)…
When we arrived at the barber shop, the barbers were all engaged. Nonetheless, while waiting, we were introduced to the movie – Dhoom 3 (a popular Hindi movie). The highlight though was still the haircut. The hair cut was professionally executed and it also came with shoulder and facial massage! All for the price of 100 rupees! ($2 SGD) The price was probably doubled since we were “ang mou” (foreigners) to them. But $2?! For haircut and massage?! Woohoo…
Dinner at the Grand Dragon Ladakh Hotel in Leh
Dinner was served at the Zasgyath restaurant of the Grand Dragon Ladakh. To try something different, we had the Himalayan Trout…
While Kate and the burger sliders…
While the burger sliders were “meh”, the Himalayan Trout was sweet with a nicely charred BBQ flavour. Yum! Price was a little high though – $25 for the whole fish.

After dinner, we headed to the games room for more carrom before retiring for the evening. A completely relaxing day with scenic Himalayan mountain views and fresh mountainous air. Thanks for arranging this unforgettable leg of our India trip Kate! 🙂
