Prestige Hotel Penang was where we stayed for 4 nights during our recent travels to Penang. With the fourth night free via Citi Prestige Card, this worked out to $125SGD per night for a 5 stars hotel, inclusive of daily buffet breakfast. Using Citi Prestige at Prestige Hotel Penang…hm…🤔

About Prestige Hotel Penang
The site of Prestige Hotel Penang was originally a 19th century godown (or warehouse) used for the maritime trade in Penang. It has since been revamped to exude the facade of the colonial era while internally, renovated with the theme of “19th century Victorian” design. Around the hotel, you can see the theme repeated with the iconic black and white colours of the bygone era, represented at Prestige Hotel Penang. Besides the all-day dining options at the Glasshouse located at the ground floor of Prestige Hotel Penang, our favourite hangout area has got to be the rooftop infinity swimming pool.
Lastly, located in the heart of the banking district in George Town Penang, Prestige Hotel is a great location for all your explorations around George Town – even by foot if you’re in for a nice little walk about town.
As our grab ride pulled up at Prestige Hotel Penang, the doorman promptly approached our car, opened our door and welcomed us to the hotel. Likewise, the door to the reception was opened up by the doorman as we proceeded for our check-in. The check-in experience was smooth and we were informed of the breakfast hours from 630am to 1030am at the Glasshouse, right next to the reception. While we were at level 1, we also took some photos of the shops at the ground floor of Prestige Hotel Penang…
At the ground floor Prestige Hotel Penang, you’ll be able to the in-house restaurant known as Glasshouse. That’s where daily breakfast is served. Next to the lobby, you’ll find Cutter’s Lounge, an executive lounge for guests accorded with lounge privileges during your stay. There’s also a couple of cafes (San Francisco Coffee, Bei Gong Cha), an up-scale restaurant (Gen) as well as a convenient store if you want to grab some instant noodles or ice cream.
During check-in, we also received two coupons for welcome drinks at the Glasshouse next to the reception:
The welcome drinks menu at Prestige Hotel Penang is rather extensive and it includes
Carbonated
– Coke
– Diet Coke
– Sprite
Sparking
– Nutmeg
– Lemonade
– Mojito (non-alcoholic)
Healthy Drink (no idea what these drinks are)
– Immune Booster
– Ginger Zinger
House Wine and Beer
– House Red Wine
– House White Wine
– Tiger Beer
Coffee
– Americano
– Cafe Latte
– Cappuccino
– Cafe Mocha
Belgium Chocolate
– Hot Chocolate
– Iced Chocolate
Juices
– Orange
– Apple
– Watermelon
Tea
– Earl Grey
– Chamomile
– Moroccan Mint
We actually kept the coupons for use on our last day after we checked out and we had the white and red wines. The red wine was delicious – probably a merlot or blend with “tear drops” observed.

Deluxe Room Prestige Hotel Penang Review
As we entered the Deluxe Room of Prestige Hotel Penang, we were pleasantly surprised by the modern Victorian-chic design, accentuated with rose gold lines and Kate’s favourite sea foam green. The see-through bathroom also creates a sense of space that enhances the living experience, despite coming in at a size of only 30m². Instead of having a traditional wardrobe space, the room employs an open concept that integrates with the TV console, creating another sense of space and providing ample hangers for use by the guests.
The Deluxe Room of Prestige Hotel Penang has the usual frills of a 5-star hotel. Within, towels, toiletries, bathroom and coffee/tea amenities are provided. The bathroom amenities include luxurious Botanical body wash, shampoo and conditioner which leaves one cleansed, refreshed and smelling au-naturale. Although cable TV in the room has limited channels, there are scores of complimentary on-demand movies that you can choose from. During this stay at Prestige Hotel Penang, we watched several movies including King Richard, Soul, The Father and Murder Party among others.
While staying at Prestige Hotel Penang, you’ll also be able to enjoy in-room complimentary beverages that are replenished daily. This includes Coca-Cola, Grass Jelly, Lemon Tea, Fresh Milk (can be used with coffee as well) and the trending Tapping Tapir (Grapefruit & Chamomile). Even when we were out and missed housing-keeping for the day, we were able to call the reception on the refills each day. There’s also a little selection of “old school” candies including Haw Flakes, Hacks and Lemon tablets (the iconic plum tasting sweets wrapped in gold wrappers).
There’s also complimentary ice bucket that you can order via room service. With the ice and complimentary drinks provided, we were able to concoct our own drinks while chilling out by the pool 😄
Within the room, there is a door that is concealed and camouflages perfectly with the wall paper of tropical plants. Within, the “hidden” toilet can be found. Although it’s concealed, there is pretty good ventilation and the “luscious” tropical wall paper makes it so serene inside 🤓
From our room, we were also able to see Spectrum of the Seas making their port of call in Penang. During these days, George Town would be a little more crowded but if you’ve plan your itinerary well, you can visit areas away from the port which would be less frequented by cruise ship passengers. Lastly, the bed and pillows were simply comfortable – bringing us to dreamland with ease each night.

Prestige Hotel Penang Roof Top Infinity Pool Review
The rooftop infinity swimming pool is one of the highlights of staying at Prestige Hotel Penang. From here, you’ll be able to enjoy sea views across to Butterworth at peninsula Malaysia. In the evenings, the clouds turn to a beautiful hue during sunsets. At the swimming pool, there is a deck within the water that can be used for our favourite pool-side activity – beach whaling!
Recently, by the pool deck, the Prestige Hotel has also started a small bar service by the pool, offering beers and house wines to guests from 5 to 8pm daily. There was actually no pricing available as the menu is not out. However, we did order a bottle of Heineken (poured into a beer glass) at 22RM. The bar is housed at the gazebo by the pool…
As we don’t swim as much, the roof top infinity swimming pool at Prestige Hotel Penang provided us with a great venue to just chill, “wine down” and rejuvenate for the next day…
Also at level 4, we took a quick look at the gym. Towels and water are included for guests who gym here…
Prestige Hotel Penang Breakfast Buffet Review
The breakfast buffet spread at Prestige Hotel Penang is an event by itself. Here, you can choose from the buffet spread from Glasshouse or order from the ala carte buffet choices that will be served at your table (or, you can do both!😝):
After being seated, we usually put in our order of latte (which would be brought to our table) and proceed to the buffet spread. Here’s the ala carte options that can be ordered…
Somehow, we enjoyed the Japanese Udon quite a bit. The soup was clear and not too heavy while the udon was delectable. We overheard on the second day that the “udon machine was down”, which may suggest that the udon is made in-house? Though not likely, the Japanese Udon still tasted great nonetheless. Of course, our favourite was the Truffled Eggs Benedict. Though not as “truffly” as imagined, the eggs benedict were perfectly prepared with the yolk flowing for the muffin to absorb prior to our next bite – yummy!
The buffet breakfast spread at Prestige Hotel Penang is rather extensive covering both Western, Asian and Malaysian cuisines. We thoroughly enjoyed the breakfasts each morning, alternating between the ala carte and buffet choices but always squeezing in some fruits and salads to keep things “healthy” 😅 These were some of the breakfast that we had over the 4 nights at Prestige Hotel Penang…
Most of the items offered from breakfast at Prestige Hotel Penang was pretty good. There’s also warm soybean milk which we would add to our espresso to create our own soy latte. 😄 For our top choices, we’d go with the Japanese Udon, Eggs Benedict, Hash browns, You Tiao and the Malaysian cuisine on rotation (i.e. bee hoon, kway teow and curry chicken). If you have tried the breakfast buffet at Prestige Hotel Penang, let us know what you think in the comments section below.

Prestige Hotel Penang Afternoon Tea Review
The afternoon tea at Prestige Hotel Penang costs 78RM for 2 pax ($23 SGD). We particular loved the presentation of the entire afternoon tea set with cups, teapot and plates on the tiered presentation – gold line cups with matching green colours. However, the good parts of the afternoon tea stops there. The arrangements of the items were a little weird. Usually, the savoury items would be at the bottom of the tiers while desserts would be at the top. However, in this case, there was a mix. Also, in the taste department, there was nothing to shout about. The scones were not warmed up and the cream was not particular light nor fluffy. The only glimmer of light was probably the chocolate ball which was richy and chocolatey but still a little dry. Overall, if you’re looking for a great tasting afternoon tea, Prestige Hotel Penang would not be the place to head to.

Overall, we had a wonderful stay at Prestige Hotel Penang. Although there was slight snag in the rather low standard of afternoon tea, the entire stay was filled with surprises such as the beautifully appointed Deluxe Room, excellent breakfast buffet and ala carte options as well as the iconic roof top swimming pool at Prestige Hotel Penang. On a lesser but nonetheless important note for tourists, the location of the hotel allow travellers explore George Town by foot due to its excellent location.
