Visitors trying out the Hole-In-One Challenge at Lake Taupo

After our pre-dinner drinks at Cornerstone Taphouse Taupo, we walked by the Lake Taupo Hole-In-One Challenge – which…looked rather interesting…

The game is of course really simple. That is, to hit a hole-in-one, over Lake Taupo to a platform located 102m (111 yards) away. Simple in the sense of the game play but of course, not simple in its execution. Here are the prices:

1 Ball – $3
15 Balls – $25
30 Balls – $35
50 Balls – $50

And of course, the prize money for Lake Taupo Hole-In-One Challenge is a cash prize of $10,000. During our visit, we saw that till date, there were already 1200 winners of the hole-in-one challenge.

By the looks of the visitors playing, you can see that there isn’t exactly smiles all round. After a quick analysis, the game is not for visitors who do not know the game of golf. Firstly, you will have to hit the distance. Although 100m is not really a far distance, to hit it consistently does require someone who is acquainted with playing gold. Secondly, the precision. It is definitely not easy to not only hit the distance but to hit it towards a platform out on the water. Most times, you’d see players just miss the platform, landing on the waters instead. For those who did land on the platform, they would still be a marked distance away.

Hence, it is definitely not easy.

Perhaps we’ll do some training at the driving range if we’re ever to attempt the Lake Taupo Hole-In-One Challenge. Otherwise, we’d pretty much be at the sidelines watching players attempt the Taupo Hole-In-One Challenge in the meantime.
