Resorts World Langkawi was our first stop during our recent trip to the island of Langkawi. Although Resorts World Langkawi (RWL) is located to the south of Langkawi, away from the main stretch of Cenang beach, RWL does have its own advantages including affordability, proximity to island hopping boats as well as an amazing infinity pool!
First Impressions of Resorts World Langkawi (RWL)
The Grab ride from Langkawi Airport took about 20 minutes to reach Resorts World Langkawi. Upon arrival, we were intrigued by the lobby that has a view right out to sea. Next to the lobby, you’ll also be able to find the Zest Lounge, a venue next to the harbour where you can grab a sandwich along with a refreshing drink.
At the lobby, we also found out the activities and spa deals at Resorts World Langkawi…
During our check-in, we were also informed by the staff that breakfast would cost 40RM per person. BUT, if we reserved it a day earlier, we could have breakfast for 35RM. Since we were here for a couple of days, we decided to try out breakfast the next day – besides, it is afterall, 5RM cheaper, PER PERSON!
While checking-in, we also considered the 3 hours island hopping tour for 50RM per person. There are 2 trips a day at 9:30am and 2:30pm. The great thing about staying at Resorts World Langkawi is that the wharf is at the ground level and you can easily just stroll up to the jetty and board the boat for island hopping.
Resorts World Langkawi (RWL) Standard Sea View Room
This time, we booked the Standard Sea View Room at Resorts World Langkawi. The walk to our room took a while from the lobby because it was located at another block, away from the lobby. To reach our room, we had to pass 2 corridors and one open-air interconnecting passage which took about 5 minutes by foot.
Inside, we were pleasantly surprised by the condition of the room. It was clean and well-maintained. The bed was comfortable and the bedsheet was fresh. There was also a little lounging sofa at the corner of the room and of course the sea view of the islands and the boardwalk beneath at Resorts World Langkawi.
Amenities-wise, we were happy with the coffee/tea facilities and the shower amenities. The only thing that we didn’t like was the cable TV. There was limited channels and for the few English channels that we usually watch, the programmes were not clear. It felt that we had returned to the analog age and had to adjust the satellite to get good reception
Resorts World Langkawi (RWL) Facilities
Gym
Although Resorts World Langkawi seem to be a no-frills hotel. It does check all the boxes for facilities for a 4-stars hotel. The gym was located directly beneath our room. Just down 2 flight of stairs and we’re at the gym. The gym was relatively small but packed all your necessary gym equipment inside such as the treadmill, gym machine and free weights. There is also a water dispenser where we’d top up our water on the way over to the swimming pool.
Impiana Spa
Located nearby (also directly below our room) is the Impiana Spa at Resorts World Langkawi. For hotel guests, you’ll be able to enjoy either a 50% discount on the second pax (all hours) or a 30% off from 11am to 6pm. Both deals were not too bad and we booked a 1.5 hours massage for 312RM for 2 people (or about $95 SGD for 2 pax).
Inside Impiana Spa, we didn’t feel the “resort vibe” that you’d usually feel at a typical spa. However, we were given individual rooms which was great. The lighting could have been improved but it was still able to be dimmed when the massage started. Also, there was soothing music that accompanied the massage experience – which is an essential. However, things then took a turn in 2 very different directions for Tom and Kate.
For Kate, it was an excellent massage experience overall. She was able to drift in and out of her sleep as the masseuse addressed the various knots especially at the calf area.
However, for Tom, it was disastrous. Firstly, the masseuse came 15 minutes later, after Tom went out to ask why the masseuse had not yet arrived. Then, a male masseuse came in and it was obvious that he was having dinner due to the smell of food during the massage and throughout the massage, he was having a sweet, which created a sound while he moved it around his mouth, in an attempt to remove the smell of food. Lastly, the masseuse hands had callouses which made the massage experience quite negative. Although Tom had attempted to request for another masseuse, there was none. So, really a hit and miss at Impiana Spa.
Board Walk
One of the “under-rated” part of Resorts World Langkawi was the board walk that is built up right next to the hotel. We love it. You can take leisurely strolls along the boardwalk and enjoy views of the islands that surround Resorts World Langkawi. In the evenings (our favourite), you can take in views of the sunsets as the colours of the sky changes from bright to pale orange to pink and eventually purplish hues. Thank the Lord for His beautiful creations!
Infinity Pool
The favourite part of our stay at Resorts World Langkawi (RWL) has got to be the infinity pool. There are actually 2 swimming pools at Resorts World Langkawi. The swimming pool next to the Salt Shack Bistro (bar between both swimming pools), is mostly meant for kids. There’s also a small water feature where kids can have a great time.
Of course, our favourite swimming pool (and among all the activities at RWL) is definitely the infinity pool.
One of the reasons why we enjoy it is because of the views. Unlike most infinity swimming pool that sees an infinity of blue wide open ocean, this infinity pool at Resorts World Langkawi overlooks Pulau Lalang, Pulang Ular and Pulau Selang. This means that you get both ocean views as well as island views. In the air, you’ll sometimes get the eagles soaring above, another sight that we see at the infinity pool. Of course, the many boats that head in and out of the jetty and the nearby harbour are common sights at this infinity pool as well. Hence, we do find it interesting to revel in an infinity pool that does not technically look out to “infinity” but also provide some views of the surroundings as well.
Salt Shack Bistro/Bar
Next to the swimming pools is the Salt Shack Bistro, pool bar of the Resorts World Langkawi. It is also at the back of the bar where you’ll find the pool towels as well. You can order drinks from Salt Shack Bar and have them by the pool or have some nibbles at the tables by the pool side as well. In the evenings, they have a live band duo that performs oldies but goodies.
Next to the Salt Shack Bistro is the Games Room. Inside, you’ll be able to play chess, table fussball and also pool. However, to play pool, you’ll have to order a drink from Salt Shack Bar. You can probably order a coke? But we had a wine for 10RM each which was quite affordable. The condition of the table and cue sticks are quite good, so you’ll be able to enjoy a couple of games.
Breakfast Buffet at Seagull Restaurant Resorts World Langkawi (RWL)
Seagull Restaurant
As mentioned at the start of the post, our Standard Sea View Room didn’t come with breakfast. However, it costs 40RM per person for breakfast which you can pay at the door. OR, if you choose to buy the buffet breakfast the day before, it will cost 5RM less at 35RM instead – this was the price we paid for our breakfast the next day.
As for the buffet breakfast at Resorts World Langkawi (Seagull Restaurant), it does have a good variety. You have cereals for the kids, eggs and sausages for the Western cuisine lovers as well as Malaysian food such as prata and sambal sotong for the local food lovers. Our favourite was probably the prata because its prepared fresh on the spot. The only thing which we thought could be better for the prata, was probably not to prepare too many in advance as the moisture does affect the crispiness of the prata. Covering it also hastens the moistening of the prata. Coffee was not too bad as well.
Island Hopping Day Trip from Resorts World Langkawi (RWL)
The 3 hours island hopping day trip from Resorts World Langkawi costs 50RM and this time, we took the 2:30pm boat ride and came back at about 5:30pm. We visited a few stops including the Dayang Bunting Marble Geoforest Park Freshwater Lake, Pulau Beras Basah, Pregnant Maiden island (enroute) as well as the eagle feeding jetty to see eagles scooping up chicken skin from the water.

Resorts World Langkawi is actually a gem of a find in Langkawi island. Accommodations are clean and well maintained while the premise comes with a cool board walk and easy access to the jetty for island hopping. Lastly, the rooms are rather affordable, making Resorts World Langkawi, our likely venue to revisit again when we return to Langkawi!
