On day 2 of our travels in Penang, we headed up to the roof top of Armenian Street Heritage Hotel for our breakfast…

Breakfast at Armenian Heritage Street Hotel Penang
Breakfast is served at the rooftop (7th floor) of Armenian Street Heritage Hotel. It costs RM18 (or $5.5SGD) per person to enjoy the breakfast here. After finding our seat, a staff approached us to check if we would like to pay by cash on the spot or via credit card at the lobby when we check-out. We chose the latter. The breakfast spread itself was simple, nothing fanciful but what really stood out was of course the views…
During breakfast, we were able to catch both the sunrise as well as mountain views from the roof top of Armenian Street Heritage Hotel. Although the food was so-so (in fact the coffee was quite diluted), the view more than made up for the lower quality breakfast. After breakfast, we did a stroll around the vicinity of the hotel before we checked out at 9:30am…

Sunday Morning Service at Penang Christian Centre
From Armenian Heritage Hotel, we took a grab ride to Penang Christian Centre to attend the morning service at 10am. The grab ride took about 7 mins at the cost of RM7. English service was at the 3rd level. The ushers were very friendly and the auditorium of Penang Christian Centre is quite big…
During the service, Pastor Isaac expounded on a few verses
Luke 9:23
“23 And he said to all, “If anyone would come after me, let him deny himself and take up his cross daily and follow me.”
1 Corinthians 6:19-20
“19 Or do you not know that your body is a temple of the Holy Spirit within you, whom you have from God? You are not your own, 20 for you were bought with a price. So glorify God in your body.”
Philippians 2:12-13
“Therefore, my beloved, as you have always obeyed, so now, not only as in my presence but much more in my absence, work out your own salvation with fear and trembling, for it is God who works in you, both to will and to work for his good pleasure.”
Pastor Isaac spoke about the gospel, how it is not entirely “free”. While the price for salvation has already been paid by Jesus’ death on the cross, we are no longer our own and we have to glorify God in our bodies.
As an avid climber, he likened it to having someone gift to him a trip to scale Mount Everest. The price to scale Mount Everest is on average, $50,000. However, in order to accept the gift, he would have to train hard to be able to scale Mount Everest. Otherwise, being sponsored but not being fit enough to climb, makes the gift moot. Similarly, although the price has been paid, we will have to be faithful and obedient to Him, to “work out our own salvation” as part of the sanctification process. Cool analogy.
After service, we wanted to head next door to try out the Duck Meat Kway Teow soup that was recommended by our friends. However, they were already closed when the service ended at about 12pm. Hence, we proceeded direct to our next hotel at Batu Ferringhi – DoubleTree Hilton Resort Penang.

Beach Getaway at Batu Ferringhi DoubleTree Hilton Resort Penang
Having previously stayed at Rasa Sayang Resort & Spa Penang as well as Hard Rock Hotel Penang, we decided to try out a different hotel along Batu Ferringhi – DoubleTree Hilton Resort Penang…
For our reader’s awareness, DoubleTree Resort Hilton Penang does not have direct access to the beach. You will have to cross a bridge (see above) before you can reach the beach. There, you can also find a secretive little joint known as Miami Cafe. But first, a little more about DoubleTree Resort Hilton Penang.
As we alighted from our grab ride, we found the hotel lobby to exude a nice holiday vibe. The lobby had high ceilings, breezy and spacious. Most of all, the staff were warm and friendly, welcoming us to its premise. The check-in process was smooth and we were given the signature chocolate chip cookies, which we enjoyed at the pool shortly after. But first, a quick look at our King Deluxe Room…
The King Deluxe Room was spacious and had all the frills of a 5-star hotel. We had cable TV, shower & amenities (no bath tub), coffee/tea amenities, fridge, balcony and even a sliver of views of the ocean…
After checking out of King Deluxe Room, we wasted no time in heading to the swimming pool to enjoy the waters while the sun was still out…
Besides the main pool, there’s also a kids water playground that has a water bucket dump, splashing water all around when it is filled to the brim. Also next to the main pool, there is a man-made beach that provides guests with a feeling of being at the beach without crossing over to the real beach. While at the pool, we also chilled and ordered some drinks (Tapping Tapir – Guava and Lemongrass, Iced Coffee) at 12RM each. The coffee was surprisingly rich and aromatic, complemented the chocolate chip cookie very well. Tapping Tapir was refreshing – fast becoming one of our favourite non-alcoholic drinks during the trip…
In and around DoubleTree Hilton Resort Penang, there’s a spa, a gym, a convenience stall known as “The Shop” as well as a the Axis Lounge where you can enjoy happy hour drinks or afternoon tea set (which we did while we were there).
We also checked the spa and found the Asia Mix (352RM for 2 hours of massage and 45 minutes facial) to be value-for-money due to a 20% discount for guests. However, this time, we were unable to experience the spa package as there was only 1 masseuse available. To be able to enjoy a spa package for 2, you will have to book in advance so that the spa centre can ensure there is sufficient therapists on site.
The other good thing about staying at DoubleTree Hilton Penang is that it isn’t too far from George Town and we were still able to get pretty good Grab Food for our “lunchner” where we had char hor fun (8RM+1.5RM for egg) and dry hor fun (8RM); delivery was 3RM…

After our “lunchner”, we crossed the bridge to the side of the beach to visit Miami Cafe. To get there, you’ll have to cross the bridge, make a right turn (past the bus stop) and walk down a flight of stony stairs…
After we arrived at Miami Cafe, we headed straight to the blue table by the rails that led to the beach. Once we sat down, the owner (Indian couple) approached us and laid a table cloth over the table. This made the table a little posh and ready for a candlelight dinner…
This time, we ordered the fish and chips (25RM), large bottle of Tiger beer (25RM) and an Iced White Coffee (5RM). The fish and chips still had a tiny wee bit of fishy taste and the outer layer was not crisp. However, having a front row seat of the views made the price well worth it…
Unfortunately, it was a cloudy evening and we were not able to catch a full sunset. In fact, passing shower ensued and we headed under the shelter to finish our drinks before heading back to our hotel. But before we turned in, we ordered some cakes from Bread History via Grab Food – Purple Velvet Swiss Roll (15RM) and Blueberry Cheesecake (5RM). Both were quite delectable we must say.
