Recently, we did a weekday “daycation” at Jewel where we dated each other to movies, discounted weekday lunch at Jack’s place, tea break at Lavender bakery and finally a sumptuous dinner at Saap Saap Thai. We see this as a sort of “staycation” because instead of staying at a hotel which costs at least $200 bucks (not inclusive of meals), we thought that this amount could be translated into another form of “daycation” at Jewel – which, probably costs way less. Having visited Shiki Hototogisu Ramen and Birds of Paradise Botanical Gelato, we knew that there was much that Jewel could offer and this was what we did…
*On a separate occasion, we caught these shots of Rain Vortex Jewel Changi, with no water flow. These were taken during one of our early morning visits. Probably before Rain Vortex “woke” from her sleep/snooze mode.
Jack’s Place Jewel Sizzling Dine-In Deals
Jack’s place is currently running its Sizzling Dine-In Deals promotion which includes 50% off NZ Ribeye Steak and 48% off NZ Striploin Steak & Cheesy Prawn and Trio Combo (chicken, salmon, prawn). Different outlets offer different deals on different days of the week. At Jack’s Place Jewel, the deal was $12 NZ Striploin Steak and Cheesy Prawn on Wednesdays and Thursdays. $12 at Jack’s Place?! This was a deal we were not gonna miss…
Did you know that not all restaurants in Jewel have a view of the iconic Rain Vortex? Jack’s Place is one of the restaurants with a view of Rain Vortex – albeit slightly blocked at some angles by the lushes greenery. For drinks, we had plain water which was refillable at 50 cents. Soon our order of NZ Striploin Steak and Cheesy Prawn arrived, complete with sizzles on a hot plate!
As with the service at Jack’s place, you’ll be served with sour cream, green onions and bacon bits for your whole potato. Love this tradition at Jack’s Place – takes us way back. Though the prawn was not as fresh we wanted it to be, it was still quite decent sized. Of course, the steak was good. Flavourful. All in all, for less than $30 for 2 pax and views of Rain Vortex – definitely a great deal!
Lavender Jewel Afternoon Tea Time
After lunch at Jack’s Place, we took a stroll around Jewel. Shopping on a weekday at Jewel, without the crowds was so much more relaxing. When we entered Muji, there were probably less than 10 customers and we could take our time to browse through the various offers and the range of snacks! After all the shopping, we became peckish again and we decided to have some buns at Lavender…
There were so many types of buns to choose from! We decided to go with buns that we don’t normally eat such as the Bamboo Charcoal Mochi as well as the Matcha Red Bean Mochi. The traditional egg tart rounded off our selection for afternoon tea. We matched the buns with Iced Kopi from Five Spice Food Court…
**Enjoying the toast set at Five Spice Food Court during a separate visit there…
The Matcha Red Bean Mochi was ooook. But we really enjoyed the Bamboo Charcoal Mochi. The texture was chewy and there’s a very mild natural sweetness on each bite, which tasted surprisingly healthy. Kate’s favourite was the Egg Tart, with its traditional crumbly crust. Shiok! After filling up, we decided to catch a movie at Jewel’s Shaw Theatre. We enjoyed the weekday price of $9 bucks and caught Nomadland which won several awards at this year’s Academy Awards – including Best Picture, Actress and Director…
The other perk of watching on a week day was that there was only 2 other individuals who watched the movie with us. An (almost) private screening! The movie is about travelling nomads in America who travel across America in search of seasonal jobs such as packaging with Amazon during the holiday season and helping out at parks during the summer season; all the while staying in campervans. Enjoyed the movie, especially the cinematography that includes stunning landscapes and beautiful sunsets.
Saap Saap Thai Jewel Review
After bearing the cold for 2 hours in Shaw Theatres, it was time to warm ourselves with something soupy. Thankfully, we stumbled upon Saap Saap Thai at Jewel Changi Airport…
This time, we ordered the Beef Boat Noodle Deluxe ($10.50 – with an assortment of beef such as brisket, beef slices, tendon and beef balls) as well as the Tom Yum Beef Deluxe ($10.50 – the Tom Yum version of Beef Boat Noodle Deluxe). For drinks, we had the Cha Red Tea Jelly ($3.50)…
Saap Saap Thai is indeed a gem! For the price above, we had copious amounts of beef and tendon, so much so that we were passing ingredients to each other because there was simply too much in one bowl. As for the soup, the beef noodle soup was rich and savoury. On the other hand, the Tom Yum was fiery! If you’re not careful, you’d be coughing and attracting unwanted attention – especially during these COVID times 😅
All in all, we were pleasantly surprised by the authenticity, taste and CP value of the beef noodles. We’ll probably be heading back for more great tasting food soon! Shhh…a secret to be kept among us k?

We hope you have enjoyed our “daycation” at Jewel. All in all, we spent less than $80 for this “daycation”. We were able to enjoy great tasting food, caught an excellent Academy Award winning movie and most of all, spent quality time catching up with each other. “Daycations” like this could be our alternate choice for “Staycations” given the cheaper price tag and flexibility that it affords.
