On day 7 of our travels in New Zealand, we checked out the offerings in Wellington City itself. This morning, we strolled along Cuba Street and had breakfast at our first stop – Wellington Sea Market!
New Zealand Travel Itinerary Day 7 – Breakfast at Wellington Sea Market
We were actually attracted by the smells of freshly fried fish batter and decided to drop by for a quick breakfast…
After browsing through the menu at Wellington Seamarket, we decided to go with the All-Day Breakfast Set that eggs, bacon, sausage as well as a large portion of freshly fried fish & chips…
The All-Day Breakfast at Wellington Seamarket costs $17.50 and was well worth it with eggs cooked to perfection, huge sausage, juicy bacon as well as a freshly fried fish with a nicely crumbed outer coat. A perfect start to the day in Wellington!
Wellington Apothecary
After a hearty breakfast, we continued our morning stroll along Cuba Street Wellington where we stumbled upon the Wellington Apothecary. We found the Wellington Apothecary to be a little sanctuary of relaxation with products sold to improve wellbeing. This time, we chanced upon a scent known as “Whisky In A Jar” ($49) which had a butterscotch base with wisps of whisky. And…we got a jar…why not? 😁
After a little more shopping along Cuba Street and supporting a really hardworking busker dressed as a Christmas Tree, we headed to our next pit-stop at Fork and Brewer – a craft brewery in Wellington, New Zealand
New Zealand Travel Itinerary Day 7 – Craft Beers at Fork and Brewer
Kate had carefully researched where to spend our “beer calories” and Fork and Brewer was a top choice – the entrance of turquoise green supports this choice. Climbing up to the second level, we found the brewing vessels and the bar area where the beers are served…
There is a wide range of craft beers on offer at Fork and Brewer Wellington and we were really spoilt for choice. However, we decided to go local, by choosing beers that can’t be had elsewhere. This time, we went with a couple of collaboration beers, including the Cocoa Chocolate Milk Stout ($12.5) which is a collab with Wellington Chocolate as well as the NZGA (New Zealand Grape Ale) #2 ($11), a collaboration with Fairmont Estate that combines its fruity Sauvignon Blanc into a grape ale…
This time, we enjoyed the smooth chocolaty-milk-shake-styled stout that came with a woody afternote that is the Cocoa Chocolate Milk Stout at Fork and Brewer. The NZGA #2 was also a refreshing experience for us – a craft beer that tastes like Sauvignon Blanc! Yum! If you’re in the vicinity and enjoy your craft beers, be sure to check out Fork and Brewer – and to tell us your favourite craft beer in our comments section below!
New Zealand Travel Itinerary Day 7 – Wellington Museum
After our visit to Fork and Brewer, it was still raining quite heavily. Hence, we scrapped our plan to stroll along the harbour and sought refuge at Wellington Museum – which turned out to be a really good choice…
Wellington Museum is actually a free museum, even for foreign visitors. The cool thing about Wellington Museum is that you’ll be able to find out more about the history of the city of Wellington as well as where it is heading towards in the future…
This time, we learnt about the Wahine Disaster that took the lives of 51 in 1968. One of our take-away was really the power of the winds and waters around Wellington – which we experienced for ourselves in the ensuing days in Wellington! 😦
After our visit to Wellington Museum, the wind and rains still remained quite strong – at one point upending our umbrella (inverting it). Hence, we decided to make a dash to check out Wellington Chocolate but was closed when we visited at 4pm 😭 Rogue and Vagabond was next on our itinerary…
New Zealand Travel Itinerary Day 7 – Rogue & Vagabond
There is actually a pretty lawn in front of Rogue & Vagabond Craft Beer Bar in Wellington. However, due to the rain, we headed indoors to check out the offerings on the menu of Rogue & Vagabond instead…
This time, we checked out the Rogue Chicken Burger and the OG Beef Burger (both $17) with an added portion of curly fries ($4) as well as the Bitterbitch ($13) as there was no double IPA on tap this time round. The total bill came up to $51. Everything were actually really good. We loved the hoppy IPA, the beefy and aromatic OG Beef Burger. The chicken burger was crisp and juicy along with a HUGE portion of curly fries with cajun seasoning.
All in all, Rogue & Vagabond is a nice local joint to check out the craft beer scene in Wellington. We noticed several groups of friends just catching up , hanging out and enjoying each other’s company. The casual vibe of Rogue & Vagabond allows these interactions to take place…
Shelly Bay Scenic Route
As we found that we still had a little time on our hands, we wanted to check out the Wellywood sign as well as the Shelly Bay scenic route. Yah…the Wellywood sign reminded us of the OG Hollywood sign we saw in LA previously…
We took a short drive around the Shelly Bay scenic route and saw the Wellywood Sign (aka Wellington Sign). The rock formations enroute were pretty as well. Unfortunately, it was still too windy. Otherwise, it would be perfect on a sunny day.
New World Supermarket was our last stop for the day where we did quite a bit of shopping at the New World Supermarket at 279 Wakefield, Wellington. This time we bought
Egmont Manuka $18.49 – 500g
Supremely Chocolates 100g – $5.78 each (peanut butter, lemon curd, hokey pokey and salted caramel)
Wellington Choc 75g – $7.99 (salted caramel, coconut milk)
Whittaker’s $4.19 (Fijian Ginger Keri Mandarin, Hawkers Bay Plum Almond Dark, Oat Milk Chocolate, Tab Pear Manuka Honey, White Choc Supreme Flat White)
Mills Reef Reserve Cabernet Merlot 750ml – $23.99
Banana Chocolate Chip Bread Cake $6.98
Puhoi valley Gouda Cumin Seed – $7.79
The total came up to $212.01 for the evening which fuelled our snacking needs for the next couple of days. We also noticed the extensive craft beer selection available as well, probably a good idea for our local supermarket as well…

To wind down the evening, we had wine and cheese while watching one of our favourite travel shows – House Hunters, back at our AirBnB. We hope you have enjoyed our coverage of day 7 of our New Zealand Travel Itinerary. Stay tuned for Day 8 of our travels in Wellington, New Zealand as we check out the scenic Mount Victoria before heading back north via Bulls to our next stop – Skotel Alpine Resort!
