On day 4 of our 5D4N cruise to nowhere aboard Quantum of the Seas, we decided to take it down a notch and chill. We have afterall, finished watching all 4 of the headliner shows (which you can only book once using the Royal App) and we had pretty much a free day ahead! As with the previous mornings, we started bright and early with our cuppa and freshly squeezed orange at La Pattiserie…
For those who need a reference for the cruise programme, we also hopped across to Guest Services to take photos of the Cruise Compass (Cruise to Nowhere) for those who are embarking in the days to come…
For breakfast, we decided to visit the Main Dining Room (MDR), having visited Windjammer and Solarium Bistro over the last 2 days.
As mentioned in previous posts, the Main Dining Rooms are located on the aft of the ship at Deck 3 and 4. The various restaurants such as Silk and American Icon, all serve the same menu. The only difference is the ambience. The cool thing about dining at MDR is that you’ll have table service and be able to get seats within windows views that overlooks the ocean. Unfortunately, we were not able to snag one of these seats this time 😩
We browsed through the menu and decided on the Classic Benedict with hashbrowns, corned beef and grilled tomatoes on the side. We also had a second round of freshly-squeezed orange and latte…
Of all the venues for breakfast, we enjoyed dining at Main Dining Room the most. Even though the food selection is pretty much the same as Windjammer, we are able to get table service with as much as we’d like served to us. The Classic Benedict was really well done. The yolk was oozing out as you cut into the egg. Hollandaise sauce complemented the toasted English muffin and sides nicely. Shiok!
More drinks ensued before we headed to Music Hall (deck 3) again for our next activity, the popular towel art folding class!
Quantum of the Seas Cruise to Nowhere Activities – Towel Art Folding Class
The Towel Art classes for all cruises are usually very popular. Everyone knows that you join a cruise to learn how to fold towels into cute animals like elephants, monkeys, turtles and more right? As with the napkin folding class, we really can’t remember how to fold them now as we were just trying to follow the instructor, one step at a time. Nonetheless, we thought that the turtle was quite decent. Wouldn’t you think?
The 3 animals above were done by the pros. The instructors were all state room attendants who belt these towel art out in the matter of seconds – literally! We sure did enjoy the class. Definitely a great class to attend, especially if you’re cruising as a family.
We then headed back to our balcony state room to chill and listen to waves again. This time, we laid the whole deck chair flat. Yes, the balcony is that spacious…
Quantum of the Seas Cruise to Nowhere Dining – Cafe at Two70
We decided to try out Cafe @ Two70 for lunch on our last full day of cruise. Cafe @ Two70 is the cafe next to Two70 theatre. Theoretically, during the day, the windows at Two70 would become transparent, allowing passengers to enjoy views out to the ocean. Unfortunately for us, there was rehearsals this time and we were not able to dine inside. Hence, we went straight for the food…
Cafe @ Two70 is known for its sandwiches and soups. We also found that premium coffee can be found here. Hence, besides La Pattiserie and Windjammer, Cafe @ Two70 is another venue to utilise your Refreshment Package! This time, we went for the Three Cheese Melt (Gruyere, white cheddar and blue cheese on rye) as well as the Cuban (ham , pork, swiss cheese, pickle, mustard). For drinks, we tried out the Caribbean Coconut (Ice Latte flavoured with coconut)…
After so many years of travelling and tasting all kinds of foods across the world, we’re still not quite used to blue cheese! 😅 Although we can take it, it’s almost like durian to people who don’t take durian. You know what I mean? Hence, we’d not recommend the Three Cheese Melt, unless you’re really ok with blue cheese. The Cuban on the other hand, reminded us of our trip to Cuba. Hand pressed to achieve the nice flat crisp texture on the outside. Yum!
After lunch, we dropped by La Pattiserie as we realised that we had yet to pick up our souvenir Coca Cola cups that came with the refreshment package…
Thankfully, they were still available! We were also told that you’d be able to collect the souvenir cups at bars across the ship. In the afternoon, we decided to chill at Solarium. Just enjoying the waves, dip in the hot tub and sip on some mocktails…
It was nice to just do nothing for the 3 hours. Soaking in the sun, relaxing by the pool, watching drama ensue due to the 5 pax limit in pools. So what happened was, while I was enjoying the cold pool in the middle of the Solarium, the guard came and requested another couple to leave. Apparently, they had been in the pool for more than 10 minutes while another couple was just standing outside the pool, waiting for them to leave. Their reply to the guard was that they were waiting for their drinks. The drama eventually ended when the drinks came and the couple waiting, got into the pool.
Yup, there is a limit of 5 pax per pool. This applies to hot tubs even though there are 2 hot tubs on each side. This is because the hot tubs are connected. Hence, only 5 pax per connected pool. During peak hours, there is a time limit of 10 minutes so that other cruisers can have a chance to dip as well. However, we found out that the best time to chill at the Solarium is in the mornings when everyone is at breakfast! No queues and no worries about overstaying. Try it on your next cruise to nowhere!
Quantum of the Seas Cruise to Nowhere Activity – Easy Listening with Accolade Duo
Over the last 2 days, we found that Victoria Stryzhak, the violinist that headlined during previous cruises to nowhere, had daily matinee shows at Boleros. This meant that you’d be able to enjoy 2 hours of great music without the need to book for headliner shows (which you could only watch once). On our last full day of cruise, we caught both sessions and were mesmerised by the skills of both the violinist and guitarist (Anna).
Quantum of the Seas Cruise to Nowhere Dining – Main Dining Room Dinner
For dinner, we headed back to Silk restaurant to try out the Main Dining Room. Here’s the Main Dining Room (MDR) menu this evening…
This time, we went with:
Starters: Escargots, Salmon Tartare, Asian style pork tacos
Mains: Garlic Tiger Shrimp, Navarattan Korma (Indian Vegetarian)
Dessert: Tiramisu
After enjoying Specialty Dining for the past couple of nights, it was hard to compare food against Main Dining Room. For instance, we felt that the escargots no longer tasted as garlicky (or rich) as we first tried it onboard the Mariner of the Seas. Comparing the tartare to that at Chops…
There is a marked difference in quality and the way it’s prepared. As for the Garlic Tiger Shrimps, it was actually quite delicious and we were happy with the firm bite of the shrimp as well as its accompanying herb butter. Lastly, the desserts was visibly lower in standard as compared to Jamie’s. Check out their rendition of Tiramisu…
We couldn’t let our last meal end on a low. Hence, we arranged for Jamie’s to be our final Specialty dining aboard our cruise to nowhere!
Quantum of the Seas Cruise to Nowhere Dining – Jamie’s Italian Restaurant by Jamie Oliver
By now, we had a dedicated server, Rikson, who took really good care of us throughout this trip. We also made an audacious request – a double patty of the JI burger! This, he was able to get for us!
We also had the Eggplant Parmigiana just to give it a try. Found it to be ok, only. But the double patty JI burger? Amazing! We should have probably asked for extra cheese as well. These, were washed down with a ice cold glass of coke, which made our last meal so so good. To round off the dinner, we had the amazing Tiramisu again, with its alternating layers of soaked cake and generous chocolate shavings. One cannot ask for more…
