One of the top concerns of travelling today is really about how to stay connected at a reasonable cost. This is especially so when you’re travelling to a country of different language where you’d probably need more googling for translations, directions and places of interest. During our recent visit to Okinawa in Japan, we were able to experience Ninja Wifi. Thanks to the great folks there, we were able to check out this device that is touted to be “A must have item when traveling in Japan“!

As most tourists enter Japan by flight, Ninja Wifi has made it easy for tourists to pick up their pocket wifi with ease at the airport. Prior to our departure, we were given specific instructions with pictorial directions to lead us to the pick up counter…

After we landed in Okinawa Airport, we wasted no time in locating our pick up counter for Ninja Wifi. In fact, the directions were so clear that we were able to locate it once we entered the arrivals lobby. The picture sent also helped us to identify the pick up location with ease…

After we arrived at the counter, all we had to do was to inform the staff of our order number. After, a quick verification, we received our device! The Ninja Wifi website also has an extensive list of pick up spots for the other airports in Japan as well.

Verdict: It was really easy to locate the pick up counter and the pick up itself was a breeze!

Ninja Wifi Review: Easy to use

After receiving our pocket wifi, we checked out its contents. There was the router itself, an USB charging cable (with local power plug) as well as a set of instructions.

The SSID and password were indicated on the router itself. So all we had to do was

1. Switch on the Wifi
2. Find the SSID on our handphones
3. Key in the password

And we’re good to go!

Verdict: It was really just “plug and play”! All we had to do was literally, just the 3 steps above and we were instantly connected!

Ninja Wifi Review: Best Price for Unlimited Data

At about 9USD per day for unlimited data in Japan, that’s the market pricing. The cool thing though is that you will be able to connect up to 5 devices. This means that you’ll be able to drive down the cost if you’re travelling as a group.

As there were just the 2 of us, we had no trouble connecting our wifi devices to Ninja Wifi.

Verdict: Ninja Wifi’s prices are competitive for unlimited data. Definitely of great value if you’re travelling as a group.

We’d like to report that besides the country-side area of Yanbaru (north eastern part of Okinawa), we had a relatively enjoyable experience of using Ninja Wifi throughout Okinawa…

As we did a self-drive throughout the whole of Okinawa, we were able to test the signal strength and reception of Ninja Pocket Wifi from the coastal areas to the extremities of the island.

Verdict: Besides the most northern part of Yanbaru, we are happy to report that we were able to have great reception and signal strength throughout the rest of Okinawa.

Final Words on Ninja Wifi

All in all, we were very satisfied with the entire experience of using Ninja Wifi. The pick up was done with relative ease while reception was great for most parts of our journey. Even when we returned the router during non-working hours, it was as simple as dropping it into a box next to the counter.

If you’re travelling to Japan in the future, do consider Ninja Wifi as an option for your wifi needs in Japan!
