Lenu Chef’s Wai Noodle Bar has been one of the joints that we’ve wanted to try in a while. With the 3 additional miles with Kris+, we decided to visit Lenu Compass One and here’s what we thought…
About LeNu Chef’s Wai Noodle Bar Compass One
Located at 1 Sengkang Square #03 – 05, LeNu Chef’s Wai Noodle Bar has a very modern decoration as expected of the Paradise Group.
Inside, wooden panels line the restaurant to give it that homely feel. Spot lights used at strategic areas also brighten up the entire restaurant altogether. In terms of furnishings, simple tables and stools are used to bring about that casual vibe that Lenu is going for.
LeNu Chef’s Wai Noodle Bar Compass One – What We Ordered
On separate occasions, we ordered the following
1. A5 Beef Combination
– Braised Beancurd
– Peach Vinegar
2. Pork Rib Dry Noodles
3. Marbled Beef Noodle
– Tofu Century Egg
– Soya Bean Milk
4. Wanton Dry Noodles
– Thick Noodles
A5 Beef Combination
We started with the A5 Beef Combination ($18.95) that came with different parts of the beef including tripe, tendon and brisket. As lovers of beef tendon, this was a great choice for us. The soup was good and had the flavours from hours of simmering of the beef. However, the taste was probably something that we’re not entirely used too. The Taiwanese version from Isshin Machi is probably the version that we’re more atuned to. Nonetheless, a great bowl of noodles, ramen and beef selection to start off the meal.
Pork Rib Dry Noodles
Surprisingly, we’ve enjoyed both dry noodle bowls at Lenu. The Pork Rib Dry Noodles ($12.90) has such tender pork ribs. Yup, fall-off-the-bone tender. The ramen noodles at LeNu have been pretty good as well. Al dente and slurpingly good.
Marbled Beef Noodle
As the name suggests, the Marbled Beef Noodles ($12.90) comes with slices of marbled beef but they resembled slices that you would get at a hotpot restaurant. For a noodles shop, we were thinking of round slices that would line the bowl like a Japanese ramen but beef slices instead of char siu slices. Nonetheless, the fatty slices of marbled beef does taste good.
Wanton Dry Noodles
The Wanton Dry Noodles ($11.30) was OK. The twist was that we ordered the thick bee hoon but we still preferred the ramen noodles. Somehow dry thick bee hoon doesn’t really work quite that well.

Overall, LeNu Chef’s Wai Noodle Bar 樂牛私房面家 is a casual noodle joint that serves up above-average bowls of noodles. We enjoyed the dry noodles here. Somehow the ramen in fried scallions are very fragrant and worth the visit just for it. However, in terms of the beef noodles, especially the beef broth, we found it to be wanting. Don’t get us wrong, the rendition at LeNu is good. You can taste the hours placed into simmering the beef broth. However, there’s just something missing. It is not as rich as we anticipated and just did not hit the spot like the braised Taiwanese noodles that we like. Without further points from Kris+, we find that it would be unlikely we’ll be visiting any time soon. Glad to have finally placed another “want-to-try” joint out of the list this time.
