Mandarin Orchard Singapore was where we did our staycation to redeem the $100 SingapoRediscovers vouchers. This time, we did it via Klook for a 1-night stay in a Meritus Club Room with Club Benefits at the Meritus Club Lounge. The cost of the Meritus Club Room was $350 and after the $100 SRV, it came to $250 nett. Not too bad for a stay, inclusive of meals and drinks…
Mandarin Orchard Singapore Family Suite Meritus Club Staycation Review
Upon arrival at the hotel lobby, you’ll be asked to take the lift up to level 5. All operations of checking in has been shifted here…
Prior to our stay, we had already emailed in advance to book our swimming pool slots at 1pm on the day of arrival as well as the 8am gym session the next morning. During check-in, we were also pleasantly surprised that we were upgraded to the family suite as well. Not sure why this was the case. We think that it could be one of two reasons. Either, the pre-booking of slots showed that we were not “newbies” or that they were making up for emailing us again even after we had already indicated our time of arrival. Either way, we were happy guests for receiving the upgrade!
Upon our arrival at about 1pm (we had actually visited Menbaka Kyoto Fire Ramen Restaurant before our staycation), our room was actually ready. However, as we had booked our swimming pool slot at 1pm (swimming pool also located at level 5), we decided to head to the swimming pool first. Before that, you’d have to do a quick temperature scan and draw the key card to access the swimming pool area.
The swimming pool of Mandarin Orchard Singapore is actually quite small. So it is more of a “tick in the box” rather than a place where you can chill out. There is a staircase that leads to the open air bar right about the swimming pool. However, due to the on-going pandemic, the pool bar is closed as well. Hence, after dipping for about a half hour (thankful for the sunshine!), we went on to check out our room…
First impressions? HUGE!
There was so much space in the family suite of Mandarin Orchard Singapore! Upon entering the room, you’ll be greeted with a huge living room that has a sofa, a TV and a work desk (why would one work in the family suite? 🤔), complete with a view of the main tower of Mandarin Orchard.
Next, the bedroom that has a huge king-sized bed, a leather recliner chair, another TV, a large window with great views again as well as the entrance to the bathroom…
The bathroom itself still maintained the posh factor and had a HUGE bathtub. There was a rainshower with a couple of massage jets as well…
After being wowed by the size of the room as well as the views, we headed to Meritus Club Lounge to spend the rest of our after (and evening) there…
Mandarin Orchard Singapore Meritus Club Lounge (Top of the M) Staycation Review
Meritus Club Lounge is the executive lounge of Mandarin Orchard Singapore. It was formerly a revolving restaurant known as Top of the M. The name has been retained and you’ll still be able to see evidence of the revolving platform in the lounge itself. To the Meritus Club Room guests, a visit to the club lounge is definitely the highlight of the staycation!
Meritus Club Lounge is located at level 38 of Mandarin Orchard Singapore. There are dedicated lifts from Orchard Wing. Look out for the signs above. Also, once you’re at level 38, you’d have to climb a flight of stairs to reach level 39 where the amazing views await…
As a Meritus Club guest, you’d be entitled to these privileges:
Daily breakfast from 6:30am to 10am on Weekdays (7am to 10:30am on Weekends)
Daily afternoon tea from 3pm to 5pm
Daily evening cocktails from 6pm to 8pm
All day refreshments (water, coffee and tea) and cookies
As we arrived just before afternoon tea, we checked out the Meritus Club Lounge first…
Here’s the menu for afternoon tea and evening cocktails at Meritus Club Lounge (Mandarin Orchard Singapore):
Afternoon Tea
Salmon Sandwich
Chicken Ham Sandwich
Scones
Green Tea Tiramisu
Milk Chocolate Cake
Ruby Madeleines
Evening Cocktails
Pork Mortadella
Pork Pancetta
Smoke Dill Salmon
Smoke Mackerel
Cheese Platter
Pan Sear Foie Gras
Barbeque Prawn
Cheese Croquette
Turkey Bacon Prawn

Pineapple Roll
After several rounds of Scrabble, it was soon time for the evening cocktails. For evening cocktails, these are choices of beverages (alcoholic and non-alcoholic drinks) at Meritus Club Lounge
We started off with some sparking brut and these hors d’oeuvre…
The Meritus Club Lounge also affords some of the best views of sunrise and sunsets. Some say that seats near views of the main tower offers great views of sunsets. This was where we sat. Unfortunately, it was a little cloudy this day…
After the sunset, we took a couple of drinks and adjourned to another part of the Meritus Club Lounge to enjoy the night views of Orchard Road…
Having spent almost the entire day at the Meritus Club Lounge, we were actually sad to leave. It was rather tranquil and relaxing to see Singapore’s skyline as well as its changing hues as the sunset. Coupled with drinks and hors d’oeuvre, it was definitely a perfect evening. The foie gras was great!
We left for a night walk along Orchard Road, shopped a little at Don Don Donki before turning in for the evening.
The next morning, we woke up for our gym time slot at 8am…
To access the gym, you’d have to head back to the lobby at level 5 first. There, you’d have to have your temperature taken and draw the gym key before taking the lift up to level 36 at the Main Tower. After you exit from the lift, follow the signs and walk up a flight of stairs to access the gym at level 37.
The gym at Mandarin Orchard Singapore is spacious and definitely well-equipped. You have tread mills as well as ample free weights for the gym enthusiasts. The only let down was that there’s no view, even though its located at level 37.
Mandarin Orchard Singapore Meritus Club Lounge Breakfast Ala Carte Buffet
For breakfast, we headed back to Meritus Club Lounge again. Of course, for the views. The sunrise was amazing this morning…
For breakfast, you can choose from the
American Breakfast Set
Vegetarian Set
Congee Set
Noodle Set
with add-ons such as smoked salmon, pastries and waffles…
We really enjoyed the breakfast at Meritus Club Lounge of Mandarin Orchard Singapore. Unlike many hotels during pandemic times, you can still continue to order multiple sets to try out the different offerings on the menu. Moreover, the morning sunrise views of the surrounding CBD and Orchard area was also surreal as well. LOVE IT!
After our departure from Mandarin Orchard Singapore, we took a short walk to 313 Somerset and had Hai Di Lao for the very first time! The lunch time deal and the less crowded weekday visit, made dining at Hai Di Lao a reality!

Conclusion
If you’re looking for a hotel with a great swimming pool and cool facilities, Mandarin Orchard Singapore is not one of those cool, quaint hotels to check out. However, if you’re looking for a destination to enjoy views over the Singapore city skyline at an affordable price, a staycation at Mandarin Orchard Singapore is definitely what we’d recommend. Remember to opt for the Meritus Club Rooms and you’ll be able to spend hours chilling and enjoying these unforgettable sights. We certainly did!
