Besides using the best travel credit cards for miles accrual in Singapore, there are actually other ways for you to snag that SQ First Class & Private Room experience. In this post, we’ll show you how you can complement your miles accrual journey with the Mileslife App!
What is the Mileslife App?
The tagline for the Mileslife app says “Earn Miles Faster. Live Life Better.“. That’s exactly what this app does. In its most basic form, the Mileslife app is simply a payment app. But because you pay through the app, it rewards you with miles – a similar concept to other payment apps (i.e. GrabPay, AliPay) that gives you perks/discounts for payment done using these apps. The only difference? Mileslife incentivises you with miles and if you’re collecting miles towards that dream flight, this could be the app for you!
Useful Features on Mileslife App that helps in Miles Accrual
To use the Mileslife App, you will have to top up the credits in Mileslife. Fortunately, you can do that through your credit cards. In essence, by using the Mileslife app, you’ll be “doubling” your miles collection because if you’re topping up the credit using your travel credit card, you’ll get miles there (first way to earn miles). After you use the Mileslife app for payment, depending on the product that you’re purchasing, you’ll get as high as 8 miles (more) per transaction (second way to earn miles). On top of that, there are bonuses for transactions each month, allowing users to complete transactions in a certain way (known as “tasks” – the third way to earn miles). On top of all that, there could be special promotions that allows additional miles to be earned (the fourth way to earn miles). The best part? Many of these tasks can be stacked, allowing each dollar that you spend, to be maximised to the fullest!
As an example, if you take a look at this screen shot below,
You’ll see that if you visit these restaurants, you’ll normally only earn 2 miles per dollar spent. But because this list of restaurants are promoted in January, you’ll get 8 miles per dollar spent using Mileslife.
In addition, there’s also an on-going promotion for completing certain tasks to receive bonus miles. For each of these tasks, there are terms of conditions before you can earn the bonus miles. For instance, to earn the 300 bonus miles (“Dine Early In The Week”), you’ll have to have a qualifying spend of $10, on Mondays/Tuesdays for 3 times.
So, combining the above 2 promotions and if you spend $15 (3 times) on Mondays and Tuesdays, you’ll get
Amount Spent: $45 (3 times of $15 on Mondays and Tuesdays)
Miles on Credit Card: 45×1.2 = 54 miles
8x miles on Mileslife: 45×8 = 360 miles
300 miles bonus: 300 miles
Hence, by spending $45, you would have accumulated 714 miles (or 15.8 miles per dollar spent)!
There’s also another promotion going on in January,
You’ll receive 1000 miles for at least a $29 transaction at any of the 22 shops at Luxury Fashion Galleria Resorts World Sentosa. You can probably get an accessory for $50 and if you do so, you’ll receive
Amount Spent: $50
Miles on Credit Card: 50×1.2 = 60 miles
2x miles on Mileslife: 50×2 = 100 miles
1000 miles bonus: 1000 miles
Hence, by spending $50, you would have accumulated 1160 miles (or 23.2 miles per dollar spent)!
There are also 2 other features on the Mileslife app that gives you a little bit more perk…
By checking-in daily (simply by clicking a button each day), you’ll receive miles and coupons to accumulate more miles for every 7 days of checking-in. There’s also a section called “Mileslife Health” that rewards you with 2 miles for every 5000 steps completed each day. Just by clicking and walking, we accumulated an additional 50 miles in the last 7 days. And these miles are directly credited into your account – no spending required!
Little Known “Stacking” between Mileslife and Eatigo App
To “sweeten” the deal, you can actually compare between both the Eatigo App and Mileslife App. For instance, there are 8 restaurants that are offering 8x miles on the Mileslife app and we found 4 of these restaurants on the Eatigo App…
This also means that you can get a 50% off at Nayana Kpop Cafe while receiving 8x miles on the Mileslife App.
Since the last update, we found that Mileslife has “clamped down” and added a caveat where most discounts are no longer applicable using Mileslife. Meaning, stacking with another discount food app does not work with Mileslife anymore.
Having discussed all the pros of using Mileslife app, surely there are some down sides of using this app right?
Downsides of Using the Mileslife App in Singapore
There are only 3 things that we didn’t like about the Mileslife app so far…
1. You can only top up credit in denominations of $300 or $999. Hence, once you embark on this journey, you’d have to use at least $300 with the app. A smart way for Mileslife to “lock-in” its users.
2. There are a relatively small number of restaurants as compared to other food apps in Singapore. This limits where you can dine at to use Mileslife in Singapore. Nonetheless, the list is still growing – which is a good sign.
3. You have to use the app at least once each month to keep the app “active”. This means that you cannot just use it as a step-tracker and earn miles from it. Again, a smart way for Mileslife to keep “free-loaders” out of the system.
MilesLife Singapore Scam?
Recently, Mileslife issued a statement…
Apparently it has been circulated online that the Mileslife partners in China have not been receiving payments in the last few months. Mileslife then issued a statement to say that these “reports are without merit”. However, at the same time, the “Check-In” function also failed to function. In the same statement, Mileslife clarified that its due to a “technical update”. At the same time, we also noticed that the April 8 miles bonus, have been fully redeemed.
Update on 22nd April 2019
Since 18th April, there have been reports that users have not been able to credit Krisflyer miles through Mileslife. Following an announcement on 22nd April, it has been confirmed that Singapore Airlines has “temporarily suspended” the miles earning partnership with Mileslife. However, other frequent flyer programmes (ANA, Emirates, Qantas etc.) are still able to have their miles credited through Mileslife.
Will Mileslife Cease Operations in Singapore?
With all these “gossip” going around, it seems like Mileslife may be having some troubles. Will Mileslife turn out to be another scam (i.e. Mileslife Scam)?
Only time will tell…
