One of the highlight of this trip to Da Nang is our afternoon tea at Intercontinental Danang Resort. In fact, we had planned for the visit here, 2 months prior to our flight from Singapore to Da Nang. This was to make sure that we would be able to enter the premise. We have heard from friends that you would not even be able to enter the premise of Intercontinental Danang if you do not have a reservation at any of the restaurants. Hence, we decided to “splurge” for this visit by booking a Royal Afternoon Tea at Intercontinental Danang’s Citron Restaurant. Thereafter, we were given a letter to confirm our reservation. As the reservation was for the daily high tea which starts at 3pm, you’d also be able to enter earlier to check out the premise. Cool!
To start off our day, we took a long walk along Man Thai Beach. This time, we headed north…
As we walked along, we saw a local seafood market. Probably where the fishermen we saw yesterday, brought their freshest catch to sell. There were so many types of seafood on offer, ranging from crabs to clams and shell fish.
Originally, we wanted to check out the Spa at Grand Gold Hotel but it was closed due to the festive season. Nonetheless, we saw that the rooftop pool and bar was not too bad as well. After a quick rest back at the hotel, we left at 1245 and took a Grab over to Intercontinental Da Nang Resort! The ride took about 15 mins and cost 178K VND ($11 SGD)
InterContinental Danang Sun Peninsula Resort Review
We arrived at Intercontinental Danang at about 1pm. As expected, the guards checked our reservation before allowing our Grab car to enter the lobby of the hotel. After we were dropped off, that’s where all the “ohs and oohs” started. Besides Hilton Busan, we would say that InterContinental Danang Sun Peninsula Resort is one of the most instagrammable hotel that there is…
After walking past the main lobby of the hotel, we were greeted by the splendid view of the sea and cliffs, where InterContinental Danang is situated. Yup, only guests of the hotel can have access to these areas. One of the cool thing about InterContinental Danang Resort is that there’s a cable car within its premise! Due to its location high up on a cliff, the cable car brings guests to various levels of the hotel, namely; Heaven, Sky, Earth and Sea levels…
Sea Level InterContinental Danang Resort
The Sea level is where guests would head to for a day out at the beach, chill by the pool or simply lounge at the Long Bar or Barefoot Restaurant…
For a little pampering, guests can also head for the Pedi-Manicure Studio or InterContinental Danang’s award winning spa – HARNN Heritage Spa…
Of course, the “instagram-famous” shot is taken from the beach with the private villas of InterContinental Danang, in the background…
At the Sea Level, we also found a comfortable swing chair, shaped like a boat, right next to the spa…
If you need a shower, you can also head to the rest room next to Long Bar (accessed from the path at the back of the bar). Towels are provided. After chilling by the swinging chairs, we also checked out the other levels of the hotel…
Earth Level InterContinental Danang Resort
The Earth level is dedicated to La Maison 1888 – Intercontinental Danang’s restaurant that features Michelin-starred chef, Chef Pierre Gagnaire. A 4-course lunch here will set you aside 2M VND ($120SGD) while a 4-course dinner will be in the region of 4.5M ($275SGD). Of course, at this price range, you’ll be pampered with ingredients such as lobsters, foie gras, black cod, wagyu beef as well as the The Pierre Gagnaire Grand Dessert. Each dish is a visual and gastronomical delight, with the waiter giving you an introduction to the ingredients and inspiration for each dish…
Sky Level InterContinental Danang Resort
Sky Level is where you can get all your shopping done. There’s a souvenir shop (B Tea) and shops for wallets, bags and decorative furnishing (Ipa Nima and My Way Deco). At this level, we also a monkey reaching into the thrash bin, “foraging” for food…
Heaven Level InterContinental Danang Resort
The Heaven Level is where the lobby is and also where another souvenir shop (Beecrafty) is located. We also found an entrance to a place called M Rouge. At first, we thought that it could be another bar within the hotel’s premise. Turns out, it is a karaoke lounge with a whimsical decoration!
At the Heaven Level, there’s also more lounge areas, a games room as well as a pool table! There, we indulged in a couple of games before heading to Citron Restaurant for our afternoon tea at InterContinental Danang. If you’re interested in a work-out, instead of riding the cable car between levels, you can use the stairs that connects all the levels. Offers a nice little stroll if you’re heading down from Heaven to Sea Level.
Soon, it was time for our afternoon tea at Citron Restaurant, InterContinental Danang Resort!
Afternoon Tea at Citron Restaurant InterContinental Danang Resort: The Complete Review!
Citron restaurant is the in-house restaurant of InterContinental Danang. It is also here that breakfast, afternoon tea as well as its Sunday champagne brunch is served. Of course, we were here for its famous Non La (Vietnam’s iconic conical hats) outdoor seats. From here, you’ll be able to take in the views that InterContinental Danang offers, in the privacy of your very own booth…
For the Royal Afternoon Tea at Citron, it occurs daily from 3pm to 5pm (3:30pm to 5pm on Sundays due to the Sunday Brunch) and there are 3 menu available…
Standard High Tea Package: VND 1,199,000++ per person, inclusive of tea and coffee (inside table)
Royal Afternoon Tea with Cocktail: VND 1,599,000++ per person (Non La table)
Royal Afternoon Tea with Taittinger Champagne Brut: VND 1,999,000++ per person (Non La table)
To be assured of the Non La seats, we decided to go with the Royal Afternoon Tea with Cocktail so that we can try out some of the cocktails available. Since we had a blast with Dom and Krug during our SQ First Class Suites experience, we decided to give it a miss this time round.
Once we entered Citron, we informed the hostess of our reservation and were promptly led to our Non La booth, where we were greeted by the breath taking views…
Once seated, we were given the Citron afternoon tea menu and we went with our first order of Heavenly Fire – Citron’s signature cocktail…
Shortly after our orders of Heavenly Fire cocktail and Mojito, our afternoon tea set came…
The presentation was beautiful as we worked from the bottom tier to the top tier. At first, we thought that at the price of VND 1,599,000++ per person ($115SGD), the items would be refillable. However, to dispel all doubts, the items at Citron’s afternoon high tea ARE NOT REFILLABLE. Moreover, the items didn’t taste that spectacular as well. This was unlike the afternoon tea experience at Fullerton Bay Hotel’s The Landing Point, where all items were refillable – including the boston lobster cornet. There were none of these “atas” (premium) items on the afternoon tea menu here at Citron InterContinental Danang. These were what were on the afternoon tea menu at Citron…
Afternoon Tea Menu at Citron Restaurant – InterContinental Danang Sun Peninsula Resort
– Strawberry Panna Cotta
– Fruit Tart
– Mango Cheese Cake
– Opera
– Raspberry Eclair
– Pistachio Macaroon
– Tuna Sandwich
– Smoked Salmon with Cream Cheese in Mini Choux
– Caprese Tartlets
– Egg Sandwich
– Plain and Green Tea Scones
– Mascarpone Cream and Jam
Tea
– Classic English Breakfast, Earl Grey, Jasmine Peppermint, Chamomile, Darjeeling, Green Tea
Coffee
– Espresso, Americano, Cappuccino, Cafe Latte
Vietnamese Coffee
– Cafe Den Da Saigon, Cafe Sua Da Saigon, Hot Black Coffee, Hot Black Coffee with Condensed Milk, Hot Chocolate
For cocktails, there were a total of 4 cocktails available. We’ve tried all 4 and we strongly recommend Heavenly Fire and Mojito. Heavenly Fire has a little spice to it but has a refreshing tinge of passion fruit. Mojito on the other hand, had all the fresh peppermints mixed into it. The other 2 cocktails were rather forgettable…
To be honest, we think that the price of the afternoon tea at Citron, was rather expensive. We were really only paying for the views. With no premium items on the afternoon tea set (egg and tuna sandwich -_-“), heading to Citron only for the afternoon tea, was a no-brainer. With the unlimited cocktails though, we thought it was still rather decent. Service was prompt. After we noticed a plastic wrapper on one of the items, we got a “complimentary” refill of the bottom tier.
Still, we managed to catch up with each other. Take in the fresh air and awesome views. With no other Non La seats occupied towards the end of the afternoon tea, it gave us a serene and private time of conversations.
Concluding Thoughts on Afternoon High Tea at Citron Danang
To conclude on the entire experience, it was definitely “WOW” to have checked out the premise of the entire hotel. The views were majestic. Breath-taking – even after the high expectations and anticipation. However, would we pay the same price for another visit to the afternoon tea at Citron InterContinental Danang?
Nope.
The next time we’re there, we’d probably make a reservation at the Long Bar. Have a cocktail or two and take in the views at one of the many lounge seats available at the Heaven level. We left at 5pm. As we couldn’t get a Grab ride from the hotel lobby, we approached the concierge where a cab came promptly. The ride back to our hotel was 205K VND ($12.5 SGD).
For the evening, we wanted to try the spa at Grand Gold Hotel. Unfortunately, it was closed due to the festive season. We walked another 20 minutes south, to Gold Spa (a Korean spa) but we were “rejected” as the owner said that they were “fully booked”. There was a sign outside that said “No to Chinese Requests” – that probably explained why. Nonetheless, we found a quaint little coffee place called De L’Armor, complete with fairy lights and sea views…
This time, we ordered the coconut coffee and mango smoothie (total of 94K VND – $5.5 SGD) with a 20% surcharge due to the Lunar New Year. Both drinks tasted great. A perfect venue at the second level to chill and listen to the waves in the evenings.
After yet another relaxing day, we returned back to our hotel at 7:30pm and caught the premier of Time Freak…
We hope you have enjoyed our comprehensive review of the premise of InterContinental Danang as well as the review of the Afternoon Tea at Citron InterContinental Danang Sun Peninsula Resort!
