It has been a while since our last Singapore Airlines flight. The last SQ flight was from Singapore to London on the A380 SQ First Class Suites in 2019. From there we transited to Greece via another Star Alliance airlines, Aegean. Hence, it was exciting to check out the offerings of Singapore Airlines for our flight from Singapore to Hanoi on SQ194 and SQ191…
SQ 194 from Singapore to Hanoi on Airbus A350
As we booked our flight more than 6 months ago, we were thankful to have snagged a return flight on Singapore Airlines Economy Class from Singapore to Hanoi for $250SGD, inclusive of taxes. Just before our flight, we found the flight to have risen to as high as $750SGD for a return flight with the average hovering around $450SGD. Hence, the price that we got the tickets at were a pretty good deal.
Prior to your flight, you are also able to check out the in-flight menu by visiting the SQ Inflight Menu website.
This website is an excellent resource for Singapore Airlines (SQ) flights as you’ll be able to find out what are the food and beverage offerings during your particular flight. We also found out that Singapore Sling is available even for economy flights!
The Airbus A350 economy class has a 3-3-3 seat arrangement. We found the seats in SQ economy class to be very comfortable and there’s a good distance between us and the seat in front of us. This of course means that there is a better entertainment experience when using KrisWorld In-Flight Entertainment…
It has been a while since our last flight on SQ economy and it is nice to find that the KrisWorld in-flight entertainment has been upgraded to a touch screen interface. The design is sleek and the interface is very user-friendly. We could pretty much navigate the movies, TV series, music and in-flight information rather easily. There were 2 downsides that we noticed though
Firstly, we found that the movies were not as “new” as we preferred. Prior to COVID, we recall that movies that were in the cinemas would be on the SQ flight between one to two months after screening. Hence, we were looking forward to movies such as Black Adam. Nonetheless, there were still relatively new movies that we watched during this flight, such as Minions – The Rise of Gru as well as Downton Abbey: A New Era.
Secondly, as Krisflyer members, we were looking forward to complimentary Wifi chat…
However, we did not know that after connecting to the wifi, we had to head to the link http://www.singaporeair-krisworld.com/ before being to utilise the “light chat” function. We’d be sure to try this during our next flight with SQ.
For our flight on SQ 194 from Singapore to Hanoi, we were able to enjoy the beef stew and curry chicken. Udders ice cream was also served as part of dessert. For beverages, we were able to enjoy coke, beer and red wine.
For the food experience, we were very encouraged by SQ’s drive towards sustainability by using boxes to hold the food and having wooden utensils. Flying with SQ feels like we’ve done our small part to reduce carbon footprint – of course we know that flying has a really high carbon footprint. But if you have to, airlines that have green initiatives are good options. Of course, the food itself tastes great. As always, there’s no qualms about food quality even in the economy class. This, we were satisfied. Lastly, the desserts of Udders ice cream as well as alcoholic beverages made the meal a complete one. Shiok.
However, with the adoption of the green initiatives, we found that the food portion had become smaller. This was the same feedback that we got from our friends on similar SQ flights. Perhaps SQ could consider using a bigger food boxes?
SQ 191 from Hanoi to Singapore on Airbus A350
For our return flight, we took the afternoon SQ 191 flight from Hanoi to Singapore out of Noi Bai International Airport. Do note that the international and domestic terminals are about 1km apart. Technically, you could walk, bits along the expressway but realistically it is a distance away. This time, we made the boo-boo of keying the wrong terminal into Grab ride hailing app. We arrived at the domestic terminal and was not able to find our flight out. Then, we realised that we were at the wrong airport. We found out that there is actually a shuttle bus that plies between the international and domestic terminals at Hanoi. However, as we did not know the timings that the buses runs between the terminals. So, we hopped on another grab ($2SGD) from the domestic terminal to the international terminal at Hanoi International Airport.
As the return flight from Hanoi to Singapore was also on the Airbus A350, the seat configuration of 3-3-3 was the same…
The offerings are therefore similar and service was excellent as well. For our KrisWorld entertainment during this return flight, we chose Avatar as we watched Avatar 2 during our stay in Hanoi…
For food, we went for the beef goulash as well as the Roasted Chicken Rice…
We actually enjoyed both the beef goulash as well as the roasted chicken rice. In particular, we were surprised that the roasted chicken rice remained so fragrant especially at this altitude. We also got to try out the Singapore Sling cocktail during this flight. Pretty decent. If you have tried the SilverKris Sling, let us know in the comments section below and whether they are available on SQ economy flights. However, the same bug bear remains. There’s only 3 pieces of chicken in the chicken rice. Helps with our diet but still…
