Millennium Hotel and Resort Manuels was where we stayed during our visit to Taupo, New Zealand. After our visit to Huka Falls and the sumptuous meal at Dixie Browns, we checked in at the beautiful Millennium Hotel and Resort Manuels Taupo…
About Millennium Hotel and Resort Manuels Taupo
Millennium Hotel Manuels in Taupo is a great area to explore the offerings in Taupo such as Huka Falls, the Maori Cave Carvings as well as the activities around Taupo Lake. One of the reasons we chose to stay at Millennium Manuels is because of its location right next to Lake Taupo. However, the decision was whether to stay at one of the Lake View Rooms on the higher levels or “go big or go home” by staying at the rooms on the first floor with direct access to Lake Taupo – well, you probably know by now which room we chose…
The lobby of Millennium Manuels Taupo is decorated in a really cosy manner. A beautiful chandelier and a renaissance painting invites you as you enter into its premise. After checking in, we were given directions to our room on the south side of the premise, away from the pool. To go there, we had to walk past the Lakefront Bar which really does provide some great views over Lake Taupo…
It is also through the Lakefront Bar that you can have access to Lake Taupo as well. So don’t be shy to “cut through” the bar as it is the official way to head to the lake from the hotel, after checking in with the reception.
Millennium Hotel and Resort Manuels Taupo Standard Lake View Room
The Standard Lake View Room at Millennium Hotel Manuels was a pretty standard room with a king-sized bed, cable TV and shower facilities. You can park your car right outside your room where the car park lot is and there are towels, coffee/tea, shower amenities provided. There’s a large flat screen TV, a water boiler, heater that works perfectly and lots of coffee and tea to choose from. Cable TV was definitely one of our favourites where we watched history, darts and reality TV like Botched 😝
Comfortable room but nothing fancy like the Prestige Hotel Penang – though the highlight was what we were about to see next…
We were completely in love with the views as we drew our curtains to see Lake Taupo – right from our room! Moreover, we could just open the sliding door and chill right by the lake as strollers and joggers passed by…
View of the Lake was simply amazing. From our room we were able to walk right out to Lake Taupo. Each morning and evening, we’ll also be able to see a family of swans feeding right by the waters near to our room. They’d come over early in the mornings and head right back in the evenings – a daily routine.
One more little tip. If you’re walking along the shores close to Millennium Hotel and Resort Manuels, you’ll find some areas with gravel stones by the waters. These stones, if you dig a little deeper, you will uncover heated water beneath. This is because Lake Taupo actually sits atop an active volcano and there are still geothermal activities going on. What this means is that you can actually mix the temperature of the heated waters with the surface waters of the lake and create your own little enclave of water to soak your feet or body in. Try it out while you’re here!
Millennium Hotel and Resort Manuels Taupo Facilities Review
For guests of Millennium Hotels and Resorts Manuels Taupo, you can enjoy facilities such as the swimming pool, gym and Finnish Sauna. You’d be glad to know that the swimming pool is heated! This means that even when it is cold, you can still go have a dip in the pool and feel refreshed!
Right next to the swimming pool is the gym and finnish sauna. The gym is a small little space with a gym bike and an elliptical, along with some free weights. Definitely not a complete gym but you sure can do some work out here. There’s also a sauna which we didn’t enter as it was locked during our visit. We found from fellow guests that you’d need to get the key from the reception to enter. If you have tried the sauna at Millennium Hotel Manuels Taupo, do let us know more in the comments section below.
Dining at Edgewater Restaurant Millennium Hotel And Resort Manuels Taupo Review
The last highlight of staying at Millennium Hotel And Resort Manuels Taupo is the in-house restaurant Edgewater Restaurant. Not only does Edgewater Restaurant have some of the best views over Lake Taupo, it also serves up fresh and great tasting international cuisine here. If you’re into steak, do not miss the Rib-Eye On The Bone Steak (500g) at $68NZD that comes with house made truffle butter, duck fat potato and a choice of sauce (red wine jus or mushroom sauce). This time, we ordered the braised lamb shank at $38 as well…
This time, we had the Merlot ($10) and the Hazy IPA ($14.5 – Tuatara Brewery) which complimented our meal perfectly. Both the steak and the lamb portions were HUGE but more importantly, delicious! You could taste the grilled, flavourful beef which was still juicy on each cut. Grilled to perfection. The grilled vegetables, surprisingly were so fragrant and the carrot was delightfully sweet. The cherry tomato was also “burst-in-your-mouth” juicy. Remember to order your steak medium rare. Expertly prepared.
The lamb on the other hand had no trace of gamey taste at all. Tender and flavourful. You could taste that there was alot of effort put into removing the gamey taste completely. Mash potato with bacon bits was yummy. A really memorable experience dining at Edgewater Restaurant Millennium Hotel and Resort Manuels Taupo!
