Paik Jong Won or Baek Jong-won is one of the top celebrity chef from South Korea. Unlike the various Paik’s restaurants that you can find in countries such as Paik’s Noodles in Melbourne, Paik’s Pan in JB and Paik’s Bibim in Singapore, you can find all 5 restaurants at a location known as Paik Jong Won’s Kitchen in Vietnam.

The reason could be due to the close relationship that Vietnam has with South Korea. In 2022, Vietnam and South Korea celebrated 30 years of bilateral relations to much fanfare and elevation in various areas of cooperation. During our visit, we also found not only alot of Korean tourists but also alot of Korean restaurants and culture (Korean Drama and K-Pop) that even the locals enjoy. It is no wonder we are able to find Paik Jong Won’s Kitchen in the Cau Giay VINCOM Centre in Hanoi…
Paik Jong Won’s Kitchen actually consists of 5 restaurants including:
– Paik’s BBQ
– Paik’s Pan
– Paik’s Noodle
– Paik’s BIBIM
– Paik’s Coffee
This time, we visited Paik’s Pan for some teokbokki and Dakgalbi simmered over a huge flat hot pan…
What We had at Paik’s Pan VINCOM Centre Cau Giay Hanoi
We browsed through the menu and saw several food that we wanted to try including its Korean fried chicken and cheese spicy dakgalbi pan. However, since we had tried the cheese jjimdak in South Korea previously, we decided to go with the original Spicy Dakgalbi Pan. An individual portion of the Spicy Dakgalbi Pan costs 180k VND ($11 SGD) and since there were two of us, we ordered two portions at 360K VND ($22 SGD) which is still relatively affordable. As for the Korean chicken, we decided to hold on and not order first, just in case the portion came out to be too large. And it was…
The ingredients at Paik’s Pan are brought to the table raw and staff will fry the fresh ingredients right in front of you. Our Spicy Dakgalbi Pan (Chicken) has large chunks of spicy dakgalbi chicken, cabbage, tteokbokki and large green onions that we enjoy. There’s also extra douse of the spicy dakgalbi over the top. The staff will then begin to stir fry the ingredients before putting the cover on and placing the timer for 4 minutes. The same process is repeated again – stirring and simmer with the lid on for another 4 minutes. Soon, the Spicy Dakgalbi (Chicken) from Paik’s Pan was finally ready!
The Spicy Dakgalbi (Chicken) from Paik’s Pan turned out to be a great choice. The spicy dakgalbi was enticing while the chicken, even though it was only simmered for 8 minutes, was really tender. The tteokbokki was nicely cooked with a slight chewy texture, coated with the spicy sauce. As with Korean restaurants, there are also side dishes (banchan) served…
Each time we dine at a Korean restaurant serving banchan, we’ll always be reminded of our all-time-favourite Korean side dish from Big Mama at Tiong Bahru – sesame lotus! This time, our favourite is the freshly cut cabbage topped with roasted sesame salad dressing. Perfect for our dietary needs. This was also why we ordered seconds 😅
While enjoying the spicy dakgalbi, we saw one of the posters advertising the fried rice with the remaining dakgalbi sauce. This we have tried at Big Mama Korean Restaurant and really enjoyed. Hence, we decided to give it a try. Turns out, the staff fries it slightly differently in that the rice is only fried separately with the seaweed, sesame and sesame oil. This is unlike Big Mama where the rice is fried together with the remaining ingredients on the plate. Hence, after the staff left, we fried everything together and pressed it flat on the iron plate just like how Big Mama does it. Turned out to be so yummy! So frying everything together with the remaining sauce is still the way to go!
