During our travels, we would like to watch a movie, in the local language, with or without subtitles. For instance, we watched Toy Story 4 in Greece, Badhaai Ho in India and Harry Potter in Italy. This time, we decided to watch the Japanese remake of the movie “Bucket List”, also known as 最高の人生の見つけ方 in Japanese…

Watching Japanese Remake of Movie “The Bucket List” – 最高の人生の見つけ方 at Naha Main Place Cinema Q
This morning, we woke up at 7:30am and started our walk to Cinema Q at Naha Main Place at 8:30am…
The walk was about 30 minutes and we headed straight to the cinema to get our tickets for the 9:20am show. As we were watching the Japanese version of the Bucket List (最高の人生の見つけ方), in Japanese, the receptionist was concerned and double checked whether we really wanted to watch the Japanese version without subtitles. Tom and I exchanged glances at each other and we decided to do it anyways…to the tune of 1800 yen per ticket?! (that’s 22.5 SGD) WHAT?!?!?!
While the movie tickets was expensive, the half and half pop corn was still reasonably priced at 550yen. The movie had some elements that were similar to the original version, such as the illness, visit to Egypt and of course the iconic skydiving scene. Otherwise, the movie had very Japanese elements such as being part of a fan club to a Japanese girl pop group and an over-sized sundae.
In fact, we were touched by so many parts of the movie that we teared quite a bit. Like when they performed on stage with the girl pop group, reuniting with the father and the last scene of fulfilling the dream of launching a rocket into space. An excellent remake of the movie!
After the movie, we shopped at Can Do and the Naha Main Place itself, before settling for lunch at Osaka Ocho – A Japanese Chinese restaurant that you can also be found in Singapore…
As we pretty much wanted to try the mapo tofu, we ordered the fried rice with dumpling set (850 yen) as well as the mapo tofu (630 yen)…
After snagging a great deal at Times Car Rental (4100 yen for the day), we picked up our car at 5pm and headed out for dinner at Black Cat Restaurant (黑猫屋).
The restaurant itself had compartmentalised booths that allow patrons to have their little private space for dining. The grilled items were pretty delicious and they even have “all-you-can-eat” options as well!

After our visit to 黑猫屋 Black Cat Restaurant, we made one last stop to the A&W we saw 2 days ago!
However, this time, it was already dark…
We were glad to have visited this A&W Branch at Makiminato Okinawa (since 1969) because of its retro design. Externally, they still had those individual drive-in booths that are so iconic of the 1960s and 70s. Inside, you’ll be able to find a small little souvenir area…
This time, we ordered “famous items” such as Coney Dog, root beer float and a piece of fried chicken. Kate said that we should have gone with curly fries instead. Nonetheless, they all tasted GREAT even after a full dinner! 😛
At this branch, you’ll also be able to get unlimited, free-flow of root beer! All you have to do is to bring your root beer mug and top it up at the root beer tap at the counter of the restaurant. Cool! There’s also a small playground and meeting area outside the restaurant where friends and family can gather as well.
