On day 3 of our travels in Penang, we started out with a hearty breakfast at DoubleTree Hilton Penang…

Breakfast at DoubleTree Hilton Resort Penang
There’s a breakfast rush hour advice at DoubleTree Resort Hilton Penang. To avoid the crowds in the morning, we started early at 7am and at this time, the crowd was really thin. Probably because most of the kids are still snoozing or only starting to get out of bed. The breakfast at DoubleTree Resort Hilton Penang is rather extensive. You can get all cuisine ranging from Malaysian, Chinese, Indian and Western (inclusive of an egg station). There’s even something for the kids at the kid’s corner. The nasi lemak and Indian food sections were our favourites. In terms of seating, do try to sit indoors. This morning, we tried to leave our plates on the tables outside, facing the pool and guess what, the crows ALMOST nipped our food! Thankfully, we ran over in time to shoo them away. We then proceeded indoors, just in case the crows paid us another visit. Speaking of crows, there seems to be a nest of them by the tree at the pool. Hopefully the management sees this post and does something about it as it is causing somewhat of a nuisance both by the pool and during breakfasts.

TeddyVille Museum @ Batu Ferringhi DoubleTree Hilton Resort Penang
The other reason why we opted to stay at DoubleTree Hilton Resort Penang was because TeddyVille Museum @ Batu Ferringhi is housed within its premise!
The cool thing about being guests at DoubleTree Hilton Penang is that guests get half off at TeddyVille Museum @ Batu Ferringhi. This means that instead of paying 32RM per person, we paid only 16RM per person to enter. The tour started with a history of teddy bears…
The most famous of these is of course how Teddy Roosevelt refused to shoot a bear that was caught by his bear hunter. This news caught national headlines and soon, a now-famous cartoon of Roosevelt’s refusal to shoot, became synonymous with the event.
A Brooklyn-based candy shop owner, saw an opportunity and stuffed a teddy bear, dedicating it to the “President who refused to shoot a bear”. Soon after, “Teddy’s Bear” (or Teddy Bear) became a popular soft toy for kids around the world!
Speaking of Roosevelt, it reminded us of our visit to Yellowstone National Park where we had the bison burger at Roosevelt Lodge and visited the gorgeous Old Faithful geyser.
There are several things that we liked about TeddyVille Museum @ Batu Ferringhi.
Firstly, there is a good mix of what is featured. You can first learn about the history of teddy bears in general, then the history of Penang, the culture in Penang – which includes food and events. Famous personalities such as Jimmy Choo and Ernest Zacharevic are also featured as well.
Secondly, there is alot of attention and details placed into all the exhibits. For instance, if you zoom into the diorama that depicts the various scenes at the museum, you’ll notice the facial expressions are carefully chosen. We particularly liked the diorama at the Penang Hawker Centre where a tourist uses his camera to capture the hawkers in action. That’s what we’d likely do in real life as well! The bears eating the durians also seemed to be so absorbed in savouring the yellow-yellow flesh too! Don’t forget to check out the char koay teow teddy bear putting on his “game face” as he fries his plate of fried kway teow!
Thirdly, visitors can also “participate” in the exhibits. For instance, you can stand next to the char koay teow bear as he fries the next plate of char kway teow or join the queue for the famous Penang Chendol. Our favourite? Sitting right in the middle of the durian feast!
At the end of the visit, you’ll be able to get some magnets, shirts or keychains from the souvenir shop. As part of the entrance tickets, we were given 10RM off t-shirt purchases. However, the design that we liked did not have our size. 😔
A couple of things that we thought could be improved though, was to have “take picture here” signs as well as better lightings. This will help in taking those instagram-worthy photos, which will also aid in the visitorship at TeddyVille Museum @ Batu Ferringhi. Nonetheless, it was an excellent museum where we spent more than an hour being educated in the local culture and taking loads and loads of photos. If you’re staying at DoubleTree Hilton Penang, definitely head over to TeddyVille Museum for a visit – you will not regret it!

Skipping Stones at Batu Ferringhi Beach
At about noon time, we headed over to the beach. As it was a week day afternoon, the beach opposite DoubleTree Hilton Penang was deserted. We got the opportunity to take some pretty nice photos at the beach. There are some beautiful grey “Elephant Rocks” by the beach. They gained this term because as the tide rises and part of the rocks get submerged, they do look like elephants moving across the waters. Also, in the distant, we could also imagine a few rocks forming a bear with a big tummy lying down. Can you see it too? Reminded us of our time in Halong Bay, picking out the various structures formed by the rock formations there.
We also got to throw skipping stones! One of our favourite “free” activities by the beach (but of course ensure that there are no swimmers in the ocean before you throw). All you have to do is to find flat stones – which you can usually find by the beach because the waves would sand down the rock surfaces and overtime, you’d get these flat stones, perfect for skipping stones. This time, we had skips of up to 5 times over the water! The only thing? The next day our biceps and deltoids felt a little sore 😅

DoubleTree Hilton Resort Penang Afternoon Tea
After we returned from our beach expedition, we returned to Axis Lounge and ordered our afternoon tea set at 2pm. You have to give the staff an hour’s heads up for the afternoon tea set. As high tea starts at 3pm, heads up at 2pm while we showered was just perfect. We then returned at 3pm where the afternoon tea set was ready…
The price of afternoon tea at DoubleTree Resort Hilton Penang was 68RM. There are canapes such as smoked duck cheese croissant, tuna puff, smoked salmon canape and apple puff. The puff had a fresh cream within while we found the macaron to be best of the lot with a nutty, sweet and savoury taste. Of course we accompanied our afternoon tea set with a game of scrabble…
It was nice leisurely evening where we retreated to our King Deluxe Room to chill with Connor’s Stout as we saw the sun set over the mountains…
