Roaming Man Portable Wifi Review: Staying Connected in Greece (and the Islands!)

Having tried Roaming Man in Brisbane and Roaming Man in South Korea, we had the confidence that it would be a breeze to travel with the Roaming Man portable wifi device again. However, this time, we’re heading to Greece. Even to the islands of Santorini, Naxos and Paros. Would it perform as well as in the major cities?

Let’s find out in this post!

If you have read our previous posts, you would have known that using Roaming Man is as simple as switching on the device when you arrive at your destination.

Literally!

In our case, when we arrived at Athens International Airport, all we had to do was just to press and hold the power button. Within a couple of seconds, we were updating our family and friends that we have arrived in Greece!

How about within the city itself? Afterall, Athens is also known as the “cradle of Western civilisation” – meaning ancient. Did the mobile networks and coverage catch up with the times?

We’re happy to report that it did! 🙂

Whether we were travelling to the Ancient Agora (Greek public space), visiting the Temple of Olympian Zeus or the most famous landmark of Greece – Acropolis, we had near perfect data coverage. Near perfect because there were a couple of times that we experienced “outage” – but nothing a quick reset couldn’t do…

Now that we know that Roaming Man works really well in Athens, we had to review its performance in the islands. Afterall, Greece attracts over 26 million visitors a year and many of whom will surely set foot on Santorini & co. For this trip, we visited Santorini, Naxos and Paros. Lesser known islands will put Roaming Man to the test…

Ah…the Greek islands. At that, we think of blue-topped churches amidst white washed cave houses, sandy beaches/clear blue waters and breathtaking sunsets. All of which were enjoyed with excellent mobile data access…

It was really convenient to be connected in Santorini as we were doing searches, finding restaurants and landmarks on the island. Roaming Man also allowed us to find out the path that led us from Firostefani to Imerovigli – where we were also able to find affordable restaurants to chill and enjoy the unbelievable sunset of Santorini!

As we took the ferry from Santorini to Naxos and Paros, we were a little concerned about how Roaming Man would function. Soon, we realised that our worry was unfounded. Besides a little hiccup from time to time (similar to Athens), smooth connection and high speed was experienced for majority of the time. This allowed us to enjoy the attractions of Naxos and Paros while sharing these experiences enroute…

Thanks to the great folks at Roaming Man, we were able to stay connected throughout our trip – even at some instances as our ferry sailed past the islands from Santorini to Athens. That’s how good connections were!

If you’re travelling to Greece and intend to stay connected, we’d say that Roaming Man is a bearie bearie good option! 😛
