We stumbled upon Maison Marou Tay Ho in Hanoi after our pre-dinner drinks at 7 Bridges Brewing Company. Attracted by the colours and artisanal chocolates within, we decided to step in and have a look…
About Maison Marou
Maison Marou was founded by the owners Samuel Maruta and Vincent Mourou while doing some soul-searching the forests of Vietnam. They came upon some really fantastic cacao and decided to start a bean-to-bar chocolatier in 2011. By 2016, Maison Marou had expanded to other areas like breakfast, brunch and high tea, making it a complete chocolate experience for its guests…
To be honest, it was those amazing pastries that made us set foot into Maison Marou…
Chocolates, Pastries and Souvenir from Maison Marou Hanoi
Once we’re in, we zoomed in on the pastries on offer. They’re all so beautifully and intricated created. Check out the Mug Mousse. Will you bear to eat that mug up? I know I would. 😋

Inside, you’ll also find a map of where Maison Marou sources its cacao from across Vietnam. They even have its own little chocolate factory in Tay Ho – though we were told that most of the chocolates were from the Maison Marou Flagship Store in Hoan Kiem, Hanoi…
And of course, the merchandise. They have such a wide variety of chocolates on offer and even souvenirs as well!
Since Maison Marou is a local Vietnamese chocolatier, we decided to support local (like how we have with the local craft beers) and went ahead to buy a bar of rum and raisin chocolate. There are many different chocolates that you can choose from actually – especially those local flavours like ginger and lime, coconut milk and pepper. You can also find other conventional chocolate bars like milk chocolate, dark chocolate or peanut butter chocolate as well as cacao nibs, cacao powder and the yummy chocolate spreads. Its a little like Charlie and the Chocolate Factory in real life.
But how does the chocolate really taste?

For the rum and raisin chocolate bar that we bought at 150,000 VND (or $9 SGD), we must say that it was really beautifully wrapped with the light pastel-coloured paper wrapper outside as well as a gold aluminum wrapper on the inside. For a moment, I wondered if I would receive the “Golden Ticket” 😂 However, in the taste department, it was ok. Not much of a “wow factor” and there wasn’t much of a rum taste as well.
Since chocolate tastes are subjected, we’d leave you to decide if it is worth a visit to Maison Marou Hanoi. Nonetheless, if you do have a chocolate craving, we’d suggest to head to Maison Marou to #supportlocal while in Vietnam.
